Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Prelude to the Birth of Dr. Lizard

Hawk and Gwen were engaged in a Q&A.

The tone was natural.

Relaxed demeanor.

As they spoke, they walked side by side towards the rest corridor.

Behind them...

Mary Jane's mouth was as wide open as it could be.

What on earth did I miss this summer?

Peter also felt a bit dazed at the moment.

He felt like he understood something, but at the same time felt like he understood nothing.

However, Harry, who was beside him, looked at Mary Jane and tried to greet her.

Mary Jane was Peter's neighbor before he went to the United Kingdom, and sometimes when Harry went to find Peter, Mary Jane was also there.

So Harry knew Mary Jane as well.

Harry thought for a moment and then patted Mary Jane on the shoulder.

"Hey, Mary, long time no see."

"...Hey, Harry."

Mary Jane turned her head, glanced at Harry, who had appeared, and greeted him lightly, then swiftly turned to look at Peter and said: "Peter, did you know about this?"

Harry was stunned.

Wait a minute, this reaction isn't right.

Is this the reaction one should have upon seeing an old friend?

It's a bit too indifferent, isn't it?

Peter was also stunned.

He met Mary Jane's sparkling gaze and was dumbfounded.

"What?"

"Gwen and Hawk."

Mary Jane tried her best to suppress the gossip in her tone, and restrained her impulse to scream, urgently saying to Peter: "Aren't you Hawk's only friend at school? You should know. When did it happen?"

Peter was completely baffled.

"Since when did I become Hawk's only..."

"Forget it, I'm too lazy to ask you."

Seeing Peter's unsatisfactory response, Mary Jane's curiosity completely overruled her reason. After saying this, she lifted her feet and hurried over to Gwen, who was already walking ahead.

She planned to hear the gossip up close.

But just at that moment.

Mary Jane suddenly stopped, seemed to think of something, and turned her head to see Harry, who also looked stunned and felt like he might have become invisible.

In the next instant.

"Ah!"

Upon seeing clearly, Mary Jane screamed, rushed over to Harry, and hugged him tightly: "Harry, Harry, when did you come back?"

Harry was delighted.

Just as he was smiling and preparing to chat as Mary Jane released him, Mary Jane hugged him again: "I have something to do now, I won't chat with you, see you later."

It was obvious that at that moment, the return of a good friend from the United Kingdom couldn't outweigh the importance of Mary wanting to dig into her friend's gossip with the school's top cold guy.

Thus, after saying that, Mary Jane turned once again, looked at Gwen, who was already close to the lounge corridor, and quickly trotted to catch up.

Mary certainly wouldn't chase Hawk to ask about gossip.

So...

For the entire morning, Mary chased after Gwen with a pleading face.

The central idea was one.

"Please, just a little more, a little more detail, I beg you, Gwen."

"..."

Because today's the first day of the new school year, it was slightly relaxed, and no classes were scheduled today.

Everyone was busy with their own things, collecting their schedules, or seeking advice from their tutors for the last semester.

Thus, Gwen was thoroughly pestered by Mary all morning.

Finally.

On their way to the cafeteria, Gwen couldn't help looking at Mary, who was beside her and still pitifully hoping to hear more about her and Hawk's gossip.

Gwen sighed.

"Is it weird for me to be with Hawk?"

"Uh-huh."

"Where's the weird part? From the ninth grade, we were desk mates in physics class, and we have the same tutor."

"Come on, Gwen, it's Hawk we're talking about."

"So what?"

"Do you really not know what everyone says about Hawk?"

"What?"

Now it was Gwen's turn to be curious.

Mary glanced around, and whispered: "Everyone says Hawk is either a total iron-hearted straight guy or he's bent."

Gwen rolled her eyes: "No way."

She suddenly thought of Hawk standing in the water wearing only shorts at the waterfall in Maryland.

Bent?

Hawk is straight as an arrow.

Like a baton.

No, wait.

What am I thinking?

Gwen shook her head, subconsciously shaking off the baton image from her mind, then turned to Mary with a serious look and said: "Hawk isn't bent."

Mary was stunned, then seemed to think of something, and winked at Gwen.

Her smile became somewhat ambiguous.

"Have you tried?"

"..."

Gwen was momentarily at a loss, then looked at the ambiguous smile on Mary's face and took a deep breath.

The next moment.

She turned and walked away without saying a word.

Being a dance major is not for nothing.

Dirty-minded.

Too dirty-minded.

Mary quickly chased after Gwen, who had walked away without a word.

"Sorry, Gwen, forgive me."

"..."

When Hawk arrived at the cafeteria, Mary was still trying to extract information from Gwen.

But Gwen feigned deafness.

Seeing that Gwen was now immune to her pleas, Mary sighed and then saw Harry, who had come to the restaurant led by Peter, and her eyes brightened up instantly. She said to Gwen beside her: "If you won't tell, I'll find out from Peter."

As she spoke, Mary Jane had already stood up, and without waiting for Gwen to react, she carried her tray and ran off to find Peter and Harry.

By the time Hawk sat down across from Gwen with his tray, Mary Jane had already left.

"Mary finished eating?"

"Clearly, she couldn't hear any gossip from me, so she ran to find Peter."

Gwen glanced at Mary, who had already sat down pulling Peter, and sighed helplessly.

Hawk was somewhat puzzled when he heard this: "What does this have to do with Peter?"

Gwen shrugged.

"Apparently, because last semester you and Peter spent time in the old gym, now everyone thinks Peter is your friend."

"...Alright."

Hawk chuckled involuntarily after hearing that, but he didn't bother to refute anything and grabbed his burger to eat.

Since Gwen had arrived at the cafeteria early, she had already finished eating by now.

With her arms resting on the table, Gwen watched Hawk eat his burger.

"By the way, did you call Dr. Connor to thank him?"

"Yes, I did."

Hawk nodded, swallowed his burger, and then remembered something to tell Gwen: "When I called, Dr. Connor said there seemed to be a major breakthrough in the experiment, and he sounded very happy."

Gwen blinked her eyes.

"Breakthrough?"

"Impossible."
