Mafioso's men had been ordered to keep a close watch on both Leo and Ellie. From across the street, through the smudged glass of a cafe window, they reported that Ellie had seen Leo, pretended not to notice, and avoided him.
A cold smile touched Mafioso's lips when he heard of it.
"Good," he muttered more to himself than to anyone else. "I'm going to make you lose everything Leo- your love life, your standing, power, everything. I'll make you miserable."
Now, Mafioso needed a plan. If he could destroy Leo's relationship with his grandfather, Leo would be vulnerable. Old Mr Marco had complete trust in Leo and made him the head of the Marco group.
He had to destroy that trust and prove to the old man that he alone was capable of running the Marco group.
"Sir," Gale, his assistant, said, stepping forward. "I've traced Leo's biggest current venture. He's been courting a major investment from the Swiss group, the single largest fund currently moving money into France. Old Mr Marco is very interested in this investment, if we can make him lose it, he might lose the old man's favor."
Mafioso considered Gale's word carefully.
"Fine," Mafioso said at last. "Sabotage the deal." He said casually
A small shadow of hesitation crossed Gale's features. He rubbed his palms over his suit as if to wipe away the doubt.
"But there is a little problem," he continued, speaking quickly, as if to get the warning out before Mafioso's temper hardened. "The investment is very important to the Marco group and can increase their stock price by fifty percent. If Leo loses the deal, it will greatly reduce the group's stock price, and that would be bad for the Marco group." he said, lingering on the last words.
As Gale spoke, Mafioso tapped the cigarette between his fingers against the edge of the ashtray and then stubbed it out deliberately, as if extinguishing the last hope
"I don't care about that, Gale," he said, his eyes filled with icy indifference. "The Marco group can rise again later. What's most important now is to make Leo lose his position as president, let the old man realize I'm the best choice.
Gale swallowed. "Okay sir," He said finally, the words precise and resigned. "We will proceed with the plan."
He left the room without looking back.
