Chapter Fifty–Five:

The air inside the staircase was different. It didn't just feel old; it felt heavy, like walking through deep water. The noise of the club—the thumping bass and the screams of the teenagers—faded into a dull, distant hum that sounded like it was coming from miles away.

"How come no one has ever noticed this place before?" Amelia whispered. Her voice sounded thin, lacking its usual sharp edge. She looked around the stone walls, her eyes darting through the gloom.

Luna took a deep, steadying breath. Her lungs felt tight, as if the oxygen itself was being rationed. "I don't know. But we're in it now," she said. "Let's go."
