Chapter 267 - Chapter 153: War Mission

"C-Class mission, let me see." The registration ninja looked down and flipped through for a while.

"There are some C-Class missions, but the ones left are all war-related tasks. The regular C-Class missions have been completed recently." The registration ninja said, looking up.

"There are still a few D-Class missions. How about you, Jonin Mokgetsu, pick up some D-Class missions first, and check if there are any new C-Class quests tomorrow?" The registration ninja suggested.

"What a coincidence." Mokgetsu didn't expect to encounter such a situation.

Mokgetsu showed a thoughtful expression; he originally wanted to see how much reward a normal C-Class mission would bring, not expecting them to be completed already.

After thinking it over, Mokgetsu decided to take the students back for cultivation. There's no need to do D-Class missions, as the chakra reward is too low. It would be better to let the disciples train for a day.

"Hehe, then uncle, let us do a B-Class mission. We have completed A-Class missions twice, so B-Class missions should be no problem." Obito chuckled as he spoke.

He really didn't want to do D-Class missions again. Having done C-Class missions, he didn't want to go back to those odd jobs unless he was desperately in need of money and there were no other missions.

"Once you become a Chunin, I can assign B-Class missions to you." The registration ninja stated that the resume didn't count here; they only looked at ninja levels.

"Look, in our team, Teacher Mokgetsu is a Special Jonin, Kakashi is a Chunin, and the two of us haven't graduated yet, so that doesn't count; surely this qualifies us for B-Class missions, right?" Obito tried to bluff his way through.

"No, you have Intern Ninja certificates, so you're counted as Intern Ninja." The registration ninja replied mercilessly.

"Then give us the C-Class war missions. After all, they're just C-Class missions; there shouldn't be any difference, right?" Obito was still not giving up.

"Very different!" The registration ninja's expression suddenly turned serious.

"War missions are related to war, and the battlefield isn't a place for kids like you to set foot. Wait until you become a Chunin to have such thoughts."

"What's the matter, Sawada, having such a stern face while talking to the kids?" Sarutobi Hiruzen happened to walk down, smiling as he asked.

When he finished handling official business, he would also sit in the mission hall for a while. This not only showed Konoha's commitment to mission assignments but also allowed Konoha ninja to feel the Hokage's care.

"Third Hokage, here's the situation: Jonin Mokgetsu came for a C-Class mission, but now only war tasks are left, and this kid named Obito…" Sawada Kazuya greeted Sarutobi Hiruzen respectfully and explained the situation clearly.

"I see." Sarutobi Hiruzen nodded, putting the pipe in his mouth and showing a thoughtful expression.

In terms of strength, he thought this Mokgetsu squad could definitely handle a B-Class mission.

The Mokgetsu squad was fairly strong overall. Mokgetsu, being from Root, was not just a Special Jonin. Kakashi is an experienced Chunin, and Obito and Might Guy are also quite powerful.

Usually, the ninjas encountered in B-Class missions are Genin. For higher-level ninjas, payment and mission level need upgrading, and this Mokgetsu squad handling Genin would definitely not mess up.

However, since the Mokgetsu team has two interns, he already granted exceptions for C-Class missions. Giving more might not be appropriate.

"Hokage uncle, you know our team's strength; C-Class war missions are still C-Class; we surely can handle them." Obito looked at Sarutobi Hiruzen expectantly.

Sarutobi Hiruzen puffed on his pipe thoughtfully and said to Sawada Kazuya, "Show me the C-Class war missions."

Receiving the mission scroll from Sawada Kazuya, Sarutobi Hiruzen examined it carefully and found an escort mission to transport supplies to the Land of Grass battlefield.

C-Class war missions wouldn't involve ninja battles and were basically logistics tasks.

Typically, such supply escort tasks wouldn't be C-Class because there's a high chance of enemy village ninja attacks.

But the current situation was that Konoha and Hidden Rock were fighting in the Land of Grass, each holding a half, making it difficult for Hidden Rock to bypass into the Land of Fire for attacks.

While ninja squads can carry rations or hunt locally, such large-scale, prolonged wars require back-end supply chain support.

There are generally two scenarios: one is a front-line emergency needing rapid supply from the rear, and the other is regular supply transport from rear to front line, the latter being this C-Class mission.

"Your squad performed outstandingly, so I'll make an exception for your excellence and allow you to take on a war mission." Sarutobi Hiruzen cheerfully handed the supply escort mission to Mokgetsu.

"Mokgetsu, how about this mission?"

Mokgetsu received the mission scroll with both hands and, after reading the entire mission content, nodded and said:

"We will not disappoint you, Third Hokage. We will complete this mission perfectly!"

Mokgetsu was fairly satisfied with this mission; although it was a war mission, there was no danger involved.

He considered having a sociable bull in the team quite advantageous; without Obito, they wouldn't have gotten a task today and would have had to return for training.

Mokgetsu, like Obito, could brazenly ask, but it's not suitable due to his identity. Obito is an intern and acts impulsively, while he's a Special Jonin and a Ninja Academy teacher. Forcing a higher-level mission wouldn't fit his character setting.

"Yay, thank you, Hokage uncle." Obito immediately beamed with joy, thanking Sarutobi Hiruzen.

"You all are the future of the village; take good care of your safety." Sarutobi Hiruzen removed his pipe, showing a kind smile.

"Teacher Mokgetsu, let me see what the mission is." As Mokgetsu and the others were walking outside the Hokage Building, Obito couldn't wait to take a look at the mission details.

This is just human nature. The more you don't want someone to do something, the more curious they get and want to do it. Obito was very curious about what was so special about this war mission that prohibited interns from participating.

"You guys take a look too." Mokgetsu directly handed over the mission information for the students to pass around.

Obito eagerly took it and checked the contents, then showed a disappointed expression.

"What, isn't this no different from a regular C-Class Mission? It's just people turning into grain," Obito couldn't help but complain.

He thought this war mission would be very special, but it turned out to be a big disappointment.

"It's not the same. We're going to a battlefield, a battlefield of two of the Five Great Ninja Villages, which is arguably the most dangerous place in the Ninja World," Kakashi corrected with a serious expression.

In other situations, it might not matter, but Kakashi would never allow Obito to underestimate the battlefield because even Kage-level ninjas can face unexpected situations there.

"Although the chances of a fight breaking out are low, we must stay alert."

Even though it's a war mission, it's only a C-Class Mission, so Kakashi thought there likely wouldn't be any battles.

After all, in their first three C-Class Missions, they encountered surprises. It couldn't possibly happen again this time, could it?

"Kakashi, since you put it that way, we're probably going to encounter ninja and get into a fight," Obito said with a gleeful look.

Kakashi looked at Obito in confusion, wondering how he interpreted the opposite from his words.

"Kakashi, you see, you've said the same thing on your past three missions, and each time, a fight broke out. So this time will surely be the same," Obito analyzed earnestly.

Kakashi: ...

He was speechless, wondering how he got such a reputation for jinxing things; it was all just coincidence.

"It's just that during the previous missions, we had bad luck. The majority of the mission route is safe domestically, and the route to the Land of Grass will be guarded by our Konoha ninja," Kakashi said nonchalantly.

"Let's not discuss this further; let's get on with the mission. War missions can't be delayed," Mokgetsu said with a smile.

Previous missions had elements of luck and Mokgetsu's own efforts; he specifically chose relatively dangerous places, so of course, the chance of incidents was higher.

Then Mokgetsu led his disciples to the supply convoy's location.

"Ninja lord, we are ready on this end and can set off at any time," a middle-aged man approached after confirming Mokgetsu had taken the mission.

"We have no issues here; let's set off," Mokgetsu nodded, issuing the order.

This time, the mission was different; past missions always had a client, but this war mission's client was Konoha itself. Thus, Captain Mokgetsu had absolute command, followed by his disciples, and lastly, the ordinary people delivering the supplies.

Under Mokgetsu's orders, carts filled with grain began their journey to the Land of Grass, and Mokgetsu, along with his three disciples, sat in a cart that wasn't carrying grain.

"Teacher Mokgetsu, isn't there a technique to seal things into a scroll? Why not just put all the grain into it? That would save so many carts, and we wouldn't need as many people; we few could just escort it," Obito asked curiously.

If it was just the four of them escorting, their concealment would be greatly enhanced.

"That kind of thing isn't just about packing as much as you want," Mokgetsu said with a smile, explaining to Obito the principles of storing items in a scroll.

A scroll that can store items is itself a kind of ninja tool, and how much it can hold and retrieve depends on the ninja's ability. It's not about packing or unpacking as much as one wants.

Ninjas generally have large appetites, and since war involves incredibly intense battles, they'll be even hungrier. Meeting the needs of thousands of such big eaters requires a massive amount of food.

Naturally, powerful ninjas wouldn't be assigned to delivering food; they have more important tasks. So, ultimately, it's a combination of a ninja team with ordinary people.

Obito nodded, showing he somewhat understood, looking like he gained some 'cold knowledge.'

"What will the battlefield be like, Teacher Mokgetsu? Have you ever been there?" Obito shifted his curiosity from food to the battlefield.

Mokgetsu shook his head; whether in this life or the previous one, he had never been to a battlefield.

"What about you, Kakashi?" Obito then asked Kakashi. Might Guy, being a student like himself, certainly hadn't been to one.

"I've done several war missions, but never fought on a battlefield," Kakashi recalled, answering.

In regular missions, he was experienced, but he was still just an eight-year-old child without any real battlefield experience.

"You sure talked like you knew a lot before," Obito teased, noting that Kakashi's earlier seriousness had almost convinced him.

"I've never fought on a battlefield, but I've at least listened to the teachings of predecessors," Kakashi replied seriously, noting that war indeed requires a serious attitude.
