Chapter 14 - First Day at Desai Corporation

The morning sunlight streamed through the large glass windows of the Desai Corporation Headquarters, casting a golden glow over the modern lobby. Mukul walked through the polished floors with a mix of excitement and nerves. Today was his first day at the family company — a place he had only heard about in stories from Shreya and his parents, but now he was finally here.

Shreya walked beside him, her heels clicking confidently on the marble floor. "Don't worry, Mukul," she said, smiling. "Everyone here knows you're coming, but they haven't met you in person yet. Just be yourself."

Mukul nodded, straightening his shirt and adjusting his posture. "I'll try, Didi. I just want to understand everything and contribute."

They entered a large office where a group of employees were waiting. Some were executives, while others were managers and assistants. Everyone's eyes turned toward Mukul as he stepped in, and a few whispered to each other, curious about the boy who had suddenly joined the company.

Shreya stepped forward. "Everyone, this is Mukul Desai. He is our family's son and will be joining the team. Treat him like you would me — and help him understand our processes."

Mukul bowed slightly to the group, keeping his expression humble. "Good morning. I look forward to learning from all of you and contributing in any way I can."

The group nodded politely, some still sceptical about the young boy in front of them. But Mukul didn't have time to worry about first impressions. He had already memorised the company's structure, its ongoing projects, and even the current financial reports from Shreya's briefing the night before.

Shreya handed him a tablet. "Here, Mukul. These are some current projects and reports. I want you to review them and give me your insights by the afternoon."

Mukul accepted the tablet and quietly began scrolling through the data. His eyes moved rapidly, analysing numbers, strategies, and progress. Within minutes, he had already identified inefficiencies in the supply chain and suggested improvements in production scheduling.

"Hmm," Mukul murmured, tapping the screen. "If we adjust the vendor allocation and streamline the delivery schedule, we can reduce costs by at least 8–10% and improve production efficiency."

An executive frowned. "That's impressive… for someone your age. But are you sure about these calculations?"

Mukul smiled confidently. "Yes. I double-checked everything. Also, I've prepared a small model showing how the change would affect overall profit and resource allocation." He tapped a few more times on the tablet, and a neat visual presentation appeared, showing the projected improvement clearly.

Shreya's eyes widened slightly, impressed. "Wow, Mukul… that's excellent. Everyone, listen to this. This is why I said he's not an ordinary boy."

The room went silent for a moment, everyone examining the tablet and Mukul's work. Some of the senior executives exchanged glances, clearly surprised at the depth of his understanding.

Mukul continued, calmly explaining, "Also, we can integrate a small AI tool to predict demand fluctuations, which will allow the logistics team to adjust in real-time. It's a minor investment upfront but will save much more in operational costs."

One of the senior managers, Mr Kapoor, leaned forward. "You've really thought this through. And… you've considered all departments? Logistics, production, finance?"

Mukul nodded. "Yes. It's important to look at the company as a whole, not just one part. Everything is connected."

Shreya beamed with pride. "This is why Mukul is part of the family. Not just our blood, but our mind, our vision."

After a few hours, Mukul had already gone through multiple reports, identified solutions to ongoing problems, and even proposed a new workflow to improve team coordination. The employees who were initially sceptical now looked at him with respect and amazement.

During lunch, Shreya whispered to him, "Mukul, you've already impressed everyone. But don't show them everything at once. Take it slow."

Mukul nodded, smiling softly. "Didi, I understand. I want to help, not overwhelm them."

As the day went on, Mukul moved between departments, quietly observing and giving suggestions. His knowledge of business, technology, and strategy made him stand out. But what impressed everyone most was his humility — he didn't boast about his abilities; instead, he worked alongside others, earning their trust.

By the evening, Shreya gathered everyone in the main conference hall. "I think it's clear to all of us that Mukul has a special talent," she announced. "He's not just our family; he's a valuable part of this company. Let's support him and learn from him as he learns from us."

Mukul looked around at the employees, feeling proud but also deeply humbled. He remembered his days of struggling in the village, working small jobs, and secretly running his first businesses. Now, he was here — not just as a member of the Desai family, but as someone ready to shape the future of the company with the knowledge he had accumulated over his reborn life.

As they left the office together, Shreya nudged him playfully. "See, Mukul? You survived your first day in the corporate jungle. And you did it your way."

Mukul laughed softly. "Thanks, Didi. Tomorrow, I'll learn even more." He looked at the glowing city outside, the sun setting over the skyline. For the first time in a long time, he felt the thrill of being part of something bigger — a family, a legacy, and a future he was ready to create.

And deep inside, he knew this was only the beginning. The Desai Corporation was his playground now, but the world beyond, the enemies he had yet to face, and the promises he had made to protect everyone — those awaited him in the days to come.
