Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: It’s Really Heartbreaking to Have No Money!

Spirit Seeds are formed from the elemental energy of heaven and earth — rare treasures that greatly amplify a mage's magic power.

They are classified into three tiers: Spirit Seeds, Soul Seeds, and Heavenly Seeds.

For example, a Thunder Spirit Seed can be absorbed and refined by a Thunder Mage, significantly boosting the power of all their Lightning Magic.

However, even the lowest-grade Spirit Seed costs around 20 million yuan on the market.

For ordinary people, that's an astronomical amount — completely out of reach.

But Song Jie's outrageous demands nearly made Zhan Kong cough up blood.

This kid was seriously pushing his limits!

"You think I'm some spoiled rich heir, don't you? Do you even know how much a Spirit Seed costs?" Zhan Kong roared, veins popping on his forehead.

"No way? The great Chief Instructor can't even afford one?" Song Jie said mockingly.

Zhan Kong's fists clenched so tightly that he nearly punched him on the spot.

"You want a Spirit Seed, huh? Fine. If you guess wrong later, then after graduation, you'll enlist in the army under me!"

At that, Tang Yue immediately frowned. She glanced at Song Jie and said, "Don't listen to him. Even if you win, he doesn't have the means to give you a Spirit Seed."

Zhan Kong shot her an offended look. "Oh, Tang Yue, that's not fair! I still have my dignity, you know!"

Song Jie smirked. "Oh really? Then let's take a look at your savings, Chief Instructor."

Zhan Kong stared at him suspiciously. This brat's words sounded polite, but they were clearly setting a trap.

Truth be told, he really couldn't come up with 20 million yuan.

After all, he was just the commander of a small city like Bo City. Back in the day, maybe he could've done it, but not anymore.

"Song Jie, Instructor Zhan Kong might not be able to do it, but I can," Tang Yue said confidently. "So? Who do you think will win?"

Zhan Kong's face darkened instantly. "Hey! Who are you calling incapable?!"

But neither Song Jie nor Tang Yue paid him any mind.

"I think Mu He's nephew, Mu Yuan, has a higher chance of winning," Song Jie said. "He's a genius trained by the Mu Family — no way he's weak."

"So, you're betting that Mu Yuan will win?" Tang Yue asked.

No one was surprised. After all, how could a mere student beat someone backed by the entire Mu Family?

"But…" Song Jie added with a grin, "Mo Fan is my classmate and dormmate. I have to support him no matter what!"

Zhan Kong and Tang Yue exchanged glances. Maybe this kid wasn't that bad after all.

"They're starting," Zhan Kong said, turning to the square where Mo Fan and Mu Yuan were about to duel.

Song Jie knew the outcome in advance, so he didn't want to miss the chance to cash in.

"Teacher Tang Yue, how about a little bet?" he asked.

Tang Yue raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What are you betting on?"

"If I guess right, you give me a Spirit Seed. If I lose, I'll join the Inquisition after graduation."

Tang Yue hesitated. A student beating the Mu Family sounded impossible. Even if Mo Fan's cultivation had reached the third level, his odds were at best fifty-fifty.

After all, Mu Zhuoyun would never allow himself to lose — the Mu Family would do anything to maintain their pride.

But Tang Yue nodded. "Alright, deal."

Song Jie accepted with a dramatic sigh. He looked like a man walking into battle — though inside, he was thrilled.

Zhan Kong, however, wasn't pleased. "Hey! I was the one who brought up the bet first! Why are you betting with her instead of me? And how do you even know she can afford a Spirit Seed?!"

Tang Yue turned and gave him a look. Then she took out her phone, opened her banking app, and showed the balance.

Zhan Kong immediately turned away. "I didn't see anything. Nope. Didn't see."

"Teacher Tang Yue, please give me your phone," Song Jie said politely. "The Chief Instructor might be too far away; I'll bring it to him."

Zhan Kong wrapped an arm around Song Jie's neck. "You really have a death wish, don't you, brat?!"

"Stop it! Mo Fan's about to lose!" Tang Yue suddenly shouted.

Zhan Kong released him and turned back to the duel — only to see something shocking.

"Damn it! The Mu Family is so shameless — they're using defensive magic tools!" Zhan Kong cursed.

If Mo Fan lost, that meant Song Jie would join the Inquisition, and Zhan Kong couldn't stand the thought!

"Song Jie, when you come to the Inquisition, I'll make sure you're treated well," Tang Yue teased.

Song Jie laughed. "Then it looks like I'll be colleagues with Teacher Tang Yue soon!"

Honestly, who wouldn't want to work alongside a beautiful teacher who wore black stockings to work every day?

Still, he knew how this duel would end.

Beside him, Zhan Kong felt miserable. Why am I so poor?!

Then, someone in the crowd suddenly exclaimed —

"Wait! Isn't he a Fire Mage? Why is he using Lightning Magic?!"

The crowd erupted. Mo Fan had unleashed Lightning Magic!

"He has two magic systems! Could he be a mid-level mage?"

"No," said Principal Zhu of Tianlan Magic High School, eyes wide with excitement. "He's not mid-level. He's a Natural Dual-Element Mage!"

Born with dual elements — the rarest kind of mage!

The entire audience was in awe.

Tang Yue and Zhan Kong stared, dumbfounded. A natural dual-element mage… the odds of that were one in a million.

With Song Jie ahead and Mo Fan behind, Tianlan Magic High School was about to soar to new heights!

Tang Yue completely forgot about the bet.

Zhan Kong glanced at Song Jie suspiciously. This kid must've known something — no wonder he bet so confidently.

"Tang Yue," he said with a smirk, "looks like you've been tricked."

Tang Yue didn't seem to mind. She smiled gently at Song Jie. "Then consider this Spirit Seed a graduation gift from your teacher."

Zhan Kong's grin instantly froze. His heart ached.

So painful…

"Thank you, Teacher Tang Yue!" Song Jie said with genuine gratitude. It's really nice having a generous teacher!

Meanwhile, the duel ended. Mo Fan stood victorious.

"Old Dog Mu! Isn't it time to fulfill your promise?" Mo Fan shouted at Mu Zhuoyun.

Mu Zhuoyun's face turned pale. They had bet that if Mo Fan won, he would kneel and apologize to Mo Fan's father.

Song Jie didn't bother watching the rest of that drama. He was too busy happily discussing Spirit Seeds with Tang Yue.

After all, he'd just earned one for free — time to put it to good use.
