It's like entering a wildlife sanctuary.
Unlike William's method of managing small batches to ensure his little creatures don't fight, Newt's case is like a riot of magical creatures in chaos; this old man, who has explored almost every corner of the world, has a suitcase with a biodiversity that rivals a small world.
Of course, Newt originally didn't intend to keep so many. Unlike William, who has the mentality of raising pets and training Pokémon, Newt treats these animals more like friends. When he took in these little guys, he didn't do it with any kind of... Druid aura.
Although he was born with the ability to communicate simply with animals, he couldn't make every animal he met instantly like him.
Unlike William, who with a simple greeting could have Fire Dragons fawning over him, Newt became a master in the Magical Creatures Realm purely through his deep understanding of them.
After all, he's been dissecting Horklumps (a kind of pink, bristly, mushroom-like creature) alone in his bedroom without batting an eyelid since he was seven.
Because that thing looks like a hairy lump of flesh, and just seeing it could make any normal person go mad with sanity loss.
So, Newt always preferred that these little creatures live in places familiar to them. But here's the problem: with the rapid development of human society, the living space for Wizards has been drastically compressed, and this, of course, includes these Magical Creatures—
Even though Tina has been "tethering" him to the small patch of land in Europe, Newt occasionally takes in some sick or homeless animals, as many people send them to him by mail. After all, Newt's expertise in protecting Magical Creatures is recognized throughout Europe, which naturally includes treating these little guys.
And now, William is somewhat overwhelmed by everything in the chamber, like a row of Swooping Evils hanging upside down from the beams, three or four Earth Minks poking their heads out of the ground, a silvery green Moke lazily lying on a branch, Billywig buzzing around in the sky, and a Ghoul lying in the corner daydreaming...
"Plop—"
Suddenly, a little blue bird with spots all over its body landed in William's hand, and it stared at him eye to eye for a long while. Just when William's eyes began to feel sore, the little bird suddenly cried out—with a very peculiar sound that resembled tapping steel pipes with wooden sticks, followed by the snoring of the Swooping Evil sleeping, and a symphony of various other sounds, including the roar of a Fire Dragon.
Until finally, after a short monkey-like cry—
It simply "snap" died right in William's palm.
"?"
It took a full two and a half seconds for William's brain to finally recall the species of this little bird.
"Ah, it was about time..."
Walking ahead, Newt also heard the sound and sighed helplessly. "Ali was already very old, but I thought she could last another month. I didn't expect it to be now... Hand her to me," Newt said, extending his hand to take the bird from William.
This was a Jobberknoll, which spends its entire life without making a sound, only to call out every sound it has ever heard in its life the moment death arrives.
And William remembered it because its feathers are one of the ingredients for Veritaserum.
Newt placed the Jobberknoll back in the top nest, hastily covering it with a layer of flannel, then wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes, and began leading William to the other side of the room. Meanwhile, a group of Nifflers suddenly appeared out of nowhere and gathered around William's feet. Then, a dozen or so Nifflers emerged all over William.
"Oh, it looks like they're making friends."
Watching the two groups of Nifflers begin to interact, Newt chuckled, while William just shook his head, "Kabuda is surely going to regret not coming with me today." Hearing this, Fluffy, who was perched on William's shoulder, agreed with a "woof."
As soon as Kabuda was brought back by William last night, it, self-appointed as William's top underling, planned to intimidate this newest member. In terms of sheer power among William's Pokémon, Kabuda, with its ability to change size at will, was second only to the Poisonous Snake Green Pepper.
Though it may seem a bit upside down, that's just how nature works—size is king. Even if Norbert regains its original size, Kabuda can continue to grow. Though at a certain size, it might suffer from some oxygen deprivation, it can still perform its three-pronged attack known as "The Rogue's Triumvirate":
Grab it, swallow it, then lie down.
Through two asphyxiation events, Norbert reluctantly accepted Kabuda's title as the top underling.
And as the newest member at the bottom, Fluffy underwent some rigorous training under Kabuda's regime last night, so hearing William speak about it understandably brought it joy.
Letting the Nifflers play on their own, William followed Newt further inside. Along the way, it switched from day to night to desert to tundra within ten short minutes, making William feel like he'd traversed half the world, and by the time he was stepping on the rocky seashore, he was struck with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia.
In his mind, he seemed to hear the BGM from the movie "Interstellar"—
