Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Home Insurance: "Alien Invasion Is an Exclusion Clause

The Chitauri have arrived.

The Chitauri have departed.

The mastermind behind this alien invasion, Loki, along with many Chitauri soldiers who couldn't evacuate, left New York City in ruins.

Good news.

Loki has been captured, and even the Chitauri soldiers left on Earth seem to have lost power, paralyzed on the spot due to losing contact with their base.

At the moment the space wormhole was entirely closed, the Chitauri soldiers still ravaging the skies above New York City suddenly lost power, and one by one, they dropped from the sky like dumplings.

Clearly.

This sudden alien invasion and Earth defense battle ultimately concludes with Earth's victory.

Bad news.

New York City sustained severe damage, particularly the five blocks surrounding Stark Tower which suffered the most.

After all, that was the main battlefield, nearly destroyed.

Other areas of Manhattan sustained relatively minor damage, but compared to the main battlefield, yet still quite significant when compared to other parts of New York City.

Next comes the other districts of New York City.

But one area stood out.

"In Jackson Heights, Queens, one block was almost leveled by the Chitauri."

"What?"

On the Aerospace Carrier, reviewing the satellite images of New York City, Commander Maria Hill's voice, in the earphones of the first generation Avengers who were just thrilled by Iron Man's recovery, sounded: "Strangely, the whole of Queens was targeted by the Chitauri in a concentrated bombardment. Based on data stream reports, the Chitauri raging in Queens appeared furious, and gathered towards that direction."

Stationed at the main battlefield, the first generation Avengers exchanged looks as they listened to Maria Hill's words over the earphones.

Captain America was the first to speak.

"Why?"

"Unclear, agents are already on their way."

Maria Hill said, then changed her tone: "All Chitauri life signals have vanished, congratulations, Captain, we've won."

Upon hearing this.

The first generation Avengers collectively took a breath of relief, then looked at each other.

Afterward...

All their faces lit up with joyful expressions.

That evening.

Not only New York City's TV stations but nationwide and even worldwide, all television networks reported on the Chitauri invasion of Earth.

Undoubtedly.

The first generation Avengers, who fought actively in the main battlefield and were the primary force in the grand battle, were officially revealed.

Captain America, Steve Rogers.

Iron Man, Tony Stark.

Thor.

Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff.

Hulk, Bruce Banner.

Hawkeye, Clint Barton.

Reputable television stations extensively reported the details of this massive battle.

Less reputable stations aired gossip and wild stories about the Avengers.

Among them, the most popular was confirmed dead and resurrected, reappearing after years with unchanged appearance, Captain America, Steve Rogers.

After all, Captain America is a symbol of the United States, constantly attracting attention. Now, having staged a resurrection and comeback, his popularity soared sky-high.

For instance, right now.

Hawk was eating the relief meal handed out by church staff, while watching the historical program on Captain America playing on the nearby eighteenth-inch old television.

There's nothing else he could do.

The apartment building he lived in had turned into a pile of rubble, not only affecting him but the entire apartment residents as well. Strictly speaking, everyone in that neighborhood was left homeless.

Because their block was quarantined by a group of men in black suits and ties half an hour after the battle ended.

Some residents wanted to go back to see if they could rescue their assets from the ruins, but weren't allowed.

The answer given was federal quarantine, no entry allowed.

But fortunately, the agencies enforcing the quarantine considered their homelessness, and provided them with a rarely used hangar at LaGuardia Airport for temporary accommodation, while also contacting nearby churches to offer free food to help them through this difficult time.

But...

Just as Hawk was munching on bread and listening to stories about Captain America, nearby, sobbing sounds emerged.

Hawk snapped back to reality and turned his head to look.

Before him.

A man appearing around thirty-five years old, burly, was hugging his arms, burying his whole person between his legs, started crying softly, then quickly broke into loud sobs.

Curious survivors nearby couldn't help themselves.

"What's wrong with you."

"My house is gone."

"It's okay."

The survivor who assumed the crying man faced some major issue, upon hearing this, reassured: "We have insurance, don't worry."

That statement made matters worse, causing the crying man to cry even more intensely.

The survivor was bewildered.

"What now? Didn't you buy insurance?"

"No, I did."

"Then..."

"I just called the insurance company." The crying man sniffled, looking at the comforting survivor: "Told me alien invasions are excluded from coverage, not within their compensation scope."

The survivor's expression froze.

"What?"

"Exclusions?"

"Can't be."

"How's the insurance company not compensating?"

"No, I must call them."

"..."

Other survivors overhearing the conversation between the man and survivor, suddenly felt restless and hastily sought out phones to call their own home insurance companies.

About a minute later, more sobbing began.

The third voice.

The fourth voice.

In the blink of an eye, the entire hangar was filled with the sounds of crying soon to become homeless people.

Nearly surrounded by the sobbing people, Hawk, thinking about the apartment and lack of insurance payout, felt a sourness in his nose.

But soon he snapped out of it.

Hold on.

His apartment was a welfare apartment provided by the Federation, which was due to be taken back upon reaching eighteen next year.

This was why Hawk scrimped and saved to gather thirty thousand dollars.

Because upon turning eighteen, he would be expelled from the welfare apartment under the guise of 'independence' by the Federation.

After all, already considered an adult under New York State law at eighteen, naturally losing the benefits of an underage orphan.

What?

You can't afford housing?

Sorry, it's not our concern, with so many homeless under the bridge or in the sewers of New York City, you might want to ask if they'd mind sharing space.

So...

I didn't even own a house, the insurance not covering doesn't affect me at all.

Hawk regained his composure, observing the survivors sobbing with fierce expressions, seemed to think of something, quietly got up, and made his way outside the hangar.

He feared a gunfight erupting here soon.
