Chapter 93 - Chapter 87: Battle for First Place

"Yuki Judai, as expected, there's something special about him that others don't have."

Mitsuzawa watched Judai, who was proudly making a V sign on stage, almost mocking Chazz to the point of shutting down.

"It's not about analysis, it's not about calculation, it's purely dueling with a fiery passion and impulsive instinct, yet he has an unprecedented talent..."

Yugen thought to himself, making it sound so complicated, but isn't it just a Divine Draw...

Judai, with his natural card-drawing ability, was inherently better at drawing than others. In the early animation, his Elemental Hero build seemed to have only seven or eight Monster Cards—the majority of which each had no duplicates, and half of them were Mortal Bones, with the rest of the deck filled with seemingly meaningless Magic Traps.

If a card enthusiast saw this build, their first reaction would be, "Can this thing really have combat power?" But if you operate under the assumption that you will always draw the card you need, stuffing the deck with dozens of support cards that can handle various situations might actually seem impressive...

"I will definitely have a battle with Judai in the future. But before that..."

Mitsuzawa Earth stood up from his seat and looked earnestly at Yugen.

"First, solve the issue within the Yellow Dormitory. I haven't planned to easily give up on the first place."

"Then you better work hard to keep up, second place," Yugen said, standing up and teasingly.

"Of course." Mitsuzawa smiled, "I've prepared for a long time today, specifically completing the seventh deck built for this duel."

From some perspectives, Yugen could see shadows of himself in Mitsuzawa.

Mitsuzawa was the only one Yugen had found in the Academy who, like himself, carried several decks for dueling. When Mitsuzawa enrolled, he used the experimental entrance deck and carried six decks of different attributes and themes, which he called the "Six Harmony Decks."

In the original work, he devoted a month to research to complete the seventh deck to duel against Yuki Judai, who claimed to be first. But now it seems this honor goes to Yugen...

"What a coincidence." Yugen smiled slightly, "I also spent some time, but just yesterday my main deck was completed."

"Oh?" Mitsuzawa displayed a confident and slightly expectant smile, "So I'm the first to personally experience the main deck of the first place? I'm truly honored."

"Likewise, it's great to personally witness Mitsuzawa's seventh deck tailored for me."

"Then let's go, battle." Mitsuzawa said with high spirits, "Today, let's decide who is the strongest in the Yellow Dormitory!"

The two of them stepped down to the battlefield, and the students of the Yellow Dormitory quickly shifted their gaze in this direction. Both of them were overwhelmingly strong in the early exchange matches, and today it would be decided who the true leader was.

"Duel!" x2

[Yugen, LP 4000]

[Mitsuzawa, LP 4000]

"I'll go first, draw a card!" Mitsuzawa took the first turn, "I summon the 'Mathematician' in attack position!"

A white-bearded old man with glasses appeared on his field, holding a thick textbook.

[Mathematician, Attack Power 1500]

"Mathematician's effect, when summoned successfully, sends a Level 4 or lower Monster Card from the deck to the graveyard!"

It was evident at a glance that it's a very powerful effect, able to freely send lower-level monsters from the deck to the grave, regardless of the field, type, or attribute. Furthermore, when Mathematician is destroyed in battle, you can draw an additional card.

This card was also very versatile in the physical card environment back in the day, even being temporarily banned on the forbidden list. However, many competitive players familiar with it might not know that this fierce card originally belonged to Mitsuzawa.

Although Mitsuzawa's performance in the animation seemed quite lackluster, and his main aces were weak in the real card environment, many didn't know that quite a few powerful and versatile lower-level and support cards from the competitive environment were actually his.

"Next is the Magic Card 'Angel's Charity'; draw three cards from the deck, then discard two cards from the hand." Mitsuzawa quickly adjusted his hand cards, "Finally, set a card on the field, end turn!"

After ending the first turn's setup, Mitsuzawa squinted his eyes, examining Yugen.

In his eyes, Yugen was actually a rather unpredictable opponent. Unlike 90% of Duelists, Yugen always changed decks and countermeasures. He also realized that the opponent, like himself, liked to research opponents in advance to find weaknesses.

At least from Mitsuzawa's current observations, the themes, types, and attributes of Yugen's decks had no regular pattern, and strategies varied, making tactical lockdown quite challenging.

But this should be the same for the opponent. Mitsuzawa's Six Harmony Decks had almost no commonality with each other, and the just-completed seventh deck was debuting for the first time. It shouldn't be easy for the opponent to target.

However, after research, Mitsuzawa found a point of entry.

Thinking of this, Mitsuzawa's mouth curled up into a confident smile.

This duel, he must win!

"My turn, draw a card." Yugen said, "I'll also use an 'Angel's Charity', draw three cards from the deck, then discard two cards from the hand.

Then activate the Magic Card 'Mischievous Twin Fairies'.

Mitsuzawa squinted his eyes.

As expected!

After detailed observation and plotting statistical charts of the various cards and tactics Yugen had used, Mitsuzawa noticed that the opponent would have similar card choices in several vastly different decks.
