Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10: THE OMINOUS WHISTLING

As they arrived back at the police station, Decker and Alvin headed straight to the IT department to run the faces through the database. The IT officers agreed to run the five faces, but cautioned that it might take some time to get a match. A short while later, the IT team had results and sent them to Decker and Alvin's computers. They opened the files and read the information provided.

"Here's the information on your suspects, detectives. Enjoy," a message from the IT department read. "From your friends in I.T. P.S. Thanks for the special blend, aka hot box, Detective Alvin."

"Alvin! you're going to turn the whole department into alcoholics," Decker said, rolling his eyes.

"Ah! My Good man, I have no idea as to what you speak of. Alvin said with a chuckle.

Then They began to review the suspect profiles:

"It looks like Christmas came early! We need to put out an APB on these guys and boom, case closed," Decker said with a smile.

"Hold on there, Santa Claus! We still need to catch them first and get them to confess before we can close this case," Alvin said with a sigh.

"You're right, I just got a little excited. But let's get this ball rolling!" Decker exclaimed enthusiastically.

Just then, a supervisor from the IT department, her name tag read Kimberley Harrison, approached Decker and Alvin's desk.

"Detectives, did you watch all of the CCTV footage?" she asked.

"We're still going through it," Decker replied. "What did you find?"

"We just finished watching it, and I have to say, it's disturbing," Kimberley said, her voice laced with unease. "To be honest, I'm a little shaken by it." A chill ran down her spine as she spoke.

Then she walked over to Alvin's side and pulled up the CCTV footage on his monitor.

As they watched the footage, Kimberley fast-forwarded it to the 1:50 a.m. timestamp.

"What are we looking for, exactly?" Alvin asked, his eyes fixed on the screen.

Kimberley's eyes narrowed as she spoke. "Just keep watching till the time hits 2 a.m."

Decker leaned in, his interest piqued. "Let's take a closer look."

The timestamp read 2 a.m. and the screens went dark, plunging the room into an unsettling silence. For 20 minutes, the only sound was static. Then, the cameras flickered back to life, revealing a bloodbath. People lay motionless on the floor, their bodies twisted in unnatural positions. The auto shop was silent, except for one haunting sound - the faint, cheerful tune of someone whistling.

"Wow! okay, I am glad we don't have to deal with that. That is the FBI'S Problem now. Decker said with a sneer

"Yeah, let them deal with the bureaucratic red tape," Alvin chimed in, rolling his eyes in agreement with Decker.

Just then, Captain Larcon shouted, "Shawn Decker, Alvin WinCo, in my office now!"

Decker sighed, "Twice in one day. I hope it's not another case."

"Yeah, me too. This morning's been crazy enough already," Alvin said with a frown.

Looks like the captain's got some more work for them!

As they entered the captain's office, Decker and Alvin were greeted by the sergeant and two FBI agents. One of them was familiar - Special Agent Peter Wayne, whom they had just met that morning.

"Captain," Decker said, nodding. "Sergeant. Agents."

Agent Wayne's expression was professional, but Decker sensed a hint of familiarity, given their earlier meeting.

"Let's get down to business," Captain Larcon said, likely about to brief them on the task at hand.

"Alright, let's get started," Captain Larcon said. "The FBI has taken over the Auto Shop Slaughter Case, and Agent Wayne has requested your assistance, Decker and WinCo."

Agent Wayne nodded. "We need your help tracking down leads and piecing together what happened. We've got a complex case, and every hour counts."

Decker raised an eyebrow. "What makes you think we're the right guys for this? We've already got our own cases to work on."

Alvin chimed in, "Yeah, and isn't the FBI taking over supposed to mean you handle it? What's the real reason you need our help?"

Agent Wayne leaned forward, his expression serious. "Let's just say we could use some fresh eyes on this one. And your...particular set of skills."

"The two of you are the best detectives out here. Closed more than 15 cases, that's a good record.

"Flattery will get you nowhere try again," Alvin said crossing his arms in front his chest with a sneer.

Agent Wayne smiled slightly. "Not flattery, Detective WinCo. I've reviewed your work. You and Decker have an impressive solve rate. We could use that expertise on this case."

Decker leaned back, his expression unreadable. "I think Alvin's asking what's in it for us, Agent Wayne. What aren't you telling us?"
