Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: The Old Bull’s Titan Nova

Among these four Gold Saints, whose finisher packs the strongest punch?

At least strong enough to face Saga's Galaxian Explosion head-on.

Damian's eyes swept the headstones, rejecting three, and finally choosing one grave.

Telekinesis surged, and the gleaming golden headstone dropped from above, replacing the original white jade stone. It slotted into place before the grave.

Boom.

The white jade headstone shattered and was formally replaced by the golden one.

But no text appeared on the stone.

Looks like it's time to use that thing.

He moved his mind again.

Two gray spheres leapt from the offering table into his hands.

These palm-filling orbs were the gifts Aphrodite had once tucked into his chest and brought him.

They were red spider lily seeds.

Red spider lilies only grow in a few places in the Underworld and are very hard to find. They don't bloom on a schedule, and any blossom taken out of the Underworld will wither completely.

Only by finding hidden red spider lily seeds in the Underworld can they be brought out.

That required Aphrodite's plant-sensing ability, and Dickmask's ability to traverse the Underworld.

You could say he'd mobilized two Gold Saints for these two seeds.

After so much trouble, the red spider lilies could finally be put to use.

He stepped forward and buried one seed in the soil before the golden headstone's grave.

Before long—

At a speed visible to the naked eye, a tender sprout pushed up from the earth. It shot up quickly and finally bloomed—a ghostly purple flower.

The blossom was lovely, even shedding a faint, special glow. A light perfume drifted in the air, subtle and entrancing.

The graveyard's gloomy miasma was perfect nourishment for the red spider lily.

That special ghostly purple light set the entire grave aglow. The mirror-bright golden headstone reflected the lily, and within the reflection, phantoms writhed, as if another world lay inside.

Damian studied the golden headstone carefully and at last saw flickering golden text surface:

[Corpse: Hasgard]

[Rank: Taurus Gold Saint]

[Yield: Cosmo +40, Strength +39, Constitution +25]

[Extractable Abilities: Great Horn, Titan Nova]

[Grave Grade: Gold]

Fantastic!

The ancient scroll's burial method really worked.

I finally have a Gold-grade grand grave!

Damian couldn't help grinning, excitement beyond words.

At last he'd raised a Gold Saint's grave to Gold quality.

And Taurus Gold Saint Hasgard's other finisher, Titan Nova, had finally dropped.

Sure enough, as long as the headstone was cast with Gold Cloth materials, the grave would rise to Gold quality and yield the Gold Saint's full move set.

The cost, though, was steep—his stockpiled Gold Cloth materials, saved for days on end, were completely consumed.

It felt like instant bankruptcy.

Still, bankruptcy came with a return—the grave had dropped an extremely powerful Gold Saint finisher.

Without hesitation, Damian pressed his hand to the headstone.

In a blink, a powerful Cosmo and attributes poured into his body. Every muscle trembled in delight, and his inner Cosmo quivered in kind.

One Gold Saint's Cosmo yield could equal that of many Bronze and Silver Saints combined—never mind the moves; every one was a heavy hitter.

Taurus Saints were famed for valor and power. The previous Taurus, Hasgard, was a standout among them.

This time the strength haul was massive—thirty-nine points dumped into Strength. His whole musculature felt like it was swelling, heat steaming off him.

Of the three basic attributes he'd farmed in the graveyard, Strength was by far the most.

Now he felt power radiating from all over, exploding off the charts.

A strange vision rose before his eyes.

Before him stood a Specter with wings, clearly formidable—dark aura rolling, an odd smile on his face.

These were Hasgard's memories.

Winged "birdmen" were never easy, especially ones who could still smile in the face of a Gold Saint—plainly a hard case.

Who among the 108 Demon Stars was he—Heavenly Violence Star Huihuo?

To still grin so brightly before a Gold Saint, he must be on par with the Underworld's Three Judges.

"Titan Nova!"

With Hasgard's roar—

"His" great hand swept out and his Cosmo exploded in an instant. The space ahead seemed squeezed by a massive force, compressed violently.

Stone and earth shattered. Heaven and earth turned over. A cataclysmic blast erupted—ground and sky swallowed by dust and rubble.

The explosion tore both the Specter and the earth to pieces.

When the dust cleared, the entire stretch of land had vanished—replaced by a gigantic crater.

Everything had been ripped apart by Titan Nova!

The Specter was gone without a trace.

The vision faded, and the Titan Nova technique's usage surfaced in Damian's mind.

Titan Nova concentrates all the body's power and Cosmo into a lethal strike. It's a wide-area annihilation move, but you can compress the energy to destroy only what you want—an ultra-strong physical attack that, on release, can unleash a terrifying force to upend the land.

A brilliant killing move!

Damian split into a grin.

It seemed he'd chosen well—he needed something that could face Galaxian Explosion head-on.

And Hasgard's Titan Nova fit the bill perfectly.

Its lethality, burst, and destructive power were enough to rival Galaxian Explosion—though the cost was high and the area of effect huge.

Beyond the Taurus finisher, the strength and constitution gains were excellent. His raw body defense had also jumped significantly.

Now his bones and sinews were iron, his skin like plate. In a charge he would be unstoppable.

In terms of defensive effect, it couldn't match a Cloth, of course—but the increase in constitution and strength would clearly boost his combat power.

Cosmo also adds to strength and constitution: the stronger the Cosmo, the stronger the body. The two complemented each other.

Simply put, his health bar had gotten longer again.

As for how tough his body had become—he didn't know yet. He wasn't sure he could tank Saga's Lightspeed Punch.

"All my Cloth materials are spent, and I could only forge a single Gold headstone."

He glanced at the other markers and sighed.

The remaining Gold Saint graves were Scorpio, Leo, and Cancer. The moves they had in life were no joke either—too bad he had no resources left to farm them.

Otherwise his power could jump several more tiers.

The main thing was that headstones couldn't be recycled—one rutabaga per pit.

Each headstone bound to a single grave; swapping it to another was useless.

"Now I can face Saga head-on. If you dare come picking a fight again, I'll blast your face with a Titan Nova."

Damian narrowed his eyes.

That said, without a Gold Cloth, and relying only on the Muscle Cloth, he couldn't tank Galaxian Explosion.

For now, Titan Nova and Galaxian Explosion were merely attack-equivalents.

He had plenty of Gold Saint skills and a solid Seventh Sense—constant-state Seventh Sense, even.

But there were weaknesses: pitiful defense, for one; too little combat experience, for another.

Titan Nova's power and radius were too great—hard to practice alone right now.

Should he go out and find someone to spar with?

Ordinary Saints didn't interest him—he could end those fights in a few moves, which wouldn't satisfy or train him.

If he could find a few Gold Saints in the Sanctuary to exchange blows with, that would be ideal—he could ramp his real combat fast.

Too bad no one wanted to play.

Best if the other side didn't know who he was.

Should he go smack Seiya around for fun?

As Damian plotted how to find sparring partners, a rapid bell peal sounded faintly from afar.

Dong, dong, dong, dong…

An alarm?

Saga was summoning the Saints.

Looked like something big was happening in the Sanctuary…
