Emil raised his eyebrows, waiting for his explanation.
"You know what I said before, the company's employees all have some special abilities."
William's lips curved into a smile.
"Tandy can control light and heat, and Tyrone can absorb light and matter. If we combine these two abilities..."
"You want that kid to eat away the rock formations at the bottom of the river?"
Emil's voice carried a hint of surprise.
"Not entirely."
William shook his head and said, "Tyrone's abilities are limited. He can't work underwater for long, and devouring so much matter would put too much strain on his body."
He walked to the window, looking at the distant lights of Manhattan, "But we have another option."
Emil followed him, waiting for his explanation.
"Portals."
William turned around, his eyes sparkling with excitement, "If we can find someone who masters spatial teleportation..."
"You mean, directly establish a teleportation channel between here and the opposite bank?"
Emil's gaze sharpened, "The master of this ability is not something you can buy at a roadside stall."
"Indeed not."
William's smile became even more mysterious.
"But coincidentally, I might know where to find such a person."
He walked back to his desk, picked up a tablet, and his fingers quickly swiped through the information on the screen.
"Kamar-Taj."
William read out the name.
"One of the oldest organizations of magic users in the World. Their Sorcerer Supreme masters the highest mysteries of spatial magic."
"Sorcerer Supreme?"
"Simply put, it's to protect the World's peace and defend Earth from alien invasions."
Emil's expression became complicated.
As a special forces soldier trained strictly according to scientific logic, the word "magic" was almost synonymous with "nonsense" to him.
"magic users?" His tone carried obvious doubt, "Are you sure you're not joking?"
"I wish it were a joke more than you do."
William sighed.
"But in this World, there's Iron Man, there's Hulk, there's Spider-Man, a few more magic users isn't anything Strange."
He pointed to a location on the screen, an old building in New York.
"The Sanctum. Kamar-Taj's base in New York. If we can persuade them to help..."
"Wait."
Emil interrupted him.
"You said 'persuade'? How do you plan to persuade a group of magic users who wield supernatural powers to dig an escape tunnel for you?"
William's smile became a little wicked, "That's my specialty. Everyone has needs, everyone has pain points. magic users are no exception."
He sat back in his chair, his fingers rapidly typing something on the tablet.
"Although those magic users are powerful, they also have troubles. For example, they need to constantly protect Earth from threats from other dimensions. And this protection often comes at a cost."
"You mean..."
"Insurance."
William's eyes gleamed with the shrewdness unique to a businessman.
"Imagine, if I could provide Kamar-Taj with a 'Interdimensional Threat Combat Loss Insurance' policy, covering personnel casualties of magic users in combat, maintenance costs for the Sanctum, and even various accidents caused by timeline disruptions..."
Emil's eyes widened, "You want to sell insurance to magic users?"
"Why not?"
William said righteously.
"They are also people, and they also need protection. Moreover, the risk factor for magic users is even higher than for superheroes. They face not ordinary Terrorists or alien invasions, but evil entities from other dimensions."
He paused, then added, "More importantly, if I can establish a cooperative relationship with Kamar-Taj, we will have an extremely powerful ally."
Emil was silent for a long time, finally shaking his head.
"Your idea is crazy. But..."
He looked at William, his gaze becoming serious.
"If you can really do it, this is indeed a perfect solution."
"So, the question now is, how do we get in touch with them?"
"Strange."
William read out the name.
"Dr. Stephen Strange. A top neurosurgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital."
Emil frowned.
"A Doctor? What does that have to do with magic users?"
"Business secret."
William waved his hand.
"The point is, if we can offer him some help when he's desperate..."
"You want to make a move when he's at his weakest?"
Emil's tone carried a hint of disdain.
"That's despicable."
"Not despicable, it's an opportunity."
William shook his head.
"We can genuinely help him. Imagine, if we could provide him with a 'Professional Accident Injury Insurance' policy, covering his medical expenses and rehabilitation costs..."
"And then?"
"Then, when he becomes a magic user, we'll have a powerful ally who owes us a favor."
William's smile became brilliant.
"That's the charm of long-term investment."
Emil was silent for a long time, finally sighing.
He felt his boss was a little abnormal.
"Also," William added, "even if the plan with Dr. Stephen Strange takes time, we can simultaneously make other preparations."
"Such as?"
"For example, we can first have Tandy and Tyrone do some preliminary exploration work at the bottom of the river. Although they can't completely clear the tunnel, they can at least choose a suitable location for a future portal."
Emil nodded; this idea was quite practical.
"Also," William continued, "we can build some additional defensive facilities on the island."
"Not to fight S.H.I.E.L.D., that would only make things worse. We need to deal with other potential threats."
Emil's gaze became appreciative, "That's a good idea. You want me to be responsible for this part of the work?"
"If you're willing." William nodded, "You're the expert in this area."
Emil was silent for a moment, then slowly nodded, "I can do a detailed security assessment and then formulate a corresponding defense plan."
"Excellent." William's face showed a satisfied smile, "It seems our 'North Brother Island Renovation Project' is about to be fully launched."
Just then, there was a sudden knock on the office door.
The door opened, and Tandy and Tyrone walked in.
Both young people looked a little nervous, especially Tyrone, whose face was filled with apprehension.
"Boss," Tandy began, "we want to talk to you about what happened today."
William raised his eyebrows, "What happened?"
"About Spider-Man."
Tyrone mustered his courage and said, "Did... did we mess something up?"
Looking at the nervous expressions of the two employees, William suddenly laughed.
"Messed up?" He shook his head, "On the contrary, you did very well."
