Chapter 33 - The Magical Convergent Cannon!

— — — — — —

"You think killing me is that easy? You must not know who you're dealing with. I am Erigor the Death God!"

Erigor's eyes darted downward—something in the shadows was moving unnaturally. Danger!

In an instant, he cloaked himself in a howling storm, his massive scythe whirling through the air as countless wind blades tore into the ground around him.

But before he could even catch his breath, a blazing magic beam pierced straight through his storm barrier like it was paper.

It slammed into his shoulder, then a second, third, and fourth shot ripped through his limbs in rapid succession, leaving him crippled.

"Aaaagh!"

His scream echoed briefly before fading. The attack had come too fast—he hadn't even seen it coming. By the time he realized what had happened, it was already over.

As his body fell limp toward the ground, a shadow soldier reached out and dragged him silently into the darkness.

...

(Flashback)

Five seconds ago, back at the station—

"Erigor's not weak," Kazuma mused, glancing toward the horizon. "Ordinary magic rifles wouldn't scratch him, especially at this distance."

He tapped his chin. "Hmm… let's use that new one I picked up."

As he spoke, a massive cannon barrel materialized behind him, hovering in the air and aligning itself at his target far away.

"That—wait, that's a Magical Convergent Cannon!"

Erza stared, completely thrown off. "You can't be serious. That thing's supposed to be installed on fortresses!"

"A what now?" Lucy blinked, staring at the enormous cannon forming behind Kazuma. The sheer pressure of the energy gathering there made her shiver. Whatever that thing was, it screamed overkill.

"The Magical Convergent Cannon," Erza explained quickly, "is a large-scale magic weapon that uses raw magic as ammunition. It can launch high-powered, long-distance attacks that can level fortresses. Normally they're mounted on warships or magic citadels."

She rubbed her temples, disbelief clear in her voice. "It also requires a huge Lacrima crystal to focus power, and even then, it needs ten or fifteen minutes just to charge one shot. How on earth can he—"

"So basically," Lucy cut in, "it's a super powerful magic weapon. But wait, if it's supposed to be mounted on a fortress, can one person even fire it? How much magic power does that take!?"

Before Erza could answer, Kazuma casually fired it.

Four consecutive blasts roared out in less than a second. The recoil wind blasted through the platform, and before the echoes faded, he lowered his hand. "Done. My ninjas will bring him back."

"Wait, what?" Lucy stumbled backward, eyes wide. "Erza, didn't you just say that thing takes like fifteen minutes to charge?"

The explosion shockwave had knocked her clean off her feet. Even with her hands clamped over her ears, her head was ringing.

Erza frowned, just as stunned. "Yes, and the magic required should be more than what even an S-Class mage could muster! I'm starting to think Kazuma isn't even human. Maybe he is a Golem, yes, that makes sense now."

Kazuma sighed. "Hold on, hold on. Did you just demote me from human to golem in one sentence? Come on. It is a Magical Convergent Cannon, sure—but I only used a fraction of its output. Hardly drains any magic at all. Didn't you see how small my shots were?"

Erza and Lucy exchanged looks. Neither seemed convinced.

Kazuma smiled faintly. "Come on. One shot like that wouldn't even hurt you, Erza."

Lucy frowned. "So if one shot wouldn't hurt her... two might? Three for the kill?" She reached out and poked Kazuma's cheek. "You sure you're not some kind of magic machine? You even feel human, but everything you do says otherwise."

"Lucy, cut it out." Kazuma gently caught her hand. "My shadow soldiers are back."

He turned toward Erza, his expression shifting to something more serious. "Miss Erza! We're in the same guild, sure—and this was a private request, but we still have to follow proper procedure."

"Here. I didn't kill Erigor outright. I left him alive so you can verify his identity and question him. Once that's done, I'll finish the job."

With a nod, he gestured toward the shadows. A moment later, a ninja dragged Erigor into the open. His body was covered in blood, his once-proud face reduced to a pitiful mask of pain.

"Kill him? No... let's hand him over to the Magic Council," Erza said firmly. "There's no need for more killing. He can stand trial."

"Let's question him first," Kazuma replied calmly.

Erza nodded and crouched in front of the fallen mage. "Erigor. What were you planning to do with the cursed flute? Who was your target?"

Erigor chuckled darkly. "Heh… heh heh… caught by you, huh? I—"

Bang—

Before he could finish, Kazuma summoned a gun and shot him clean through the arm.

"Aaaaghhh!"

"Just answer the damn question," Kazuma said coldly. "Next time you stall, I'll aim for your head."

The weapon he'd used was no ordinary gun—it tore at the soul itself. The agony hit Erigor instantly, wrenching a raw scream from his throat.

Lucy gasped, hand over her mouth. The infamous "Death God" Erigor—the dark guild's feared killer—was now kneeling in the dirt, trembling and howling in pain, held down by the shadow ninjas.

In that moment, he looked less like a fearsome mage and more like a beaten dog.

Kazuma crouched down slightly, eyes narrowing. "I'll ask you one last time. What was your goal?"

Erigor laughed through clenched teeth, pain twisting his face. "Kill me if you want! I won't tell you a damn thing. But... I'll tell you one thing at least."

His voice cracked, the sound somewhere between madness and pain.

"Judging by those guild marks, you're from Fairy Tail, aren't you? Hehe, you legal mages are all the same—so damn righteous, so proud of your little guilds."

His grin widened, crazed. "But not for long. All your precious guild masters... are going to die soon. Then we'll see how proud you still look! Hehe—"

Before he could perform his villain laugh, Erza's hand shot out and clamped around his throat. Her eyes were cold as steel, her killing intent heavy enough to choke the air.

Author's Note:

To clarify a few points: first, remember that in Chapter 1 it was mentioned that Kazuma's magic is the Gate of Babylon, which was later upgraded to contain treasures from many worlds.

Second, in the original lore, it's made very clear that the owner of the treasury doesn't actually know everything that's inside it. Considering how vast Kazuma's treasury has become after the upgrade—now including weapons from other worlds—he needs a point of reference to retrieve anything. In other words, he can only summon an item if he's seen it, used it, or at least recognized it in the outside world. Without that reference, finding a specific weapon inside is nearly impossible. After that, whether he can summon it or not depends on his level.

Also, just to be clear: Gate of Babylon is Kazuma's unique magic—it's not a Gilgamesh template. You can tell from how he mainly uses guns rather than the typical weapons Gilgamesh would favor.
