Chapter 30 - 30. Space in the ring

She walked back to the pond, her reflection staring up at her. For a moment, she saw the Lexi of before—timid, beaten, pretending weakness to survive. But when she blinked, that girl was gone. The one who stared back was sharp, cunning, unyielding. A queen in the making.

‎Lexi touched the water, her voice low but filled with resolve.

‎"You wanted to chain me, Nathan. You wanted to use me, Ezra. You wanted to break me, Lisa. You all thought you held the strings."

‎Her lips curved, her eyes glinting.

‎"But from now on, I pull the strings."

‎The space seemed to respond, the flowers swaying though no breeze touched them. The pond rippled, glowing faintly as though the space itself recognized her claim.

‎Lexi threw her head back and laughed. It was not the laugh of a girl. It was the laugh of a queen who had found her throne.

‎Far away, in the forest above the cliff, Nathan still knelt at the edge, staring into the churning river below. His fists bled where his nails dug into his palms. His eyes were empty, hollowed by her absence.

‎She was gone.

‎He didn't know the truth—that she lived, reborn, in a place beyond his reach.

‎For now.

‎Lexi sat by the pond, the jade ring glowing faintly on her finger now, its warmth pulsing in time with her heartbeat. ‎

‎Her game had changed. The board had expanded. And she would play it like no one had ever dared.

‎‎For days, she continued to experiment.

‎She thought of the dagger she had lost at the cliff, and with just a flicker of thought—it appeared in her hand. Her eyes widened. She could pull objects into this space?

‎Grinning, she imagined a jagged stone from the riverbed. It appeared at her feet.

‎The rules became clear: anything she touched, anything she claimed, she could drag into this space at will.

‎But there was more.

‎When she closed her eyes, she willed herself out. Her body shimmered—then she vanished from the space and reappeared in the same river she had fallen into. For a heartbeat she panicked, but when she thought of the space again—she was back, dry, safe, standing on the grass.

‎Disappearing and reappearing. Movement through thought.

‎Lexi's smile stretched, cold and delighted.

‎"This world wants me dead, but instead… it gave me this."

‎She spent hours testing her new strength. Her movements grew faster, her body lighter, her reflexes sharper. She found she could sprint across the meadow and stop on a dime, every muscle perfectly balanced. When she slashed with the dagger, it cut deeper, faster.

‎Every scar, every weakness, had been erased.

‎Lexi stripped, standing naked by the pond, staring at her reflection. What stared back was no longer the bullied schoolgirl, nor the exhausted survivor. Her skin was flawless, luminous, untouched by filth or time. Her body slender and curvy, supple, honed like a weapon.

‎A queen's body.

‎Lexi smirked at her reflection. "Soft, beautiful… perfect bait. They'll never see the fangs underneath."

‎She slipped into the water, letting its healing warmth surround her. Each breath felt like power sinking deeper into her veins. When she surfaced, she whispered her vow into the quiet air.

‎"I'll grow stronger. Strong enough to crush them. To climb above every last one of them. Until the world bows to me."

‎Her laughter echoed again, chilling in the paradise-like meadow.

‎The weak facade was over. From this day forward, she would no longer cower, no longer play the lamb. She would build her throne out of this chaos.

‎Far away, in the camp, Nathan stared at Lexi's empty room on the surveillance screen. He poured himself another glass of wine, fury and obsession swirling in his veins. He didn't believe she was gone. He couldn't.

‎But Lexi—Lexi was already beyond his reach, her new power blooming in silence.

‎And she was smiling.
