Chapter 2 - Night Job at Quinn's Landing

Me and Danny had spent five days working our butts off trying to get something that was eating locals.

"We can't have gotten it wrong every time."

"We must have, there is no way that we could have let a monster powerful enough to break the sound barrier to escape hundreds of times."

A man in a yellow jumpsuit appeared before us.

"Why are the tasty foods gone? My guess is that it's you people. Now, explain or I will make you my next meal!"

"Danny, I don't know what to do."

"There was only one thing in my teachings that prepared me for this. I've used it more times than I can count"

"What is that?"

"I'm afraid that it won't work."

"It's our best hope."

"RUN AWAYYYY!"

Danny turned his body and ran for the truck that he had parked with little footsteps and his screaming voice trailing off.

"Are you gonna get him or me?"

"Well, you'll get to him faster."

The speedster ran off after the old man and I ran forward, towards the woods where the monsters that were hunting me made their last known trek before disappearing. I didn't want to be at the belly of the beasts, but I had no hope, all of the options I falsely thought I had been gone.

"Ribb, you traitor!"

My plan was to get Danny back once I killed the speedster.

He wore a white robe and was in his late forties but was around seven feet tall. My mind was boggled by some of the creatures that inhabited this world.

"You should really not betray people, it's bad character."

"Oh great, you are going to eat me and lecture me on how bad of a person I am."

"Your selfishness is going to be the end of you."

"Just hand my rear to me and put me in the truck."

He followed the orders as he started by breaking my femur and kicking me in the chest.

"Anything else?"

"Nope."

My body that was beaten and broken appeared in the truck next to a bloodied Danny.

"I think it's Infania."

"Care explaining since you still refuse to give me monster lessons?"

"They are a mix of Blood Shena and vampires."

"I already know what a vampire is, but, can you explain the powers this freak possesses?"

My adrenaline wore off.

"Just speed, that is all they have. Other than that they don't squat, except hunger for human flesh."

"AGHHHHHHHHH!"

"Oh right, broken femur."

He slowly started the truck and slowly drove to the junkyard before slowly stopping in the driveway before slowly dragging me to the house where Angela was reading the new issue of reader's digest.

"Boy, if you get blood on my carpets then I swear to god himself, I will end you."

My blood got on the carpet, lots of it.

"He doesn't have long, he's going to bleed out if you don't get him to a hospital."

"I got blood bags in the fridge, try to keep him stable."

Danny left the room and Angela yelled a chant before a beam of white came down and slammed into my chest. Before I realized it, I was floating above myself with a view of my body. Angela turned back into the twenty year old woman that I met in the woods and my body stood.

"This host is temporary."

"Just bring him back, I like him."

"Move out of the way, oh crap."

The creature in my body looked down at my broken femur and it snapped back into place before my eyes erupted into a flurry of light. My vision got even blurrier and a second later I was back in my body.

"Mind explaining what in the world you are?"

"Danny, it's me."

"Prove it."

He started to encircle me like a shark until I had an idea.

"Your junkyard is named hunter sanctuary."

"How did you know that?"

"It's me, Danny."

"How can I be sure that you're not a doppelganger?"

"You can't, they are the only monster that you ever gave me a lesson in."

"Then explain to me, doppelganger. I know you died whilst I was performing surgery."

"Well, they have a weakness to metal and a desire to eat cheese, magic doesn't usually work on them and they are the next step in human evolution."

"Very good, but they are abominations, not the next step in evolution."

My mistake was thinking of monsters as somewhat sentient creatures.

"Wait, I know that you planned on just leaving me in the shack in the middle of the woods that were filled with monsters."

"Well, you hold grudges just as much."

"See!"

"Brash in your ideas, very much like Ribb."

He untied me and pulled a salt bag from behind my chair before he threw it on me.

"What are you doing now, Dan?"

"I was curious to see if you were a victim of spirit possession."

"Next time, just shoot me."

"Well, I need help with the infania and you have the goblin army at your disposal."

"They don't listen to me."

"Wrong, you just don't give them orders. See, they are eternally bound to your word. They will follow your orders to a tee, the only downside is that anything you don't tell them to do, they won't."

"Why do you know so much about goblin labor?"

"I was in the business once or twice."

"Come to me."

Fifty goblins appeared in the basement.

"Master?"

"Don't harm me or my allies in any way."

"Yes master."

"Also, go distract the infania until we get back."

It was around ten when we left for the city as Danny carved the sigils into the ground.

"Hold on to this for me."

He handed me the knife that he used to carve the sigil into his basement floor.

"So, will the sinkhole happen now or is there a delay?"

The second I finished my sentence the ground gave out under us as the city came into view. Still the same beautiful city but this time instead of having a brown and green tint as it was red.

"This is not the usual, the bosses must be in town."

We went to a building that had a magical wonder to it as we were at the capitol building of this town. It had something to it that I wanted to be in there.

"Well, that is good for us."

"I hope you're right."

The two of us walked into the building where a woman with fuzzy white hair and tiny glasses.

"Hey Danny, what brings you to the old junktown?"

"Well Cass, I need some help."

"With what?"

"We need the higher ups in the boardroom right now."

She picked up her phone.

"CODE RED!"

The little old lady took out a knife and yelled a chant before stabbing the phone.

"Please enter the boardroom."

We complied and inside was a white wooden room like one of those houses from two hundred years ago.

"Danny, so nice to see you again."

"Don't give me that crap, Odin."

Odin was a tall man in an all black outfit that was set perfectly with his long dark hair and his eyes that were black.

"You will take the seat closest to the door."

Danny turned his head to me and pinned me against the wall.

"Stand in the corner and don't talk to anyone, even if they are talking to you. Just let them yap."

"Okay?"

I underestimated the board greatly as many kinds of freaks came into the room

"Chandela of West Virginia, board treasurer."

A woman with long brown hair, green eyes, and scales that went down her business suit walked in.

"Good to see the cannon fodder is still alive."

"We all know you'll be the first to die after the revolution starts."

She took the seat next to Odin and sat in silence.

"Howard Hilgono of Amberlane."

The man was an infania and zoomed into the room. He took the seat closest to Danny and sat on his left.

"Nice to see you again, Danny."

"Your fly is down."

He checked before responding.

"Thanks, now where are the rest of those rich jerks?"

"Probably dead or wishing they were."

The higher ups were monsters that sat and ate people? Why would they destroy their own kind if this was just another piece of their nature?

"Philo Naen of Scotts, board vice president."

"Why, on god's green earth, is this insignificant creature still alive?"

"How's your hip after John shot you?"

"That was a hunting accident and we all know it."

"Then why did he reload?"

The man was wearing a trenchcoat over his unnaturally dark skin. Almost like he was a zombie that even though it was back, it still began to rot.

"Where do you think the others are at?"

"I told you not to talk."

Odin, who was on the furthest seat away from Danny on his left, stood.

"For now, I will be in charge of this proceeding."

"Well, I'm going to state my case right here, I need some hunters in my town."

"Why, are there only twenty monsters?"

"Try two hundred."

"We'll send Bane over."

Another person opened the doors.

"I believe that this is my city and you are sitting in my chair, young Odin."

Odin had a look of terror on his face before going back to his seat.

"Just like these people's dads, you are a deadbeat."

Why was Danny treating his bosses like this? He was supposed to be their employee.

"The board has spoken, your assistance will come."

"Okay, boss."

"We'll have you know that the reason sigils are carved into the wall is because we don't want to blind you with our glorious forms. We carved the sigils under the table to condense ourselves, for you."

"Thanks for the gratitude but I don't need it."

"Return."

The man in the doorway was bright and dark at the same time. He gave off light yet he didn't illuminate himself, like a reverse lightbulb. He waved his hand and we were back in the junkyard and there sat Angela, reading a book with a wizard on the cover.

"Where did you two go?"

"Shopping."

The time was four forty five and we said we went shopping.

"Where are the groceries?"

"They got caught on fire."

Danny went into his house with a look that screamed tired.

"What happened to him?"

"Sleeping spell."

"What happened to you?"

"I needed some time to go out and talk to the higher ups."

"What did the old farts say?"

"They'll send hunters to help get the monsters out of Quinn's landing."

"How very promising."

"Say, when I had a broken femur and was bleeding out on the table, what did you put in me?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Yes you do, there is something in me and it's angry, very angry. Don't think that I won't just take out a stake and stab you."

She looked like a ghost with how scared she was.

"It's the way of the world, it decides where the world goes. Westward expansions, revolutions, and even moon landings were all things that happened because of this creature."

"So you summoned the stock market crash into me?"

"Yeah."

"Nice to see a witch and a hunter get along so well."

"Who are you?"

A man with a leather coat and sunglasses stepped forward. He had a goatee that was very out of touch and a machete in his belt that contained the entire sigil and rune alphabet.

"They call me Bane Sondo."

"Word of advice, just don't tell Danny that she is a witch. Bonus points if you don't die tonight."

"Nice to see another hunter with such respect for the well being of those that are around him."

"Say, do you mind leaving the grown ups to talk?"

Angela went back into the house and out came Danny.

"We need to get to Quinn's landing, now."

The three of us got into Danny's truck and sped for the landing but when we arrived, there stood the infania.

"I got a proposal."

"What is it?"

"We don't negotiate with monsters."

Danny and I glared into the soul of Bane.

"We do now."

"Here is the deal, I give you the names and locations of all the monsters and you give me a head start."

"Make it thirty minutes."

"Then I'll be giving you half the map."

"How about thirty five?"

"Sure, then I take most of it."

Danny was determined.

"Forty-five for most of the names, final offer."

"Deal."

Infania ripped off the bottom of the piece of paper and handed the top to Danny.

"We'll be seeing you soon."

"Sure."

He winked at me and disappeared in a flash. While I was considering using the healing beast for some stock in the junkyard, Danny read the list.

"You got some explaining, boy."

"I'm twenty-seven."

Danny hit me across the jaw, and I fell to the ground.

"Why are you holding the beast?"

Bane put his hand on his shoulder.

"Now, this is not how we treat our proteges."

"He's the beast."

"I don't care."

"Fight for survival."

Thirteen monsters were in the place and had their sights trained on us.

"We need to get out of here now."

Danny grabbed me by the arm and started to drag me back to the truck. Dragging is being generous as he pulled me across the rocky ground for five minutes whilst screaming at the top of his lungs. Now that I think about it, I was probably the one screaming.

"Can you drag me a little lighter?"

"AGHHHHHHHHHH!"

Not the response I desired.

"Get in the truck."

"I can't feel my legs."

"Drama queen."

The fifty year old man shoved me in the back of his truck before a giant praying mantis came up behind him and took him away. The green beast stood with him in its hook hand and walked away like he was a delivery man that was taking a package away to the receiver.

"Here's some voodoo dust."

Bane tossed a sack with dust that went out the bag and into my face.

"We got a little problem with grandma back here."

Bane didn't care, he hopped into the front seat and it turns out Danny left the keys in the ignition as we drove back to the sanctuary.

"So you're telling me, I move in with you and my ex. We live in my ex's house and then you're telling me he got attacked?"

Bane knew about the duality I had on Danny and Angela.

"We needed his truck for a job and well, there were a lot more monsters than we could have guessed."

"Is he alive?"

"Probably not."

"What a lot of hope you got there Bane."

He was probably right.

"So can you explain why I haven't killed you already?"

"No."

Danny was about to beat me silly and Bane stepped in, why?

"There is a tale that the board will destroy the mother of all monsters and one of them is going to become the new monster lord. Only thing is that they need to find her and you are the key to that. What is a bigger adventure than killing the queen of monsters?"

"You're right, Danny has a bargaining chip and it's me."

Angela walked in between me and Bane.

"We need to save Danny."

"How are we going to do that?"

"There's a finding spell I know."

She took out her book and started to chant before sighing.

"What?"

"I just remembered I don't have the blood of a phoenix."

Bane opened his leather jacket to show vials on top of vials of supernatural objects that were in every color. The amount under that jacket put what Danny had under the kitchen sink to shame. The bone marrow of a sinner was fresher than Danny's.

"Do you have it?"

"I don't know. Are you going to help me look?"

"You lost the blood of a phoenix, in your coat?"

"This isn't an easy job, especially with my health."

There were supernatural monster poisons and then there was the long slew of heart medications that made a pharmacy look like a grandma's closet.

"Look at my luck, here's some real fuju juice."

"Can you stay out of my meds?"

"Did I say fuju? I meant fujo juice."

"Tricky creatures."

Finally, the search was over and a vial that had blood in it with a burn on the top. It wasn't boiling, it was burning through the glass and needed a new container.

"Found it."

"Give it here, now that we can do it, I need to have you do the spell, Bane."

"Why me, magic gives me heart attacks, that's why I use weapons and runes."

"He doesn't know that I'm a witch."

Bane, with his dark goatee with white strains in it, stared at Angela before looking at me.

"I'm going to need a lot of help, Ribb."

"Please, call me Karter."

"Sorry, but no, it is standard procedure to call newbies by their last name."

"Why?"

"So that way the board can have you and your bloodline on their payroll for hundreds of years. Creates a sense that you belong to the family that belongs to the board."

Why did people serve such evil?

"Are you gonna answer the question?"

"I'll do it."

"You won't do it right, Karter."

"Never was taught."

Angela taught me some simple spells whilst Danny taught me combat and sigils. Personally, the form of combat known as ambush would be better to do than find Danny.

"Well, I guess that I'll do this."

Angela put the phoenix blood over the bowl and Danny screamed out from where the bowl was.

"The diner, I'm in the diner. There's new monsters."

"Fine, we're on our way."

"Is that you Angela?"

This was something I had to do.

"No, it's Karter."

"Now why are you using magic, boy?"

"Just hold tight."

We went out the door and into the truck that was provided by Danny and drove to the diner but before we could get to the town at the end of highway sixty two, three trees were in the way.

"We don't work with horse thieves out here."

A man in a cowboy custom came out and he was accompanied by ten more men dressed just like him.

"Are you someone of importance?"

"I own the ranch that you stole those steer and horses from. All in all, I say that you have earned this."

Me and Bane got out.

"Let's hurry this along, we have a friend waiting for us in town. He needs some help and a lot of us are stuck here."

The cowboys pointed guns at us with a hunger for fear but Bane, this six eight man let out a laugh before taking a chain from his coat.

"This is a waste of time that I will find interesting."

Chains appeared over the men before they fired their guns into the air and all of them fell.

"What did you just do?"

"Choked some cowboys with a chain I got at a yard sale."

"What kind of yard sales are you going to?"

"The bad kind."

Bane's chain was whipped at a tree, wrapping around the piece of wood and pulling it towards us.

"There is no way you're human."

"I have a thing called working out and good genes."

"Those genes give you heart attacks at fifty?"

"This has nothing to do with my heart meds."

"Can you quit lying?"

Finally the chain wrapped around the other trees and pulled them into the ditch by the side of Danny's truck where Angela laid.

"Will you idiots hurry up?"

Bane stared into my soul and whatever was in there.

"Don't ever call me a liar."

We got in the truck and drove off to where we needed to be, the diner. Down the freeway to see at saints bridge a group of men in varying attire standing on the pavement in front of a diner that was across the street from where I ended up after escaping the monsters. Now, they were waiting for me.

"Anybody want steak?"

Twenty living weapons plus a hidden praying mantis. Escape wasn't an option and a shootout would be unwise.

"Where's Danny?"

Bane stepped out of the car.

"We want a friend back, for yours."

"Who?"

The freak who was talking looked like Odin, black eyes and neat suit but he had a fool head of hair and it went to his knees.

"Angela."

She got out of the truck which was pointed directly at the monsters and started to walk forward.

"You…not…friend."

The werewolf with my father's silver ring busted out from the back of the crowd. Knocking all of them on the ground before getting to her.

"Hello, Barry."

Close encounter was an understatement as a stake and chains from her two friends came in contact with the werewolf, ripping it down.

"Anyone else want to take my heirlooms?"

I placed the ring back on the middle finger of my left hand before walking towards the crowd.

"Stay back!"

"If this power controls directions, then I will see what I can do to you."

"We said stay back!"

"How about you stay back?"

The Odin look alike flew back into the wall before the others charged,

"Go to the moon."

It was five a.m. and the group of creatures flew into the sky with a bunch of yells for mercy.

"We've been wanting to talk to you."

In the room was a woman who was in her late teens, white button up and blue jeans. She seemed almost mother-like in her actions until it hit me.

"You're the mother."

"How nice of you to realize."

"Do you have anything good in that kitchen?"

She stood from her chair and I slowly walked backwards as she went to the kitchen and started to talk whilst cooking.

"You know, most of the monsters in this town are children or great grandchildren, but the way of the world is the youngest of my creations. His birth started the great depression and him going out for a host started the two thousand eight housing crisis. He is a piece of destruction and loves it."

"Can you take him back?"

"No, but I can give you your friend back."

This must have been what businessmen felt when they had been backed into a corner.

"Then no deal."

"Out of all the people that were chosen by Way, he likes you the most."

"Center of the earth, everyone get in here."

They complied and saw her barely walking towards me with a basket of fries in her left hand.

"He's strong, but he isn't me."

A tentacle burst from her shoulder and wrapped around Bane's neck whilst Angela hurriedly looked for a usable spell.

"You are not going to leave this diner."

"I will stay in this town until my children stop being hunted."

"Then you'll die here."

My dagger with a sigil on it burst out of its sheath and went straight for the slow moving mother. She lifted her free hand to slap the blade out of my hand before putting my fries in my palm.

"Keep those promises."

Bane's chain came at her but she reached out and wrapped it around her arm.

"Worth a shot."

"You're right, it does hurt a little bit."

My dagger was just out of reach.

"Guan ko."

Red ribbons wrapped around her arms and legs. She was dragged to the ground as Angela went for my dagger.

"Thanks for the timing."

"Don't be so sore that you got saved by a witch."

"Why are you not loyal to her?"

"Witches are man made, what happens when someone mixes with magic a little too much."

"Stop the speech and free me."

Angela handed me the dagger before I plunged it into the restrained woman. The blade only bounced off her skin like she was made of steel. Weirdly, the sigil on the dagger disappeared and the mother made a squealing sound.

"The sigils aren't strong enough."

"How about instead of giving me pointers, you tell me where Danny is?"

"I won't, you can torture me all you want. This little brawl of ours will continue until you die of old age."

"Bane, call the higher ups."

He complied and in ten seconds portals appeared on the floor before the higher ups crawled out.

"May we ask why you brought us here?"

"I got the queen of all monsters."

"She won't stay here long."

Odin was the first one out and he was very mad. Almost like he didn't want to have the queen at his mercy.

"We have a question, Lord Odin."

"What is it, Bane?"

"I wonder if there will be a reward for setting off the apocalypse."

"How about, death?"

"Money is preferred."

"Very well, I will give you ten million and five million to the allies in the battle."

Odin's eyes went white, almost like his eyes were linked to his emotions.

"Thank you."

"Well, I'll have you executed soon so you probably won't even spend it."

Bane's chain went for Odin but he waved his hand as it fell to the ground with a thunk.

"You can't do this to me, I'm Bane!"

"And I'm Odin, speaker of the board."

The argument ended with the second member of the board crawling out of the hole.

"Hey everyone, where's Danny?"

The infania was here.

"She took him."

"Well, that means we have to find him."

He rushed over to the mother of all monsters and whispered something in her ear. To my surprise, he just ran away from us to the other side of town.

"Little weirdo."

Odin walked towards the queen and took out a blade.

"What do you plan on doing with that?"

"We need you later, the apocalypse can wait."

The blade went down to the queen's neck before she screamed and disappeared in a flash of light.

"What did you do?"

"I transported her to the moon. She has a history of family up there."

"Why? You could have killed her and became the prime monster. The new monarch of the species."

"I don't care for power, I just joined the board so that I could keep tabs on them."

The man or monster known as Odin crawled back into the ground. Soon enough, the board appeared and Bane was explaining that all of our work was futile because she escaped.

"Thank you for your honesty, Bane."

Snake lady was talking to him and I was close to making another sigil on my dagger or activating the one carved into my chest.

"Come on, we need to get going."

Angela was behind me and was in her twenty six year old self.

"What about Danny, he is the only guy we have on our side."

"We'll get to him later, I need out of here, number six and seven of the strongest monsters in recorded history are about to kill me."

"Good point."

We escaped the diner and made our way home.

"That was a close one."

"Well, I just discovered that I have a creature in my body and that I can control the direction of things."

"I'm sorry that I saved your life."

"No, you didn't save me, you turned my best friend against me and turned me into a freak."

She went to her room and never came back. A few minutes later, Bane arrived back from the talk with his superiors.

"No way you left me alone with most of the board."

"Come back here with Danny."

"Don't worry, I'll find him."

He sat on the porch before I told him to leave.

"I told you that you are not welcome here until Danny is back."

"Please man, I had a long drive and this is the only place for me. Please?"

"No."

He proceeded to beg for a couple minutes before red ribbons appeared around his neck and Angela walked out.

"He told you to leave."

Bane proceeded to leave the porch and slowly walk back to his home, wherever that was.

"Thanks."

"I'm feeling kind of tired."

Her eyes rolled up and her eyelids went down with her body as she hit the floor of the porch.

"Magic is soul poison."

I turned and saw a young woman with a red shirt and white apron on. Her pale skin was a stark contrast to her black hair.

"Mother?"

"Yes, I spent a couple hours on the moon with my kids but you are good for business."

"Bringing upon your demise is good for business?"

She was starting to approach me.

"The board thinks I'm dead, they will hold their little revolution and kill each other."

"You're telling me I got you out of the fate hole that is my curse?"

"Yes, I came by to say thank you and take my child back."

She reached out her hand but she quickly was stopped.

"I think he wants to stay."

The mother balled up her fist and swung it at me but her hand was caught as if someone behind her was holding it back.

"Way, come to mother."

She was slowly being pushed back by the way of the world. Her arms and legs could hold on for only so long.

"You are going back to the moon."

She slowly started to float but a tentacle came and latched onto the ground as she was yelling at me.

"NO!"

"I was saving this."

A tap on my chest and all of a sudden, she was gone and so was my sigil scar.

"What happened?"

Angela had some blood going down her face and from her nose as she was approaching me with a willful walk that was paining with every second.

"I'm taking you to the hospital."

"Nnn…nnn…nice first date."

She collapsed and soon, I was on my way to the land known as the county hospital. In the distance, the sun started to rise. The golden light gleaming down on my body as Angela slowly lost her life to overuse of magic, three spells in the same day. No wonder Danny preferred sigils. Easier to use and no drawbacks.

"I need a doctor!"

They came out to show a bunch of cowboys that had bruises and one even had a broken arm.

"We would love to help her."

"Thanks."

"But you are affiliated with her and we can't risk her being affiliated with you."

The dagger in my back pocket was getting very heavy all of a sudden and I could hear a voice yelling to send these cowboys to the moon with the other monsters.

"No, I will take this woman to the doctors that I know are behind you."

"You're funny mister, we are the doctors."

"Wow, you don't look like someone that would pursue a career that would have brains in the job description."

"We want you out of our hospital and to return the stolen horses."

"I am no horse thief, and I am not going to let you sit there whilst my friend is dying."

"Make us."

They flew against the walls.

"Reconsider."

"We won't."

"Do it."

"Fine."

The grip on them released and soon enough, Angela was on an operating table and an ambulance that had its keys left in it was stolen by me. A few minutes after the crime, I arrived back at my old home and didn't know why.

"Hello sir, I've put your checks into the mailbox but have seen that you've not been checking the mail."

"Yes, can you transport the checks to my new residence at Carpenter junkyard?"

"Very well, your two other checks are in the mailbox over there."

He made his way back to the town whilst I made it for my checks that were well into the tens of thousands of dollars.

"Can I have some?"

Bane was sitting with a sense of childhood glee as I was ripping my checks out of the mailbox as he sat in the ruins of my house.

"No, and I told you to go away."

"Listen man, I need a place to stay."

"Then stay here, I need someone to get rid of the burnt."

"Okay, just until I get enough money for a car."

"Also, do you know those cowboys we met on the road?"

"So, I might need a couple extra dollars to feed my cats and pay the bills."

"Then tell them it was you."

"No, they are weird. A bunch of surgeon cowboys."

Wanting to get out of the conversation, I started to walk away from the man and back to my new ambulance.

"Father, I desire sustenance."

"Who's there?"

Why does a baby's voice sound so masculine?

"You must be the nephew, where is Father?"

The voice was that of a baby, yet I felt as if a man that had been training his voice to sound masculine for centuries was using this kid as a megaphone because of how developed yet young it was.

"I'm Karter, now who are you?"

A baby crawled out from the dinner table and across the hardwood floor to grapple its small hands onto my leg.

"Fenwood."

"Are you a monster or something that I shouldn't obliterate?"

"I'm my father's son."

This is the kind of kids that witches and hunters have? I felt very discouraged from ever having children if I had something with a voice like this in my home. For eighteen years.

"Now what is your father's name?"

"Danny Carpenter."

I thought I was going to laugh or puke.
