Allison skipped home bubbling with joy, the evening breeze stroking her face. She could not believe it. She just could not take in that she had not only become a contracted writer, but that her biggest dream was also at the verge of coming through. Her dream of even having to speak to her best friend's very famous brother, not to say, write a spin-off of his book. Her even more bigger imagination might come through. Romance with him.
She entered into her family's little cramped apartment. They had lived here for years. It was very uncomfortable, But, they had to cope. As she stepped in, she perceived the smell of burning eggs.
Her eyes adjusted to the darkness of the room. The house was dark because they had obviously not paid their light bill. and she saw her mother in front of the cabinet they called their kitchen.
"Mama." She called as she approached her.
Her mother turned to face her. A big smile plastered on her face.
"Hey baby" she replied. "You are just in time. I'm making dinner."
She tilted her head. "Dinner?" She asked. This did not look like every other dinner, but luxury dinner.
"I am going to sign a contract soon mama" she said. It had always been this way. They confided in each other about their plans. Jer mother looked puzzled
"What contract baby?" She asked he4 voice tinted with a little bit of worry.
"I have been given a webnovel contract. And also I might get to write a spin-off of one of Carl's brother's book. I just need to get his approval." She said and watched her mother eyes fill with proud tears for her daughter. She moved closer and hugged.
"I'll call you when dinner is ready" her mother called to her as she pulled away and walked to her room.
She walked steadily to her room although her head treathened to fall off. She had to make mama proud. That was her main priority. And the best way to do that was to make money. Carl had taught her that.
She walked into her small cramped room, dropped her bag on the floor and walked to her little table. The one dad had got for her as a child before the divorce. She sighed. She did not want to think about that right now.
She settled down on the table and opened her novel app. She scenes through the details of her book. No views. No collections. Her book was obviously not getting any attention. But that would not discourage her, it would make her want to work harder.
She bent over her desk and wrote. Her back stooped over her cell phone, she wrote chapters after chapters. She wrote oblivious of her surrounding. Oblivious of the little rat nibbling at some papers at the far end of the room, or the light in the other apartments next to theirs.
Her phone beeped. She looked at it and took the call.
"Hey dude" she said.
"Start writing your proposal now. And then youforward it to me so i can review it." Carl said on the other side of the line not bother to greet.
"What proposal?" She asked. She had to be sure.
"Your proposal to my brother. I had a word with him. He is interested and would like to have a meeting with us. So let's work on our proposal. The meeting is tommorow." He explained.
"Tommorow?" She exclaimed looking at her watch. It was already past ten in the night. How the hell could she write a proposal in such a short notice?.
