Chapter 162: Unable to Distinguish Reality from Illusion
Heavy panting echoed in his ears, making all sounds distort.
His chest felt crushed by an invisible hand. His heart pounded wildly against his ribs, sending waves of sharp pain through his chest cavity.
His lungs contracted violently, burning as if about to explode, pain like needles stabbing.
Trees on both sides retreated rapidly backward. Thick trunks connected into a blurred dark green barrier in his vision.
Branches scraped across his face, leaving burning stinging pain.
Obito's eyes stared unblinkingly ahead, his feet never stopping as he ran forward frantically.
That expanding patch of light between the tree shadows was the only redemptive light in his heart at this moment.
Finally, he burst to the forest's edge, leaping forward, crossing the boundary between light and shadow.
But the next second, his breathing suddenly caught in his throat. His pupils contracted to pinpoints instantly.
Not far ahead, Kakashi raised his right hand high, dragging piercing lightning as he thrust heavily toward Rin's chest.
"No—"
Obito screamed. His body seemed to teleport, crossing the distance between them. His right arm swung up—a stabbing sound—piercing through Rin's chest, lifting her body up like a spear pointing diagonally toward the sky.
Blood sprayed down like a fountain, falling directly on Obito's face and body.
"Obito..." Rin bled from all seven orifices, tears in her eyes, looking down at Obito with agonized eyes.
But strangely, at this moment, looking at Rin dying miserably before him, Obito's mind was completely blank. He didn't feel the expected pain.
"Everything is fake. This is just a dream." Obito murmured to himself.
With Obito's murmuring, the surrounding space suddenly shattered. A familiar small room appeared before Obito once more.
"I knew it. This is just a dream—a trick that bastard Yasushi played on me."
"I could never hurt Rin. Never!"
Obito muttered to himself, curling his body tighter.
Creak!
The door opened. Someone pushed in.
Obito didn't raise his head, still immersed in his own world.
"Obito..." A gentle voice suddenly sounded by his ear, making Obito's body freeze instantly. His entire heart seemed to stop beating.
"Obito, Lord Yasushi sent me to check on you. He says you should pull yourself together—he has tasks for you later..."
"Rin!" Obito looked up excitedly. Sure enough, he saw Rin standing alive before his bed, looking at him with worried eyes.
"Rin, you're okay!"
"Yes. Lord Yasushi saved me."
"Wonderful!" Obito hurriedly rolled out of bed, pulling Rin into his embrace.
"Rin, let's escape immediately!"
"Leave this place!"
"Let that bastard Yasushi go to hell!"
"We'll find a remote village to hide in and never concern ourselves with the shinobi world again!"
These words had been brewing in Obito's heart for who knows how long. Now finally having a chance to pour them out, they came like machine gun fire, nonstop.
Who knew his hot face would meet Rin's cold shoulder. Rin simply shook her head.
"No good!"
"Obito, Lord Yasushi still has things for you to do. How can you run away?"
"What?!" Obito was shocked, hurriedly examining Rin's body carefully. "Rin, did that bastard Yasushi control you with genjutsu? How could you say such things?"
"I'm not controlled by genjutsu!" Rin said leisurely. "The reason I won't leave with you is because I'm already pregnant with Lord Yasushi's child!"
Saying this, Rin pulled her coat open to both sides, revealing her naked body beneath.
Under the lamplight, Obito discovered with shock that Rin's belly had become round and swollen—clearly looking ten months pregnant.
Obito screamed, sitting up abruptly, gasping in heavy breaths.
Still shaken, he looked around frantically. Seeing the familiar room empty except for himself, he finally breathed out in relief, cursing bitterly:
"That bastard Yasushi!"
"Using these disgusting nightmares to torture me every day!"
"I must rescue Rin from his hands soon!"
The door opened again. Another person pushed in.
Obito jumped in fright. When he looked up, he saw it was Zetsu. Only then did he relax slightly.
"What happened to you?" Zetsu looked at him strangely.
"No, nothing." Obito wiped the expression from his face, coldly turning his head away.
"Hmm, I actually came to tell you good news! But you don't seem interested!"
"Good news?" Obito's heart jumped involuntarily. He asked urgently: "What good news?"
"I found Rin's location and already rescued her. She's outside right now."
"Rin!" Obito was immediately overjoyed. He leapt from the bed, rushing out the door in two or three steps. Sure enough, he saw Rin standing outside smiling sweetly at him.
"Rin, you're okay—that's wonderful!" Obito hurried forward, hugging Rin tightly, tears streaming down.
"Obito..." Rin reached out, also embracing Obito, smiling as she said: "Obito, I also have good news to tell you!"
"What good news?" Obito smiled, wiping away tears, looking hopefully at Rin. But he saw Rin smile slightly, pull her coat open to both sides, revealing her naked body beneath and that familiar round belly.
"Congratulations, Obito. You're going to be a godfather!"
"I'm now pregnant with Lord Yasushi's child and will carry on the Uchiha bloodline!"
Obito's expression froze. His whole person went rigid.
After a moment of silence, veins bulged on Obito's forehead. His right arm swung, piercing through the heart of the "Rin" before him.
"This is another damn nightmare!"
Obito waved his blood-stained right arm, throwing the severely injured "Rin" to the ground, throwing his head back and roaring toward the sky.
"Bastard!"
" Yasushi!"
"How long will you keep tormenting me?!"
With his roaring, the surrounding space shattered again. Once more he saw the familiar bedroom.
The door opened. Another person pushed in.
"Obito..." Rin's gentle voice came again from the doorway.
"Bastard!"
"I won't fall for your tricks again!"
This time Obito didn't wait for Rin to speak. He charged forward madly, his right arm swinging to pierce through the heart of the "Rin" before him.
Sure enough, the surrounding space shattered again. Once more he saw the familiar bedroom.
The door opened. White Zetsu pushed in.
"Bastard, die!"
Obito roared and charged at White Zetsu.
"What are you going crazy for?!"
White Zetsu dodged Obito's attack in panic, trying to wake Obito, but Obito acted like a madman, completely unable to hear him.
With no choice, White Zetsu could only fight back in exasperation.
Only after fighting for quite a while did Obito finally confirm—the one who entered this time wasn't Zetsu but White Zetsu, and he hadn't brought "Rin" along. Nor was this a person in the nightmare.
And he had truly awakened from the dream.
Only then did Obito stop, holding his head with both hands, pacing back and forth in place, roaring in impotent rage.
He now understood very clearly—without his Mangekyo Sharingan, he could no longer resist the ocular jutsu effects of Uchiha Yasushi's right eye.
He was finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish which was reality and which was illusion.
