Song Jie walked toward the bed and sat down.
Tang Yue dragged a chair over and sat across from him.
"We were almost discovered just now," Tang Yue said softly, exhaling a long breath as she explained what had happened.
She had been monitoring Chao He's movements when he suddenly opened the window. In her moment of urgency, she had pushed Song Jie down to avoid being seen — resulting in that rather awkward scene.
"Teacher Tang Yue, you called me here to track that man?" Song Jie asked.
"Yes," Tang Yue replied, her tone serious.
"You're the perfect person for this task. If the Judgment Association sends someone, Chao He will immediately be suspicious. But you're a student — your presence won't alarm him."
Song Jie nodded in understanding.
"You've already mastered Intermediate-level spells, haven't you?" Tang Yue continued. She knew Song Jie was strong, but she wasn't sure how far his Light Element had progressed.
"Yes," he replied.
However, he knew that Light Element defenses wouldn't work too well against Chao He's Curses.
"Has your Intermediate spell mutated?" she asked, her tone sharpening slightly.
This was the most crucial question. If only his Basic-tier spells had mutated, his talent would have limited impact.
"It has," Song Jie said honestly.
Tang Yue leaned forward slightly. "What kind of mutation?"
"It enhances my defense," Song Jie explained. "But I'm not sure how strong it is yet — I haven't tested its limit."
Tang Yue touched her chin thoughtfully and nodded. "So I was right. Strengthened defense, huh? That'll come in handy."
She stood up. "Tonight, we'll take turns monitoring Chao He. Do you want the first half or the second half?"
"You've been watching him all day," Song Jie said. "Go get some rest. I'll take the first shift."
"Alright. Wake me up later in the night," Tang Yue said, yawning. "I'm completely exhausted."
As she walked toward the bed, she suddenly paused. "Oh, right, one more thing."
"What is it?" Song Jie asked.
"Mo Fan will be arriving tomorrow."
"You called Mo Fan too?"
"Yes. He's already in the Magic City. Haven't you met him yet?"
Song Jie spread his hands. "No, he didn't tell me he was coming."
"Perfect," Tang Yue said with a small smile. "You can meet him tomorrow, then."
She yawned again, then flopped onto the bed, lying on her side. Within moments, her breathing softened into a quiet rhythm.
Song Jie looked at her — lying there so naturally, as if she completely trusted him — and couldn't help but smile helplessly.
Is she taking advantage of me because I'm too nice?
Her graceful figure under the white sheets was… distracting. He quickly turned his gaze away.
If he kept staring, he might really lose control.
The night passed quietly.
Song Jie didn't wake Tang Yue at midnight — he kept watch until dawn.
When Tang Yue finally opened her eyes, sunlight was already peeking through the window.
"You didn't wake me?" she asked, stretching lazily.
"I saw you were sleeping so peacefully. I couldn't bring myself to," Song Jie said with a grin.
"You rascal," Tang Yue replied with a faint smile. "Did Chao He make any moves?"
"Not yet. But he's cautious."
"Alright," she said, patting his shoulder. "You look exhausted. Get some rest — I'll take over."
Song Jie nodded, unable to deny it. He lay down in the spot she had slept in, surrounded by her faint scent, and drifted off almost instantly.
At noon, Tang Yue woke him. She had already changed into a new outfit — a sleek, form-fitting dress that highlighted every curve of her mature figure.
She was, without a doubt, a dangerous beauty.
"Chao He seems to be moving out. Let's go," she said, leaning slightly toward him.
Song Jie jolted awake immediately, all traces of drowsiness gone.
The two slipped out quietly and tailed Chao He from a distance, careful not to be seen.
They followed him to a small restaurant called Youjian Inn.
Tang Yue checked her phone and quickly sent a message.
Tang Yue said, "Mo Fan's arrived. I told him to come here."
Song Jie nodded silently. She had helped him plenty already — including raising one of his Summoned Beasts — so he wouldn't complain about her arrangements.
Before long, Mo Fan arrived at the inn and spotted them.
"Brother Jie! You're here too?" Mo Fan said, surprised.
Song Jie smiled. "Looks like we're working together again."
"Teacher Tang Yue," Mo Fan turned to her, "what do you need us to do?"
"Just keep an eye on Chao He," Tang Yue instructed. "Don't let him get away."
"No problem!" Mo Fan said confidently. "Leave it to us."
He knew Song Jie's strength — the two of them could easily handle an Intermediate Mage.
Once Chao He left the inn, the three quietly followed him into a desolate area outside the town.
"Brother Jie," Mo Fan whispered, "did you get into Pearl Institute already?"
Song Jie nodded.
Mo Fan grinned. "Guess that makes me your junior now, huh?"
Song Jie chuckled, and the two continued chatting as they tailed Chao He.
Suddenly, Tang Yue's voice came from ahead — sharp but quiet.
"Hide!"
Song Jie reacted instantly, pushing Mo Fan behind a large tree for cover.
Before he could move further, a shadow swept across him, and Tang Yue suddenly pressed herself against him, pulling him down at the base of the tree.
Her soft, curving form pressed against his chest, her heartbeat fast and steady.
He could barely breathe.
Her faint perfume filled his senses — dangerously intoxicating.
Tang Yue raised a slender finger to his lips, signaling silence.
A veil of Shadow Magic spread around them, concealing their presence completely.
Moments later, several distant voices passed by.
Mo Fan, hidden behind the tree, didn't see what was happening — but his heart pounded nervously as he stayed completely still, not daring to make a sound.
