Chapter 21 - chapter 21

Chapter 21

The next morning, the cold light of dawn barely touched the stone walls when the guards arrived to drag Jake, Elias, and Raina from their cell.

Raina looked up, her voice steady but laced with unease.

"Where are you taking us?"

One of the guards, a cruel grin spreading across his weathered face, rested a heavy hand on Raina's shoulder.

"To death," he said simply.

Jake and Elias exchanged a quick glance, the familiar fire sparking in their eyes. Elias leaned toward Jake and muttered with a smirk,

"This will be a first."

Jake's grin matched the challenge.

"You took the words right out of my mouth, mate."

They were marched through the streets of Port Royal, the eyes of the townsfolk following their every step. Whispers spread like wildfire — pirates, thieves, criminals condemned to die. The crowd grew thick with curiosity and anticipation, waiting for the spectacle to begin.

Elias glanced around with a cocky smirk,

"God damn it, look at us — so famous."

Jake chuckled dryly,

"And about to die."

Elias's eyes gleamed as he spoke louder, so the crowd could hear,

"I mean, where's the fun in life if you don't face death every day? If you keep living normally, it'd be boring as hell."

The crowd fell silent, some staring at him like he was a madman, others intrigued by his defiance.

At the square stood the guillotine, cold and unforgiving. The three were forced onto the platform, their hands bound. Jake was first, his eyes flicking to the waiting blade with that same fearless glint.

Suddenly, a guard stepped forward and grabbed Raina by the hair, dragging her forward roughly.

"She'll be first," he sneered.

A hush fell over the crowd. The air itself seemed to stop — no one moved or breathed. Every eye fixed on the terrible moment about to come.

Then, from somewhere within the silent crowd, a sword flew through the air.

It landed with a metallic clink at Elias's feet.

The blade was black, gleaming ominously in the morning light. The crowd gasped, eyes darting, searching for the mysterious thrower — but no one stepped forward.

Elias's lips curled into a victorious smile.

Jake smirked wide, and Raina let out a relieved sigh.

With a quick, smooth motion, Elias crouched and grabbed the sword. One swift, fluid swing and the chains binding his wrists and ankles fell away, clattering to the ground.

He stood tall, eyes locking onto the guard who still held Raina tightly, his filthy hand lingering on her.

Elias's voice cut through the stunned silence, calm but deadly:

"You're first."

Before the guard could react, the black blade sliced through the air.

A clean, brutal strike — and the guard's head rolled off, thudding heavily onto the wooden platform.

Shock rippled through the crowd, but Elias didn't hesitate. Freedom was within reach, and the fight was far from over.
