Chapter 13 - Baby Beast

Edward stood in front of the mirror, water still dripping from his hair, his thoughts scattering like leaves in a storm. Two weeks — that's all it had taken to turn his life upside down. Two weeks to go from hopeless to… something else entirely. It almost felt divine, as if a single unseen blessing had rewritten his story while he wasn't looking.

He leaned on the sink, staring at his reflection. All his life, he had struggled. Everyone did — some for money, some for dreams, some just to survive another day. But for Edward, it had always been one problem after another, like the world itself had made him its favorite target. Heaven hated him — or so he used to think. If not for this sudden twist of fate, he might have lived and died unnoticed, forgotten.A shiver ran through him.The thought was terrifying — dying without ever being seen.

Life… what a strange thing. A miraculous phenomenon no one truly understood. Why are we born? For what purpose? Why are humans the only ones who evolved this far — or did we just pretend to be superior? We fight, we suffer, we dream… and then we die.Was survival the only meaning of life? Or was there something greater we were never meant to know?

Edward had never been the kind to question gods or destiny. He used to believe such thoughts were for philosophers — or fools. He had always considered himself neither. But now…Now, everything was different. He could feel power coursing through him — changes that defied logic. Strength that would take others months to earn came to him in mere days. The world itself seemed to bend slightly in his favor.Even money — once a symbol of everything he lacked — suddenly felt meaningless. Were they all just puppets dancing in a delusion crafted by those in power?

"Okay, okay… Earth to Edward," he muttered, shaking himself free from the spiral. "Snap back, boy. Future problems belong to future me."

He glanced again at his reflection — and couldn't help but smirk. His body looked different now: stronger, sharper, more alive. The frail man who could be blown away by the wind was gone."Well," he chuckled softly, "looks like hope wasn't lost after all. Maybe one day, I'll even walk shirtless on a beach."

He pulled on his best hoodie and jeans — the only decent pair he owned — and called out, "Hey, Sugar. My car isn't just gonna appear out of thin air, right?"

Edward laughed. "Ha! At least you're in a good mood too. So, where's my baby beast?"

"Aurora Motors, huh? Sounds fancy. Guess I'll pick it up myself. First car of my life — might as well make it memorable."

Excitement flickered in his chest — a rare feeling he hadn't known in years. He stepped out of his apartment, every footstep lighter than the last. But as he reached the ground floor, a familiar voice cut through the air.

"Yo, Ed! Where you going?"Marcus was there — leaning against the railing, grinning like he'd been waiting all morning.

Edward stopped, blinking. "Marcus… are you waiting for me? Or did you install cameras in my hallway to track my movements?" He gave his friend a suspicious squint.

Marcus looked genuinely offended. "Bro! Of course I'm waiting for you. My brotherhood senses tingled. You needed my company."

Edward groaned. "What kind of messed-up senses are those? Anyway, I'm heading out to pick up my car."

Marcus blinked. "Car? Whose car? Don't tell me you bought some secondhand junk again."

Edward just smiled — a knowing, quiet smile that made Marcus frown even more.
