ELENA POV
Day Two started the same way. I only had two outfits approved for trial. Breakfast I couldn't eat.
"You look tired," the guard said. "Didn't sleep?"
"Not much."
"It'll get better. Just gotta push through."
I didn't believe her.
The transport van. The crowds outside the courthouse even bigger today. More signs. More chanting.
Inside the holding cell, Martina was waiting.
He looked tired too. Dark circles under his eyes.
"How are you holding up?" he asked.
"I'm not. Yesterday was brutal."
"I know. But today might be worse." He pulled out his notes. "Thornton is calling character witnesses. People who'll testify about your relationship with your father, your mother's fugitive status, your association with Damien."
"They're going to make me look like a criminal's daughter."
"Yes. That's exactly what they're going to do. And you need to sit there and take it without reacting."
"I don't know if I can."
