(VALENTINO'S POV)
The sun's setting as I cruise down the streets of Vegas. My dashboard clock reads 6:52.
Good, I'm not late. Angelo can't complain. Not that he won't try.
The car screen lights up with an incoming call.
It's Krystal.
I feel my mouth tug into a smile before I even hit accept.
"Hey," she says softly.
"Miss me already?" I tease.
"What if I say yes? Would you turn around and come right back?"
I chuckle under my breath. "Why would you want me to do that? Didn't you say this whole family dinner thing was a brilliant idea?"
"Yeah… I know." Her voice dips. She sounds distracted. "I just… I gave it more thought and I couldn't help picturing everything that could go wrong." There's a pause before she says, "Raffaele is gonna be there after all."
"And so?" I say, even though her tone is already rubbing the back of my neck the wrong way.
"He's dangerous, Val."
"I'm dangerous too."
