Chapter 148 - Chapter 146: Harry Lost and a Bag of Cat Food

If it's just adding a class, Professor McGonagall probably wouldn't refuse, but to change a class... honestly, Kael felt the chances were slim.

However, seeing the hopeful looks on Fred and George's faces, he just shrugged and said nothing.

Let them give it a try, maybe if Professor McGonagall is in a good mood today, she might agree.

The first class of the year was still Charm Class, and after leaving the auditorium, Kael bid farewell to the Weasley brothers and Cedric, and headed to the fourth floor of the castle by himself.

On the way to the second floor, Kael suddenly saw two freshmen wandering on the stairs.

Harry and Ron.

They were circling around two fake staircases, wandering anxiously on the second floor.

Kael watched for a while and couldn't help but say, "What are you guys doing... working out?"

Ron suddenly turned his head and, seeing a savior, pulled Harry over.

"We need to get to the Transfiguration Classroom, but we're lost." He asked breathlessly, "Can you tell us how to get there?"

"Follow me," Kael said, "I'm heading to the fourth floor too."

"Thank goodness!" Ron showed a relieved expression.

"Th-thank you," Harry said, looking a bit bashfully at Kael.

"It's nothing, it's just on the way."

Kael led them to the correct staircase and asked somewhat puzzled, "Didn't you guys buy the Hogwarts map?"

Upon hearing this, Ron's face immediately flushed, and he lowered his head without speaking.

Harry also said a bit sheepishly, "Twenty Galleons is too expensive, we, we can't afford it."

Although his vault was filled with gold, he didn't bring much for school this time. After buying a wand and books, he just had about twenty Galleons left.

It's only the beginning of the school year, and Harry naturally didn't want to spend all his money on buying a map.

"I'm not talking about that one," Kael said as he led them around a corner, "There are two kinds of maps. Besides the twenty Galleon one, there's a budget version for ten Sickles... Didn't Fred and George tell you?"

Harry and Ron were both stunned.

Upon Kael's words, Harry suddenly remembered that there was indeed a flyer about the map posted on the door of the common room.

However, he and Ron subconsciously thought it was the kind they'd seen on the train, so they didn't look closely.

Thinking of this, Harry's face wrinkled in regret.

If he had looked carefully then, he could have afforded the ten Sickles version.

"Here we are, the Transfiguration Classroom is over there."

After reaching the fourth floor, Kael pointed in a direction and then took something out of his pocket and handed it to Harry.

"Consider this a welcome gift."

Harry looked down and found two maps and a packet of... fish snacks?

"What's this?" Ron asked.

"Looks like pet cat food," Harry said. "Does Kael keep a cat?"

Ron thought for a moment and said, "His family does have one."

Harry quickly lifted his head and shouted, "Kael, you've given us extra cat food!"

"It's for you too!"

Kael seemed to be in a hurry to get to class, speaking without turning back, "I've got loads of that, take it back for your owl."

While speaking, he rounded a corner and disappeared at the end of the corridor.

This...

Harry stood there holding the packet of fish snacks, dumbfounded.

"Let's go, Harry, class is about to start."

Ron suddenly gave him a tug and said urgently, "It's Professor McGonagall's class, we really shouldn't be late."

"O-okay."

Coming to his senses, Harry put the fish snacks into his pocket and followed Ron in the other direction.

By then, Kael had already reached the Charm Class.

In the first class of the new school year, Professor Flitwick didn't immediately introduce new content but instead reviewed the spells learned last year with the students.

He spent half the class checking everyone's Levitating Spells and Softening Charms, and only when he was sure most people could skillfully cast them did he return to the high platform built from books.

"Today we're learning the General Counter-Spell, which can negate the effects of ordinary charms... Watch my movements; when you wave your wand, be firm, and make sure your voice is clear... Finite Incantatem!"

After Charm Class, Kael attended Magic History.

In the afternoon, he had two consecutive Potion Classes with Snape.

Just like last year, Snape still didn't treat Kael kindly.

"Who told you to chat while brewing a potion?"

Snape stood next to Kael, speaking grimly, "If you're not interested in learning, don't distract others, minus one point from Hufflepuff."

He then turned to Conna.

"The Lionfish Bone was well handled, plus one point for Hufflepuff."

Kael looked calmly at Snape.

He had long been used to this professor's double standards, and compared to the previous year where it would start off as five points deducted, this year wasn't so bad.

...

The first day of the new school year went by just like that. Although some classes weren't enjoyable, overall, it was still fulfilling.

Nighttime.

Located on the second floor of the castle, the library was very quiet without a sound, those towering bookshelves blocking the moonlight from the windows, making it appear much darker than other places.

"Creak..."

At this moment, the door suddenly opened slightly, just enough for one person to slip through.

"Tap, tap..."

Once the door closed again, there was now a distinct footstep in the library.

"Tsk, Filch is just way too devoted."

Kael lifted the Disillusionment Charm and patted his chest a bit fearfully.

Just on the stairs earlier, Filch suddenly appeared out of nowhere from some obscure corner, and practically brushed against his shoulder as he passed by.

Moreover, Kael noticed that Mrs. Norris paused when passing by him, giving a puzzled glance in his direction.

Kael guessed it might have sensed something unusual but wasn't quite sure.

Thankfully, Filch seemed to be chasing someone at that moment, and at his urging, Mrs. Norris left soon after.

"Seems like just using the Disillusionment Charm during night explorations isn't safe enough, I'll need to find some charm to mask smells when I get a chance."

Kael steadied himself and headed straight for the Restricted Area.

He remembered that one book detailed Soul Artifacts; it was called "Advanced Black Magic Unveiled," if he wasn't mistaken.

Kael suddenly felt a bit of a headache.

The Restricted Area only takes up a small part of the library, but it still has nearly thousands of books.

Without using magic, finding that particular "Advanced Black Magic Unveiled" among them isn't an easy task.

"Hope I can find it tonight."

Kael sighed, then lit his wand and walked into the rows of bookshelves.
