Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Another three years have passed since then. I'm now seventeen, and Michael is twelve. My disciple training is proceeding smoothly. That kid ended up awakening his Nen in six months. What a natural talent. When I sincerely praised him, he gave me a cold look and said, "Don't you dare say that, Big Brother." I'm baffled.

We continued our training steadily, taking three months to build the fundamentals. For a test, I tried the Water Divination. I assumed he'd be an Enhancer, and sure enough, he was. Figures. The kid's stubborn. He spent one year on basic training. It's been one year and four months since we started incorporating the advanced techniques by Nen type. He hasn't mastered those advanced techniques yet, but his Nen control is getting quite good. I once measured how long he could maintain Ren, and he could do it for two hours. In Hunter x Hunter terms, maybe a mid-to-high-level Junior Hunter? Now that there are two Nen users, we've also been able to do simple combat training. This is the so-called Ryu (Flowing Dance), and it's excellent for practicing the offensive and defensive movement of Aura. For me, who is terrible at martial arts, it's been a really good lesson. When we first started, we made mistake after mistake and had constant injuries, but since mine healed instantly, Michael complained I was cheating. Well, that's just my inherent ability... just recover with Zetsu, alright? You're an Enhancer, after all.

The speed of his Ryu was initially as slow as a turtle, but lately, it has finally reached a normal pace. Invisible speed is still impossible, though.

Well, with training going so well, I figured it was almost time for graduation. I thought, since he's an Enhancer, he probably doesn't need a unique Hatsu, but Michael had apparently already decided on the ability he wanted to develop.

[Blessings Upon You, Anderson Familia]

Enhancement-type Ability

An ability to share Aura with a designated person, thereby strengthening them. Simply put, it's like applying a buff, making them physically tougher and allowing them to recover easier from minor injuries and illnesses.

Conditions:

* The power and duration are influenced by the depth of his affection (love/bond).

* Once applied, it cannot be removed.

* The time it can be maintained, and the number of people who can be affected, changes based on his Aura capacity.

...I see. He said he took my Hatsu as a reference, and it's quite a good ability. Like mine, it's not aggressive, but since he's an Enhancer, that's fine as long as he trains. More than that, I think it suits Michael, who values the family. My ability is only for my own use, after all.

However, this is a considerably high-difficulty technique, so he has no choice but to repeatedly practice the basics and the advanced Nen types. Roughly speaking, he'll need at least Enhancement, Manipulation, and Emission. Maybe Transmutation and Conjuration too? If he wants to incorporate a certain visual effect, that is.

Alright. I'll make the successful manifestation of this ability his graduation exam.

I also need to start moving for my own future, so I'll put out a status-report style summary of my achievements.

Kam Anderson (17) Status Report

Potential Aura Capacity: Approx. 200,000

Manifested Aura Capacity: Average Approx. 10,000

Basic Nen Abilities

* Ken Duration: Approx. 20 hours

* En Control Range: Approx. 500 meters radius (!)

Gyo Shifting Time: Average Approx. 0.5 seconds

Nen Type Mastery

Enhancement (Level 5+): Can dig a cave with an Aura hand. Can greatly strengthen inanimate objects and can penetrate iron.

* Transmutation (Level 5+): Can write letters and draw pictures in 1 second. Can make Aura soft or hard. Can change the shape of his En into tentacles.

Emission (Level 5+): Can float 5 meters with one hand. Has recently mastered a Kamehameha-like blast and can perform a Spirit Bomb. Only the Destructo Disc is still impossible.

Conjuration (Level 4): Can conjure all basic items. Claws are as sharp as a Japanese katana and can now be launched. Can grow his hair as long as Bluford's. The back-scratcher has evolved to a full-materialization level, which is a bit worrying.

Manipulation (Level ?): Inanimate object manipulation has evolved to a practical combat level. Can manipulate everything except air and metal. Recently enjoys playing ninja battles with Michael. Has mastered the Rasengan, which is strong enough for practical combat.

Specialization (Level ?): Cell Manipulation. Currently I have mastered about three-quarters of it.

Unique Hatsu Abilities

[Perfect Convert]: Can handle simple poisoning in 3 minutes. Flu-level in 30 minutes. Lethal level in half a day. Hasn't been activated recently.

[Healthy Man]: Can handle small cuts in 30 seconds. Large cuts in about 5 minutes. Bone fractures in a little over 15 minutes. Can reattach a severed finger in 30 minutes (if the part remains). A whole arm would likely take an hour. A fatal injury is estimated to take about half a day, depending on the location. It hurts, so he doesn't really want to test it.

My Aura capacity has doubled in the last three years. Though a rough calculation, it's a tremendous amount. I feel like I've probably reached the highest human level. It's terrifying that there's still room for development. Since I have the chance, I want to go as far as I can. Well, I probably still can't beat anyone above the level of the Chimera Ant Royal Guard.

By the way, my Aura control has finally stabilized, and I can now achieve extremely quick Aura shifting (Gyo). Persistence is power. The growth of my En is particularly crazy. The perception in En makes the sensations of the parts the Aura touches extremely vivid. The trick is to emit Aura using the principle of Ren and just spread it out. It's difficult to maintain, and the increased sensory input is mentally exhausting. Well, since my brain's processing power has increased, I'm relatively fine there.

For now, I'm satisfied that I can reproduce techniques from the manga. Next up is preparing to travel the world. After graduation, I'll have to increase my part-time hours and save up Jenny.

I've become the undeniable boss in high school, but my little brother also seems to be making a reputation for himself, so I can safely hand over my base of operations to him. As for what I'll do after I leave here, I plan to take the Hunter Exam. The current year is 1759. If it's held annually, that makes it the 46th exam when counting backward. Also, I hear the word "Hunter" frequently in the newspaper and in school topics, so there will probably be one next year. After graduation, the focus will be on part-time work and exam preparation for the time being.

I remember there was a survival test. I'll search for a jungle and practice for real.

Even now, Hunters are treated as superhuman and receive excellent benefits. Hiring a Hunter for security is apparently quite a status symbol for my father's business. It costs an outrageous amount of Jenny, so they can only hire them on short-term contracts. But if the exam is around the 46th time, and assuming an average of five or six successful candidates each time, there are only a little over 200 of them. That's a ratio of one or two per country. Of course, they'd be treated that way. Though, there are probably more Nen users out there, like Michael and me.

Dad used to complain a lot about it when he was drinking at night, but I want him to rest easy. I'll train the future head of the house so well that he won't be defeated by any ordinary Hunter.

In fact, I'm already unbeatable by anyone below a certain level...

I'll continue to devote myself to training while planning my future. It would be a terrible joke to die due to insufficient training, so I want to be able to at least run away from a Royal Guard-class opponent.

The bottleneck seems to be my physical ability. I'm starting to hit a wall with load-bearing training, including muscle training. Lately, I've been carrying large rocks at the aforementioned slag heap, but I wish I could figure out something more effective. I can't do things like that near the house.

The foreman at the slag heap has started using me for labor. After all, they don't need heavy machinery or explosives. And the mine poison doesn't affect me. In fact, thank you for the experience points for [Perfect Convert]! That's what happens when you have a weirdo who happily digs through hard rock formations. In exchange, I get to train as I please, so it's a win-win. Michael has also started working part-time recently, so the foreman is grinning. He better pay us well.

Also, martial arts. There seem to be masters in a place like Japon, and I personally want to visit, so I'll have to consider going there and becoming an apprentice. Self-taught methods have their limits, and it's a dilemma. Against amateurs, it's fine, but against a master, no matter how superior my Aura is, I feel like I'd get utterly thrashed without being able to do anything.

I wouldn't die because of my Aura and abilities, but I want to be able to at least put up a defense.

Well, in any case, this is all talk for after graduation.

Kam has finally begun to surpass the peak of humanity in terms of raw Aura capacity.

Alright, time to set out on a journey!

I have to go meet the heroine (the Dark Continent)! (Sense of mission)
