Chapter 17 - The Devil's Influence

Godwine and Elias walk down the alleyway searching for Celina with Katelyn following behind. But unlike Celina no voice ever tries to speak to them when they walk near the door with the marking.

Elias is the one who notices it saying nothing as Godwine continues to walk for a few seconds. Eventually Elias says something about the door as Katelyn reaches him. "Yo Godwine this door's got that marking we've been seeing," Elias shouts at Godwine as he opens the door slowly. He reels backwards as the smell of blood suddenly fills his nostrils. "Damn this must be the right way smells like tons of things died."

Godwine walks past Elias as he coughs. Godwine storms up the stairs seeing the sea of corpses Celina left behind drenched in blood. Yet he is uninterested as he brings his hand to his head as if in pain as the sound of a ticking tock fills his mind.

"Tick tock Godwine," a voice speaks to him yet just as quickly as it spoke it stopped.

Elias and Katelyn stand behind him Elias resting his hand on Godwine's shoulder. "Hey you ok man? Is something up?" Elias walks around in front of him as Katelyn walks past searching the bodies before she notices the wardrobe moved to the side and the staircase downwards. As Katelyn shakes her head slowly walking down the dimly lit staircase Godwine takes his hand off his head standing straight. Elias steps back as Godwine starts to follow after Katelyn silently. Elias, his face filled with confusion, watches before following slowly behind.

As they reach the end of the stairs a spear stays lodged into one of the stairs. More corpses of different rebels lay on the ground. The three of them exchange a look before walking past the door Celina had opened and then they see the many different hallways. With every fifth step there seemed to be another hallway, some long some short, but most were simply dead ends. Rebels laid scattered throughout the different hallways blood soaked on the floor. Katelyn investigates the bodies turning some over and taking notes of the different types of cuts and stabs. As they walk deeper down the hallways eventually Elias steps into a puddle of water. As it splashes he looks down and sees a blooded tint in the water.

"Guys over here I found her!" Elias shouts as he notices Celina laying on the ground, her eyes closed. There are wounds and cuts on her right side, blood dripping from a few cuts, yet her left is simply bloody without any cuts, bruises or wounds of any kind. Elias leans down checking if Celina is still breathing. He sighs with relief as he sees she is still breathing. Godwine and Katelyn run over watching as Elias throws Celina's arm over his shoulder slowly getting her limp body off the floor.

Godwine's eyes widen as he sees the lack of wounds on her left. He looks down the hallways seeing if anyone remains but all he is left with is corpses.

"So this is what those trouble makers have been doing," the woman who gave them the contract walks towards the four of them observing the different hallways. "I will be joining you all from here on in," the woman leaves no room for the four to refuse as she walks up to Elias looking at Celina. "So someone from Krus who is actually willing to assist others," she chuckles slightly as she turns her gaze to Elias. "My name is Agnes and I am the daughter of the count of the Szlis county."

Godwine watches clearly off put as Elias matches Agnes's gaze. Katelyn stands away from them looking at the walls instead feeling them. "This place must've been made long ago," Katelyn turns around looking at the supports that scatter the hallways. "Was there a mine or something formally underneath Klish?"

Agnes ignores Katelyn as she turns looking at Godwine. "Are these two aware that this one has a long standing deal with a devil?" As Agnes finishes her sentence Elias's eyes grow wide as his head snaps looking at Celina. Katelyn scoffs as she shakes her head.

Godwine grits his teeth as he looks at Agnes then at Katelyn and Elias. "It was not necessary for them to know that," Godwine steels himself as he answers the question.

"Oh but it is necessary. From what I can tell it has been a deal made long enough ago that the devil is beginning to interact with her and show itself," Agnes walks closer to Godwine as Elias slowly sets Celina back on the floor. "Do you think she will resist the envy of the tails when the time comes?"
