Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: James Atraxia.

"Father looking for me?" Marcus asked with curiosity.

"Yes." The guard replied.

"Alright." Marcus immediately walked out his chair and followed the guard.

While walking to meet his father, Marcus couldn't help but ask out of curiosity, "Why did Father suddenly look for me?"

"I don't know either, but I heard that it might be important." The guard replied.

After walking for a while, they passed a corridor and arrived at a double bronze door with a sliver-like belt in the middle of the door.

The guard bowed slightly and said, "Lord, is waiting for you inside the room."

Marcus nodded his head and pushed open the double broken door. Inside the room there is a desk on the right side of the room, with a wooden chair. On the left side of the room is a bookshelf filled with strange books; some books had human skin on them, some had leather skin on them. Others had symbols and patterns on them. On the ceiling hung a chandelier, which illuminated the room with an orange light. On the floor, there are red and gold carpets.

Sitting on the desk is a man in his forties with a thick black beard, messy black hair. On his right eye is a tiny scar; he gives off a feeling of wisdom and knowledge.

Marcus bent his back slightly and bowed to the man sitting on the desk, "Father, why did you summon me?"

Maverick gave his son a look and said with a gentle tone, "Yes, I summoned you today to ask a few questions."

Marcus was stunned on the spot, because every time he attended his class, he didn't pay much attention to the professor's teaching, and every time in the class, he always always slept and imagined a superhero.

Now when hearing his father gonna ask a question, he broke into sweating, he immediately imagined himself being punished. Like standing on one lag and had a book on his head, or his father didn't allow him to eat.

"Don't worry, I'm not asking you a question that corresponds to your lesson in class." Maverick said with a calm tone.

Father didn't ask questions at class, then what it is…Marcus couldn't help but ask, "Then what questions do you want to ask?"

"Do you know about our family origin?"

"Of course, I know."

Marcus didn't let Maverick continue; he immediately said, "Our family is one of the eight ancient families. We have a history of 2000 years. Atraxia has been named by our ancestors."

Maverick looks at Marcus for a second, and the two of them slightly look at each other. In awkward situations Marcus didn't know what to do or what to say. With a thought. he immediately looked at his father and broke the silence, "Actually, there is more. but I for…forgot."

Upon hearing this, Maverick turned to the left side of the room and walked toward the bookshelf. He raised his right hand and took out one book from there.

The book had red and golden in colour, and there are mystery symbols in the middle of the book, covered in leather skin. There are titles on top of the symbols, the titles are The History of Atraxia.

After that, he put the book on the desk and looked at Marcus who was confused by his father's action. "This book contains our family history, and our origin. Read it."

Marcus looked at the book, and moved his eye slightly to his Father with a smile he said, "Father can I read it in my room?"

"Alright, tonight at 7 come to my room."

"Yes, Father." Marcus replied.

"You may leave,"

Marcus bowed slightly and turned around to leave.

With one hand holding the book, Marcus walked along the corridor to his room, along the way he thought:

Why does Father suddenly summon me and give me this book…at this moment, a young man appears in front of him.

He had slightly curly hair, with brown eyes, and black eyebrows. His nose is tall, he was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

On his right hand is a bandage. On his head also had a bandage, he appeared rather in a sorry state.

Upon seeing this young man a flash of joy appeared on Marcus face, "Woah… you look like a mummy described in the novel."

"Actually, if your entire body is filled with bandages it might look cool."

The one who was appearing in front of Marcus was James Atraxia, who was Marcus's best friend, and he was also influenced by Marcus and became obsessed with superheroes in the novel.

Every time in class, this duo always talks about superheroes or novels. Even when they were punished and kicked out of the class, they still talked about novels and other things but, not far from superheroes.

"I heard that you were attempting to fly," Marcus asked. There is clearly a trace of amazingness in his tone.

"That's right, I wore the black cape that superheroes usually wear, and climbed the big tree in the garden. When I reached the peak, my instinct told me that if I were to jump from the peak, I would see a god."

"Whoa…You see a god, what is the god wearing? A black cape like a superhero?"

Marcus asks with an excited expression.

"No, I didn't jump from the peak. When I attempted to climb down, I suddenly lost my stability and fell from the tree."

Without waiting for Marcus's response, he continued, "That time I lost my consciousness. Later, when I open my eyes, I see myself in the healing hall. That time I couldn't move at all; even a slight bit of movement would break my bones."

Marcus's expression turned stunning upon hearing this, and he said, "I thought you were already seeing a god."

James' mouth twisted slightly. He shifted his gaze, landing on the book that Marcus was holding. He pointed to the book and said, "Is it a novel? you got a new novel?"

"No, it was The History of Atraxia that my father gave to me for reading," Marcus replied.

"Your father gave that to you?"

"Yes."

Without waiting for James to ask, he asked with curiosity, "Why did Father summon me, and suddenly give me this book?"

"What did your father ask you about before giving you that book?"

Marcus looked at the book and said, "He asked me about the origin of our family."

James seemed to understand something and didn't ask any further.

After a moment of silence, James suddenly said, "Come to my room, I recently gained an insight from the novel I've read."

"Gained an insight?" Marcus with curiosity.

"Yes, I designed a rope from a novel that I've read. When I climbed the tree back then, I wore that rope, and when I fell," James said excitedly.

"Thus, you wore that rope, because you thought that it might bring you the ability to fly?"

"Yeah, it was my thought before I attempted to jump from the peak, but now I had another thought that a cape might reduce damage when falling."

Marcus, "..."

"Actually, if you were to jump from the peak, it might reduce your falling damage; at the same time, you might be able to meet god too," Marcus said after a moment of silence.

James, "..."

The two of them looked at each other for a long time; no one spoke, they just stood there looking into each other's eyes. Suddenly, a young girl came from nowhere and appeared behind Jame.

She grabs James's shoulder. Jame, who was looking at Marcus, jumped in fright. He looked at the one who grabbed his shoulder and exclaimed, "Lilian, can you appear like a normal human? every time you appear, it feels like an evil god is about to descend."

Lilian looked at him and said with a mock tone, "I thought you were a hero that didn't fear anything, but it turned out that you were just a coward."

"Who told you that superheroes didn't have any fear?"

"It was Marcus who told me that the hero didn't fear anything." Lilian said while pointing her right index finger toward Marcus.

"Ehh…I didn't say that." Marcus blurted.

"It's you who told me."

The three of them continued their urge. After a while, the three of them suddenly sank into silence, and they exchanged looks with each other. It was as if they were preparing to engage in an intense battle.

No one spoke until Marcus broke the silence, "Why did you suddenly come here?"

"I nearly forgot that my goal is to ask the two of you if you're interested in magic."

Marcus suddenly blurted, "Magic?"

"Yes," Lilian replied with seriousness.

Upon hearing this, Marcus and James exchange looks, in their eye there is excitement and desire to know more about magic.

Without waiting for Marcus to continue asking, James asked, "How did you know magic?"

In this world, where magic exists, there are countless things that can't be explained with common sense.

But magic is only known to some families and some organisations; there are also an extremely large number of humans who aren't aware of the magic.

Because of this, humans who are aware of magic besides the ancient family and organisation are extremely rare, especially those who can reach a high level.

Magic is also mysterious; no one knows where it comes from or how it works. Some ancient families come up with various theories,

But no one knows who is the correct one.

At the same time, each family had their own unique magic, likewise for some organisations.

Those who have magic have been called The magician.

For magicians who have different powers that can't be described by common sense, they can be described as half-god.

Lilian thought for a second and said, "I don't know either, I've seen a book, and in that book, there is a piece of paper, and in that paper, there is a mysterious symbol, and there are also descriptions on how to use it."

She paused for a moment and said with seriousness, "If you are interested, don't ask any further, just follow me."

"Yes, I am very interested," Marcus and James said in unison.

"But doing that might violate our family role; if the hall of command knows that we violated the role, we will receive a punishment," Marcus said with a solemn expression.

Because of the existence of magic, countless roles start to appear. There is one role in the atraxia family that only by turning tenth can one learn of magic and experience it.

"Who told you that we were gonna do it publicly?" Lilian said.

Without waiting for the two of them to respond, Lilian turned around and said, "Don't worry, just follow me."

Upon seeing Lilian walking away, the two of them exchanged looks, which were clearly excited in their eyes.

They quickly caught up to Lilian, who walked away. After they caught up to Lilian, Marcus couldn't help but ask, "What kind of magic are you gonna show us?"

"Like I said, I didn't know what kind of magic; I just read it through the content of a book in the library."

"What?" Marcus and James suddenly blurted out.

"I hear from my brother, the book that contains magic is only in the hall of knowledge," Marcus said.

"Yes, the library only had an ordinary book." James continued.

"Can the two of you just be quiet? If everyone hears what the two of you are saying, we might be doomed," Lilian suddenly retorted.

Marcus and James quickly shut their mouths.

The three of them continue walking silently.

James looks at Lilian back and whispers to Marcus, who was beside him, "Hey! Did you know where Lilian is gonna perform the magic?"

"Based on my knowledge when reading various novels, I think she might perform the magic in an extremely secret place that might be known only to her," Marcus said like an experienced man.

"Who says that reading novels is wasted? look at this situation now, we can guess without needing any clue," James said with a smile on his face.

After walking for five minutes, Lilian suddenly said, "Here we reach our destination."

Marcus and James, who were behind her, looked ahead and exclaimed,

"Is this the extremely secret place where you're gonna perform magic?"

"Yes," Lilian replied.

Without waiting for them to respond, she continued, "My room is the best place to experience magic"
