Chapter 304 - Chapter 80: Burning

Chris Processing Plant is an electronics assembly factory located in the Watson District.

In Night City, this factory is by no means small in scale, with close to over two hundred workers employed.

The electronics it sells are not only for local sales, but also due to the extremely low business taxes and labor costs in Night City, various low-priced electronics of decent quality are sold to North and South California and other nearby Independent States.

Thanks to Night City's unique business conditions, the processing plant is almost never short of orders, and even has its own independent brand.

They purchase low-priced electronic components from some companies to assemble low-priced electronics like phones, iPads, and electronic screens, primarily making money from the low-end market where big companies find it difficult to descend.

However, anyone knowledgeable about this processing plant knows.

The reason this plant can sell its products at such low prices and still reliably profit, even to the extent of making the boss wealthy, is absolutely not due to technology or sales prowess.

Behind the low-cost products, hidden, are the blood and tears of countless child laborers sold into this place.

Chris Processing Plant 'employs' a batch of children aged between 12-15 through various channels almost every year.

Some of these children come from various gangs, while others come from their parents.

As long as they pass the physical examination, these children are bought for about 10,000 Euros and placed on the assembly line as workers.

These children are forced to work, almost under prison-like management, getting up at seven in the morning, starting work at eight, finishing at nine in the evening, with only one day off per year.

As for wage compensation? There isn't any.

Every child will have zero income until they turn eighteen, as most of their compensation is forcibly taken by the factory as tuition for learning 'skills.'

The remaining portion is handed over to the 'supervisor' who brought them here.

And when they turn eighteen, they have to sign a lifetime work contract, where their monthly salary for the first ten years is less than a hundred Euros, increasing gradually afterward.

But unless they're very lucky and get recognized to enter management, otherwise, most employees will 'accidentally' leave before their salary increases, either suddenly losing the ability to work or being fired for an incident and demanded compensation.

Some unfortunate ones even die in accidents right at the factory.

Want to leave? Then you've got to accept a huge breach of contract fee; the factory will forcibly require you to pay at least 50,000 Euros to leave.

Where would this 50,000 Euros come from? Naturally, some 'kind' gang, like the Vortex Gang in the Watson District, will offer you a loan which you must repay monthly.

If you can't repay the debt in the end, you can go work at the Vortex Gang's food processing plant or be used as an 'experimental subject' for their body modifications to pay off the debt with your body.

This is the truth behind Chris Processing Plant's affordable products, but in Night City, nobody cares about this.

Night City is pleased they've solved the residents' employment problems, and their employment contract amount seems to raise the average wage.

Big companies will dump some low-end products to the processing plant, leveraging their cheap production contracts for profit.

The gangs occupying Night City furthermore guarantee the plant's number of employees.

This processing plant, which operates year-round, has, so far, thrived on the soil of Night City by feeding on child labor's blood and tears for nearly twenty years.

Yet all this cycle is destined to end today.

At this moment, the sky merely dims gradually; at dusk, various old factories in the Watson District are still operating at full force, discharging various exhaust fumes into the air, that choking smoky stench symbolizing the unique taste of the Watson District.

Their previous vehicle has already been sent to the Old Captain for repainting and to alter its certification at City Hall, so it can return as a new car to the garage once it has a new look.

So this time, Mercer and the group drove here in V's own purchased Hera EC-D Skyroof Sedan, a four-seater, equipped with bulletproof body and windows, to Watson District.

Upon reaching the factory's surroundings, everyone did not rush into action but instead looked towards Qiwei in unison.

This time, all actions will be directed by Qiwei, carried out by Qiwei, while everyone else is here to act as her bodyguard.

V and Rebecca do not know much about Qiwei's past, only having heard bits and pieces that she is a poor soul rescued by Mercer from the Sex Doll Shop.

As for why they're coming to the factory, why Qiwei wants revenge on this factory, they don't know the reasons, yet they've followed here without hesitation.

Qiwei took a deep breath and calmly said: "My targets for revenge are the foreman, manager, and the boss of this factory.

I know the work processes and factory structure inside, so later you'll follow me through the senior employee passage at the back.

We don't need to stage a massacre; we just need to quietly go in, deal with the manager first, and then use his name to gather foremen and management for a meeting.

Then... I want to set this place ablaze, as for the boss, I'm not sure if he's here today, if he isn't, I'll stay here and hack his brain personally when he comes to inspect upon getting the news."
