Chapter 25 - A Legacies Perspective

Elena was feeling grim. She had been dealt the worst hand she could have been when sent to the dream world. She barely had time to summon her armor memory before being ambushed by an abomination and barely being able to escape. She had been placed in a black cavern surrounded on all sides by cold black stone. Before she had even been able to summon a light producing memory she had been attacked. She had only been able to dodge by feeling the ripples in the air. She had been carved up before even being able to summon her swords. Bladed red tentacles tore through her armor and flesh like butter filling her mind with searing albeit familiar pain. She had managed to make distance between herself and the abomination using her dormant ability [Zephyr].

Using her dormant ability she carried herself with the wind which put great strain on her pool of essence. Despite the distance she was putting between herself and the creature she could hear the eerie sound of it squeezing through the tunnels not far behind her. She crashed into a wall after losing focus for a moment which filled her with blinding pain. Soon her essence was beginning to exhaust itself. She had already summoned her awakened armor and duel sabers for when it eventually caught up to her. It was going to be close but she should be able to kill it. However her plan fell apart quickly due to her ignorance of just how badly she was bleeding. She bobbed in the air before descending onto the cold stone. Her head was spinning from blood loss and she could feel herself slipping into unconsciousness. Just before falling unconscious she heard another set of footsteps approaching her.

'Is this really how I die?'

The thought wasn't bitter but comical. After all everything she had been through was this really how she was going to die? It was ridiculous! In some cave completely alone after having been ambushed as soon as she arrived in the dream realm? Had all her countless hours training and honing her skills really meant nothing?

That was a bitter thought.

However she awoke feeling sore all over but still alive a while later.

 'I'm still alive? How?'

Despite being covered in her own blood, most of her wounds had miraculously disappeared. The pungent smell of blood that wasn't her own filled her nose. She exhaled and remained still feeling the way her breath wrapped around her surroundings before deciding it was safe. Just as she stood while summoning her under armor she stepped on something fleshy. She was startled since she had failed to notice its shape. Her eyes adjusted and she recognized familiar feral looking hair and pale skin.

'Gwin? Is he dead and did he save me?'

It had been a sleeper she was familiar with at the academy. He was a childish guy who had been challenging her for his own ego after she embarrassed him on their first day of class.

Frankly she was annoyed by him but he had served as a welcome way to burn her frustration and nervousness. After all, who could turn down a punching bag that came back?

She couldn't feel any annoyance for him right now though. He must have been the one who saved her and closed her wounds. She just didn't know how and that was what worried her. His aspect had seemed like some sort of transformation, not one meant for healing others.

'A memory maybe?'

He did not seem like he was from a rich family so he must have gotten it from his first nightmare. Getting a memory from that was rare but not impossible but one that could close wounds was unheard of.

'Just what did he fight..'

She couldn't bring herself to leave him there and after checking that he was in fact still alive she began the process of moving them somewhere farther from where she had been ambushed. She extended her wind sense through the countless tunnels and began choosing the ones that would lead her farther up.

After dragging him half-hazardly up through several of the tunnels he finally began to stir. She felt relieved that he was alright. He had not had any visible wounds but he seemed to be suffering from essence exhaustion. A familiar face was comforting in the dream realm and he wasn't the most useless companion she could have been stuck with so there was that too. There was another reason she was relieved however…She had been dragging a naked guy around for long enough.

'So unsightly'
