The halls smell faintly of smoke and ozone from Elena's uncontrolled psychic discharge, despite the cleaners rushing in earlier. The lights flicker once, settling into a dim, steady glow.
I descend to the sub-levels, past the stone stairway and reinforced walls. It is time to meet with Gracia, who is now chained to a chair inside the Interrogation Chamber.
She had always been a capable assistant to me, and I knew her to be a non-psychic, yet someone capable regardless. She has traveled with me through three countries and knew every schedule, every weakness, every protocol, because I let her.
She played me like an instrument.
My jaw aches from clenching as I stare at the live feed. Thorne waits inside the room, arms folded, his posture unnervingly still. Elena is upstairs recovering, Kelly is probably somewhere pacing the hallways like a storm in human form, and Neal, that traitor, also bleeds out in a containment cell two floors away.
