Chapter 66 - Afterlife

BB was in eternal darkness. The ground was wet but every time he walked it would be dry as dust when he lifted his foot. So sad, he was alone. He hypothesized about everything and found that he was great at things like forming theories and making plans. But what he needed was to pinpoint where the crew had escaped to and to get back to the land of the living.

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

A man appeared before BB. He was a guardian of the end. Most would say that there was a monster of sorts as they would feel fear in the presence of this creature. Out of some strange drive that made him subconsciously work towards his goals, BB put up two fists and felt at peace.

"If you're looking for a street fight then I'd say that you've already gone through your last."

"How do I get out of here?"

"Simple, you don't. That's until you come to terms with everything that is."

Thank goodness I have a history of grudges. I sense that the device in my brain is broken, that probably means that I have certain things back. He cracked a small smile as he began to plot on how to trick this monster into helping him.

"That's true, you do have your abilities back, but do you notice anything different about this place?"

The undetected detective looked around before realizing the end eyes were gone. This monster was different from anything he'd ever seen before.

"Get back."

Aggressively, the duel of power became as BB began to try and push him back. The guardian of BB had seen that he was a curious case because he was more adventurous than most but to be completely honest, they had all known that this wasn't going to end well for someone.

"Well, if you don't want to play around here then I guess we're going to be sending you to the place you do belong."

Suddenly, papyrus flew from the ground and latched onto BB. He couldn't move and could barely breathe. But that didn't matter since he was where he was. His arms and legs contorted until he was in a fetal position previous to the stone tune collecting him.

"NO!"

"A few thousand years in the box and you'll be more into cooperation."

Quiet was the place until eventually, he found himself in a state of peace. Meditate. The longer it lasts and the more thinking I do the more insane I'll go.

"James, I told you to stay out of here!"

A man in a mask made of white cloth was working behind the desk. He could've blended in with a wall because of how none of his skin was showing and it was covered in pure white clothing that had to cost over thirty-thousand dollars. Joey was indifferent and wanted to be treated for his headache.

"My name isn't James. Are you a doctor or something?"

"Well, this is my office, and I do have a responsibility to serve those in need. So, what brings you to me?"

All of the group was as equally confused as the man. Joey told him about his headache and how he hit his head a few days prior. So, he was given some medicine and walked to the office where he would further be checked out and was given his medicine. When all was said and done, Sears got the bill.

"Aren't you a world leader? Why do I have to pay for everything?"

Scott let out a bellowing laugh at his reaction. This man had been there since day one and still couldn't understand the order of things. He so rarely got into their fights that he found it easier to have Sears pay for everything.

"That's how the world works. Now hopefully you have medicaid."

"I have a veteran's card. Man, this thing is old."

Sears had a hobby of collecting wallets. Nobody questioned it but he had the DA's credit card in his pocket and a veteran's ID that he hadn't used in an eternity.

"When did you get it?"

"Right after I got back from..."

"What year is it?"

"Nineteen ninety-four."

The group discussed amongst themselves whilst the doctor watched in a confused manor. He was going to do something that he would end up regretting for the rest of his life.

"I'm so sorry for the hold up, sir. We tend to get off course. Here's all the money I have at the moment, hopefully, it'll suffice."

That doctor looked down at the money Alexandria left on the table. It was a gold pound. He hadn't seen one of those in almost two hundred years. Something was off with this already off-putting family.

"You know what, I'll take it. Also, if you guys are wondering, there's rooms in the factory out back I'm willing to rent if you're willing to stay."

Scott was suddenly broken from the trance that was the fight with Sears to look at the doctor who was dressed in a weird suit and had a strange mask on.

"What makes you think that we need a place to stay?"

"Just something about the way you people walk and talk tells me y'all don't stay in the same spot for long."

Scott was still in his blue suit, but it had been run through the ringer. He knew he needed to shave a little and Sears had grown too comfortable in his sneaking suit of black and white leather.

"Okay, let's see the rooms first. We could've stayed at the local motel but let's see what we can get for a good price around here."

"Come right this way."

The doctor led them through his clinic and out the back before they reached a small bit of wooden houses near the parking lot of the factory. They were hidden behind some shrubs that doubled as a lawn.

"Not too much square footage. Is there a bathtub?"

"Yes. Why do you ask? The master bedroom is right this way, and I'd love for you to see it."

Scott didn't have a care in the world for the likes of a bed. He wanted the bathtub. That was where he belonged in the world.

"Okay. But I'll go see the bathroom first."
