Floating. That's what the dream starts of with. I'm floating in what feels like a huge warm bath. It's so soothing and I'm so relaxed. Next I hear a calming soft voice saying my name "Lianna. Time to wake up. Lianna, come now, wake up, we have important things to discuss." I'm sure the voice is female. I think it's female. Or is it a soft spoken young male. Only one way to find out.
Opening my eyes I'm surrounded by purple and blue, blending together in a calming swirl with strangely enough a table and two chairs just floating in mid air. Ok. Weird. Looking to my left I see what can only be described as the most breathtakingly gorgeous male. Strangely enough also in shades of purples and blues. Huh.
Eyes a strange hypnotic deep purple, ears slightly pointed, hair to his waist in a smooth waterfall that's actually the same shade as one, skin a light lavender colour that on anyone else would look like a sickly dead colour yet on him it glows with healthy vitality.
He was wearing what looked like a traditional Japanese, Chinese or Korean outfit. I'm no expert so sue me. They were also in the same shades. This guy really seems to like those colours. Wow.
At that thought I could see a slight eyebrow raise and a little smirk appear. Well that's strange. This guy reading minds or am I accidentally talking out loud here? "No, I can hear your thoughts though I try not to. You are practically yelling at me though, so sorry for that." Holy sheeshkebabs. My bad. How do I stop this. Ummmm think brick walls??? Eek
Giving a little laugh, he gestures towards the seats with a slight bow and takes a seat himself. With a wave of his hand tea and cakes and sandwiches appear. Taking a seat opposite him I look around again, trying to figure out where exactly I am and how I even got here.
"I guess I should get down to business. So, first things first. Sorry, you're dead. Now, because of that...."
"I'm WHAT????????" Holy crap that was loud but seriously, I'm dead?
"Ahhh.... Yes.... Sorry bout that. You died. You sleep walked out your bedroom window. Was fascinating to watch. Never seen anyone do that before. It amused me so I thought I'd see what else you could do to amuse me. That's why I'm sending you to another world where even more fun things happen so there we go. Now do you want to stay female or do you fancy a change and become a male? Or do you want to be able to change at will?"
"I'm sorry... What????? You can't just dump my death on me like that, laugh and expect me to just choose something that sounds ridiculous."
"What exactly is ridiculous? If I may ask. Everything I have told you is simple truth. You amuse me so I thought I would give you another chance at life. I'm not going to send you out there with nothing though. I will compensate you for choosing to do as I ask since I acknowledge it is rather selfish of me."
Grabbing a cake I cram it in my mouth and chew furiously as I think about all he has said so far. True, this place doesn't look like anywhere I have been and it's definitely not something I would have imagined up myself. I'm more of the library and cafe type of girl.
"So you say you are going to send me to another world. That makes you a god? A guardian angel? What exactly? What compensation are you planning to give me? I need the facts not just vague answers. So, lay it out straight for me."
"Oh, you're one of those. Well, in that case, you will be reborn into another world, you will retain all your memories from this life, that will surely help you in the future. You will be born to a family who are neither poor nor rich, just a regular family who love each other. You will have abilities that will help you throughout your life. The more you use them the stronger they will grow. You will also be able to learn new abilities and languages easily. The place I will be sending you too is one of magic and different races all living together harmoniously. Their will be creatures commonly known as monsters though that isn't exactly what they are, they are magic beasts who prefer to live in the wilds away from civilization though that doesn't mean they are all good natured towards others. Some are purely malicious towards others, even their own kind, preferring to live in small family groups. They tend to war amongst themselves but do sometimes stray to settlements when territory and food are short. So tell me. What about this are you thinking? What ability would you like above all others? This one will be your trump card. Your strongest ability. All others you learn will be stronger than normal but those you will need to practice hard to master. This first one will come with ease."
Grabbing another cake, I mull over everything he has said whilst trying to think of an ability that sounds and feels right to me. I've never really fit in anywhere in this life or should I say my last life if I'm now dead, so something that will help me fit in wherever I end up? That sounds like a good idea but how should that work? Obviously heating this the dude pipes up "ahhh a mimic ability? That's a very rare ability. It allows the user to literally mimic the people and beings in their vicinity, they can take on the appearance of whatever they wish, as the ability grows so does the range of the perception. When it starts it is just the immediate vicinity they can manipulate. It starts of with just making those closest believe that what they see is one of their species, as it grows the body itself will actually change into that shape or they can manipulate the views of more than one species." Hearing this makes me even more determined that this is the ability I want! "Yes! That one! That sounds like exactly what I wish for!"
"Well now, that was quick. You still haven't said whether you want to be male or female but I'm guessing with the mimic ability that won't matter as you can change that whenever you want when you are older. Now as for the rest of the abilities, I will give you luck at max, vitality at max, you will be able to use any weapon you so choose at top tier, you just need to touch it first, healing at max and one last one... What shall I give you. Hmmmm AHH I'll give you a foraging skill so that whenever you want to travel you can find useful materials easily. That should do it. Right off you go. I can't wait for the show!"
And that's how I ended up stuck inside a babies body. Right! Now I remember! Ok, but that doesn't explain what exactly is going on around me at the moment. I get theirs fires but where did it come from... What was the huge shadow. Come on eyes I really need you to focus now. Stupid baby body.
Right let's peek now and see if I can see what's around me whilst focusing on blending in with any living creature near me, I have a rather strong feeling it's not safe otherwise. Hello, fire and screaming really doesn't scream friendly does it. Hahaha! Ugh be brave be brave!!
Blinking the still slightly blurry eyes I finally managed to turn my head towards the first sound I heard which just so happened to be a heavy footstep. I see what made the large shadow now, it's a rather beautiful yet scary looking creature that is peering around curiously. I get the feeling of female from it even though there is no chance of telling just from looking at it. It is easily 12 foot tall, quadrupedal, with a soft looking scale over it's entire body. Even though it has scales it reminds me of a big cat yet it has twin tails and wings. I try and make it think I'm a younger version of it and feel a warmth flow over my body that has nothing to do with the fire surrounding me and it blinks at me before looking around again. Did it work? Please say it worked. This thing seems like it's the only friendly thing near me and I know with me being a baby it's my only chance at survival. Hell I've only been here 5 months and this has happened. Ive only just remembered that I'm a reincarnated woman. This body is still too little to do anything. Please like me whatever you are!
Thankfully the creature steps closer and gently nuzzled as it sniffed. Gently picking the youngster up it walks back into the woods. I'm safe. Yes!!! I can relax again. Thankyou gods!!
What she didn't notice was the troll that had been walking slowly towards her with a huge axe that was brutally dispatched by the creature carrying her. A mere flick of it's tail and a blade of air severed it in half.
