Chapter 70 - Chapter 66: It's All About Mindset

The students watching began to understand the strategy used by Yugen.

The invincible submarine has the ability to swipe directly at the opponent, and "Giant Machine City" can swap the submarine's attack and defense power at the moment of attack, increasing the damage from the initial 800 attack power to 1800.

After the submarine attacks, it also has the effect of switching to defense mode, and its rear does have a solid 1800, excelling in both offense and defense.

Seeing this strategy, many students had strange expressions on their faces.

For the moment, no one thought this non-mainstream strategy of avoiding direct monster confrontation was particularly strong, but it was quite cunning...

Though it successfully rattled Yuichi with a slap, and that slap was painful, most people still felt the advantage was with Yuichi. Including Yuichi himself, who thought the same.

"Tsk, a strategy using clever tricks," Yuichi scoffed, "but this little trick can end here.

My turn, draw a card!"

Yamamoto Yuichi entered Duel Academy with great ambition. From the moment he learned to play cards, people around him saw him as an elite. Until the exam into the Duel Academy, his life was smooth sailing. Although his written exams were slightly weaker, he was confident that in the academy's practical battles, he would not be inferior to others.

He set a small goal for himself: to advance to the Blue Dormitory in the first semester and to seize the top spot among new students before the final exams!

This included top elites who had advanced directly from the Middle School Department to the Blue Dormitory. If he couldn't even take down the No.1 of the Yellow Dormitory, what else was there to discuss?

So in his eyes, Yugen in front of him was just a small stage goal, a stepping stone to another level.

This battle today was first to establish dominance in the Yellow Dormitory!

"Activate the Speed Attack Magic - Tornado from my hand! Destroy a magic or trap card on the field.

Destroy the Covering Card on your left backfield!"

A pitch-black tornado rose, lifting one of Yugen's cards and shattering it with lightning. The cover was a Fallen Pit.

"Ha, it was actually Fallen Pit, what a close call. If I had recklessly summoned a monster with over 1000 attack power, I would have fallen into the trap."

Yuichi felt proud of accurately targeting the opponent's backfield.

"Then I'll normally summon 'Warrior Ape'!"

[Warrior Ape, Attack Power 1900]

Warrior Ape has a respectable 1900 attack power at four-star, and it can gain an additional 300 attack power if it destroys a monster in battle, easily surpassing the 2000 mark. It's also one of his favorite powerful lower-level attackers.

Yugen expressionlessly said, "Flip the cover card, Trap Card 'Fallen Pit'. It destroys any summoned monster with over 1000 attack power immediately."

A dark hole opened, and before Warrior Ape could steady itself, it fell into an abyss and exploded into pieces.

Yuichi: "..."

What the hell, you actually have a second copy of this?

Alright.

Yuichi reluctantly accepted this fact and continued, "Then activate the Magic Card 'Resurrection of the Dead' to revive a monster destroyed in this turn in attack position." (In the anime version)

The monster card that had just entered the graveyard popped back out.

"Resummon 'Warrior Ape'!"

[Warrior Ape, Attack Power 1900]

"Now let me show you how pointless such a crooked duel is!" Yuichi declared, "Go, Warrior Ape, attack the Submarine Robot!"

"Flip the cover card." Yugen calmly revealed another card in the backfield, "Trap Card 'Dimensional Confinement'. During the opponent's monster attack, the attacking monster is removed from the game."

Yuichi: "!!!"

The unfortunate ape couldn't reach the invincible submarine. Just as its huge palm was about to hit the submarine, the space suddenly cracked open, and a strong gravitational force pulled it away, vanishing instantly without a trace.

"My Warrior Ape..."

Yuichi's eyes turned red.

He never imagined his Warrior Ape, having just been rescued from the underworld for less than a second, would rush to another dimension at light speed, purely for sightseeing...

"Damn it... But now, your cover cards are all used up. Next is 'Hell Dragon's' attack!" Yuichi ordered, "Attack the Submarine Robot!"

This time, without any hindrance, the Hell Dragon's claws successfully broke through the defense line of the small submarine. The latter was torn apart on the spot.

At least this prevented the invincible submarine from swiping again next round.

"Ha, do you think you've successfully stopped this turn's attack?" Yuichi sneered, "It's not over yet! Activate the Cover Card!

Trap Card - Mirror Image Swamp Man!"

The trap activated, and a mass of black energy gathered, quickly forming the shape of a monster from the sticky swamp.

"This trap can declare any attribute and race upon activation and be specially summoned on your field as a monster card! I summon it as an Earth Attribute, Dragon-type monster!"

[Mirror Image Swamp Man, Attack Power 1800]

"The battle phase continues!" Yuichi ordered, "Mirror Image Swamp Man, direct attack!"

The trap monster leaped, directly crossing Yugen's empty front field.

Yuichi stared with wide eyes, holding his breath, waiting for the moment that attack hit that damn opponent.

However, just before the blow, the blade clanged against a transparent barrier.

Kite Robot!

"The effect of 'Kite Robot' in the graveyard," Yugen said, "Once, it can turn battle damage to 0 as long as this card is in the graveyard."

Seeing the unavoidable blow unexpectedly deflected, Yuichi's mood sank, just like when he thought he was claiming a prize but the webpage began loading endlessly.

"Kite... Robot? When did you..."

His pupils shrank as he suddenly remembered.

"When the Submarine Robot attacked, the field spell 'Giant Machine City' effect sent it to the graveyard from the deck..."

The surrounding students also immediately realized this point.

"I see," the model student Mitsuzawa Earth analyzed, "The 'Giant Machine City' not only swaps attack and defense during the submarine's direct attack but also uses the Kite Robot sent from the deck as a defensive measure...

Moreover, the submarine changing its form after attacking is also a defensive tactic. At first glance, it seems like a mere trick of exploiting direct attack effects, but it's actually a powerful combination of offense and defense."

The students who heard this analysis nodded in agreement: "Indeed."

Although they acknowledged its power, most onlookers watched Yuichi's increasingly red face with glee, thinking the same—

—I absolutely don't want to be that unlucky soul.

If you're matched against this guy, it's karma from a past life.

Playing cards against this person, winning is uncertain, but your mental state will definitely crumble...
