Chapter 30 - The nexus war begins

The sky above the Nexus Realm shimmered like fractured glass, alive with swirling mana and echoes of distant dimensions. Sung Jinwoo stood at the edge of a vast obsidian plain, where gravity felt uncertain and time stretched unevenly. His shadows spread across the surface, shifting restlessly as if aware of the battle that awaited.

All around him, the air trembled with presence — six beings of immense power watching from afar. Five ES Rank beasts and one towering SS Demon stood across the horizon, their combined auras distorting reality.

Behind Jinwoo, Igris and Beru materialized, their forms stable despite the overwhelming energy in the realm. Beside them stood his long-time allies — Cha Hae-In, Baek Yoonho, Go Gunhee, and even his younger sister Jinah, now a trained hunter radiating her own powerful aura. The team's eyes gleamed with both fear and determination.

"This place," Hae-In whispered, gazing at the chaotic sky, "it feels… alive."

"It is," Jinwoo replied quietly. "The Nexus Realm feeds on conflict. The longer we hesitate, the more it adapts to our fears."

The boy, glowing faintly with silver light, took a cautious step forward. "Master, they're waiting for your command. The five ES beasts have aligned — they're not here to test you. They're here to end you."

Jinwoo's lips curved faintly. "Then they'll learn why the shadows never fall."

---

The first roar shattered the silence.

From the left emerged Gorath, the Rift Tyrant, a towering dragon-beast whose wings cut through reality like blades. Its scales shimmered in molten hues, each movement radiating volcanic energy. From the right, Velora, the Crystal Fang, emerged — a wolf-shaped entity with crystalline armor and eyes that refracted every light into chaos.

The ground cracked as Othrel, the Abyss Devourer, rose from beneath — an amorphous mass of tendrils and void energy. Beside it came Rynora, the Soul Widow, a spectral serpent that moved as mist and shadow, her hiss laced with mana that drained the spirit. The last ES beast, Kaldros the Iron Titan, emerged last, shaking the realm itself with each colossal step.

And then, above them all, descending through a tear in the air, came the SS Demon — Varnath, the Scourge of Dominion. His presence darkened the realm's light, wings stretching endlessly, his horns curling like the claws of time itself.

The six beings stared at Jinwoo, unified by one purpose — destruction.

---

Jinwoo's shadows expanded.

"Igris, engage the left flank. Beru, keep the right contained. Everyone else, stay behind the perimeter. No one moves without my signal."

"Understood, my king!" Beru's screech echoed, vibrating through the Nexus air as he shot forward like lightning. Igris followed, sword ignited with crimson fire. The clash began instantly — Beru striking Velora mid-air while Igris crossed blades with Kaldros, sparks igniting the battlefield.

Jinwoo summoned his dual daggers and charged toward Gorath. The dragon's roar ripped across the field, sending waves of molten air, but Jinwoo weaved through it, shadows cushioning the pressure.

He struck once — shadows extended, stabbing deep into Gorath's chest. The beast screamed, retaliating with a blast of energy that turned the ground molten. Jinwoo teleported behind it, slashing once more. The shadows erupted like lightning, pushing Gorath back, its wings scorched black.

Yet the battle was far from simple. Rynora's ethereal form slithered behind him, whispering in ancient tones that clawed at his mind. Othrel's void tendrils lashed from every direction, warping gravity and pulling everything toward an endless pit.

"Jinwoo!" Cha Hae-In called, sending a wave of golden light from her blade to cut through Othrel's tendrils. Baek Yoonho roared beside her, his beast transformation manifesting as he shielded Jinah from an explosive surge of mana.

But even with their combined might, the ES beasts held their ground.

---

Above them, Varnath watched calmly. His voice carried like thunder.

"You stand before an inevitable order, Shadow Monarch. The Nexus does not bow to mortals."

Jinwoo raised his eyes, meeting the demon's gaze. "I don't need it to bow. I just need it to break."

The SS Demon extended a claw, and the entire realm responded — the five ES beasts howled as power flooded their forms. They glowed brighter, faster, deadlier.

Jinwoo clenched his daggers tighter. "So, this is how it's going to be."

The boy's voice echoed in his mind. "Master, if you keep fighting like this, your mana core won't last long. You're fighting six beings powered by the realm itself."

"I know," Jinwoo said, breathing steadily. "Then it's time to surpass this threshold."

---

He extended both hands, summoning every shadow he'd ever commanded. The ground turned black. The Nexus trembled. From the darkness, countless shadow soldiers rose — knights, archers, dragons, titans, all roaring in unison.

The five ES beasts turned, startled by the sheer scale.

Jinwoo's voice rang out. "Arise."

The black army surged forward. Chaos exploded across the field — shadows clashing against crystalline claws, devouring light and mana alike. The Nexus sky cracked, shattering pieces of reality as light and darkness intertwined.

Varnath spread his wings, descending directly toward Jinwoo. Their collision sent shockwaves that shattered entire ridges of stone. Jinwoo dodged, his blades scraping against the demon's arm, but Varnath countered instantly, striking him across the field.

Jinwoo slammed into the ground, coughing as his mana flickered. His allies tried to reach him, but Rynora's spectral coils blocked their path.

The demon approached slowly. "You cannot win, mortal shadow. Even in this realm, you remain a puppet of your own mortality."

Jinwoo smiled faintly, rising despite the pain. "You talk too much."

The shadows pulsed again — this time brighter, sharper. His aura erupted, pushing even the demon back for a heartbeat.

System Message: Threshold Exceeded

System Message: Sung Jinwoo — Rank Advancement: SSS → ES Rank Achieved

The ground trembled as his energy stabilized. His eyes burned brighter than ever. The shadows behind him condensed into a single colossal figure — an embodiment of his will, towering and radiant with void light.

Jinwoo whispered, "Let's finish this."

He dashed forward. His daggers met Varnath's claws in a clash that split the air itself. The demon's body cracked under the pressure, dark energy leaking like blood. Gorath tried to intervene, but Jinwoo snapped his fingers, and his shadows devoured the dragon whole.

One by one, the ES beasts fell. Beru impaled Velora through the chest, Igris decapitated Kaldros, and Othrel disintegrated under Jinwoo's expanding aura. Rynora tried to flee but was dragged into the void by the shadows themselves.

Only Varnath remained.

Their battle stretched across the skies, colliding with the energy of the realm itself. The final strike came in silence — Jinwoo's blades crossed in an X as he whispered, "Shadow Requiem."

A blinding surge of void light consumed everything. When the glow faded, the Nexus Realm was quiet once more.

Jinwoo stood victorious, breathing heavily, his allies gathering behind him. The shadows slowly receded, revealing the restored plain beneath his feet.

The boy approached, his silver eyes reflecting awe. "Master… you did it."

Jinwoo nodded quietly, gazing at the shattered sky above. "The war isn't over. This was only the beginning of what's coming."

Far away, deep in the black horizon, a faint laughter echoed — cold, deliberate, and familiar.

Agnorath had felt the surge.

And somewhere, beyond the Nexus, he smiled.
