"Harry, Ron, we're back," Kevin called as he and Hermione walked into the common room after returning from the Christmas holidays.
Ron's eyes immediately went to Kevin's cloak.
"Blimey, Kevin—where'd you get that cape? It's so… flashy."
"Oh, Ron, you wouldn't understand," Kevin said with a deliberately dramatic pose.
Beside him, Hermione instantly regretted ever giving him the cloak. She covered her face, embarrassed to see her carefully made gift paraded around like this.
Ron smirked. "Well, Harry got a cloak for Christmas too—an Invisibility Cloak."
He beckoned them closer and whispered, "Proper invisibility, not some silly glamour."
"I can cast a Disillusionment Charm," Kevin scoffed.
Ron gave him a look. "It's not the same thing…"
He went on. "Harry used it to sneak around at night and overheard Snape threatening Quirrell. Couldn't catch everything—he was afraid of being spotted. Then he found this magic mirror that shows you what you most want to see."
Kevin instantly recognised the events—Harry had stumbled on the Mirror of Erised just like in the original story.
"Is the mirror still there?" Kevin asked.
"No. Dumbledore took it away," Harry replied, then frowned. "Wait, why ask if it's still there instead of where it is?"
"Because it's dangerous," Kevin said flatly. "It traps people in dreams. Best gone."
"Don't you want to see what you desire most?" Ron teased.
"I already know," Kevin replied confidently, hands on his hips. He glanced at Hermione, whose cheeks flushed pink under his gaze.
Harry and Ron exchanged confused looks. "Why are you two acting so weird after Christmas?"
Later, Kevin stopped by Snape's office.
"Professor, thanks for the notes. Here's your bag back—the one with the Undetectable Extension Charm."
Snape eyed him and sneered. "Enjoy your holiday, Mr. Kevin? You're dressed like a clown."
"Jealous? Hermione made it for me," Kevin grinned.
For a brief second, Snape's expression darkened, as if recalling something unpleasant. Then—
"Get out."
Kevin wisely obeyed.
On his way back to the dorm, he ran into Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
"Kevin," Harry said quickly, "we just saw Hagrid rushing about, looking worried. We thought we'd check on him—come on."
Kevin frowned. "What could Hagrid be afraid of?"
But he had a guess. Dragon eggs.
When they reached Hagrid's hut, the half-giant answered the door, looking flustered.
"I'm fine," he insisted. "Just busy. Not your business."
Harry pressed. "Is it about the Philosopher's Stone?"
Hagrid glanced around and hissed, "Not here. Come inside."
Once the door was shut, Kevin's eyes went straight to the stove—where a huge egg was roasting in the embers.
Ron's gasp confirmed it. "That's a dragon egg!"
Hagrid sighed and explained someone had lost it to him in a card game over Christmas.
The egg began to tremble. Moments later, the shell cracked and out tumbled a small Norwegian Ridgeback hatchling—black scales, stubby wings, and already baring tiny fangs.
But Kevin had already slipped to the door, just in time to spot Draco Malfoy peeking through the window.
Without hesitation, Kevin flicked his wand.
"Petrificus Totalus!"
Draco toppled to the ground. Kevin followed with, "Silencio," and dragged the immobilised boy inside.
"Kevin!" Hagrid gasped. "You can't—"
"Relax," Kevin said. He propped Draco on a chair and pressed his wand to Draco's chest. "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm making a deal."
He demonstrated with a quick slice of "Sectumsempra" into the wooden floor, leaving a deep gouge. Draco's eyes widened—he got the message.
"You've got two choices," Kevin said calmly. "One—Obliviation. Risky. Could scramble your brains. Two—keep today's secret. In return, you can visit and see the dragon whenever you want."
"I choose two!" Draco blurted as soon as the Silencing Charm was lifted.
Still, Kevin wasn't done. "One more thing. You're going to duel me. That way, if anyone asks, it explains why I hexed you."
Draco realised the cleverness of it and agreed.
Outside, under Hagrid's watch, the duel began. Kevin quickly bound Draco's legs again and hit him with "Expelliarmus," ending the fight in seconds.
The matter was settled—for now.
