Siberian Taiga[1998]

–Damian Hawthorne–

Irritated? Irritated? Irritated?!

The mere thought of that bastard being irritated in front of the desecration of magic that was happening seemed to snap something inside of him, bringing forth with it a roiling thunder of magic, as he felt his Shaped Forcefield enchantment get supercharged, as the force field became visible all of a sudden.

He grinned as the vampire's mouth seemed to move with his face but he was in no mood to talk right now. With the pebbles done exploding, the area was once again plunged into darkness, only for his newfound visible forcefield to bathe it in a subtle blue glow.

Whatever it was, it responded to his will, as he found himself being suspended mid air, as if he was in the middle of a giant avatar of some sort, as he jumped, and tackled the vampire out of the altar.

Only, that never happened as the vampire seemed to disappear, leaving the unicorn and the altar in one of his avatar's hands, his grip enough to carve grooves into the altar.

He looked around wildly, only for him to hit his head in exasperation, the gesture thankfully not repeated by the avatar. It was very intuitive. Vampires, creatures of darkness.

With the surge of magic he seemed to have, he took out a pebble from his pocket and tossed it up in the air, his eyes catching onto the subtle disturbance in the shadows a few feet from his avatar.

The pebble exploded spectacularly, all that heat captured going kaboom, in a show of light that illuminated the entire clearing. Now that he could finally focus on something else, he noted the way the other seven vampires he encountered, two of which were unfortunately in more pieces than he could count, seemed to shrivel up, as the light shone on their bodies.

Not the reaction he was expecting but then again, this was not like real sunlight on their bodies. He had a hunch that real sunlight would just kill them immediately, just as the lore suggests.

But his real target was not the already downed vampires. No, it was the vampire who shrieked and was pushed out of the shadows, looking at him with red eyes, with bulging veins around his eyes, as his hands turned into dark claws, his entire figure bulking up a bit as he snarled in rage.

"Whoa. Now, that's a face that only a mother could love," He quipped as he jumped to the side, using his free hand to flick the vampire in the back, a pained shriek tearing itself out of the vampire's throat as his hand, now very much giant, just impaled the vampire, as the vampire was stuck in his avatar's hands.

As if flicking trash, he flicked his hand, torpedoing the vampire into the darkness, as he turned around, his attention zeroing on the enchantments on the chains, fading in and out of sight as the baby unicorn looked at him with hope.

The big, teary eyes almost hit him like a physical punch as he kneeled down and safely deposited the baby unicorn on the ground. He had no words to describe what he wouldn't do to protect the unicorn in front of him.

The language was alien, but he had already cracked one of their enchantments. This one shouldn't take too long.

Alas, the pesky vampire came back, the malevolent feeling in the air heralding his arrival, which was odd because vampires were supposed to be creatures of the dark, hunting in silence and stealth, but apparently, this one didn't get the memo.

The second he felt the vampire come back, he performed yet another edition of exploding rocks, only this time, he followed that up with a new one, powered entirely by his internal magic. A piece of the altar, stripped apart, now glowing the same blue, as he funneled his magic into it.

The only difference this time, was that the altar acted as a flashlight, as the light beam fell directly on his skin, making the vampire scream once more, as his skin burned in front of him.

He made eye contact with the vampire, as something seemed to hit him, making him stagger a bit but then he felt Calm Mind come to the forefront of his mind, stopping the effect.

"Mind control, got it." He muttered to himself, one hand digging straight into the ground itself, finding rocks very easily, as he flung it straight at the vampire.

He was running out of options here. It was clear that the baby unicorn was important to that vampire, which is why he kept coming back for more. On the other hand, he was feeling the pinch as his magic was being consumed greedily by this overcharged application of Shaped Durability and Forcefield, whilst keeping an eye on the Baby unicorn.

He could not do it forever, certainly not long enough for the sun to come up. So, he resorted to the next best thing. Damage the vampire enough for him to retreat.

Placing the Baby unicorn gently on the ground, he tried to convey his apologies as much as he could, then he disappeared as he smashed right into the vampire, who dodged at the last moment and even then, Shaped Durability came in clutch, extending the sharp force fields even more, as they dug right into the vampire's torso, tearing out half his chest, along with his entire left hand.

Throwing that to the side, as it withered to dust, he jumped back towards the vampire, hands flexing, as his feet dug grooves into the ground. The sheer speed it gave as opposed to how much energy it consumed made it a fair trade in his mind as the vampire didn't even get a chance to slip into the darkness, as his hand just separated his head from his body.

Crushing the head, he took a look at what was left of his body. A headless half torso that withered to dust soon after as well.

He relaxed a bit, as the death of the vampire seemed to have made the air around him easier to breathe, a little less darkness into the clearing, as the barrier around the clearing was shattered as well, as did the chains around the Baby unicorn.

The altar, already heavily damaged, broke in pieces as the unicorn, fresh out of its confines, stomped on the remains, and then, after sparing a single glance at him, flew away, leaving behind nothing but a giant mess for him to clean up.

Or not.

He could just leave, and with the way his magic was being gobbled up, he did just that, straight in the direction of his home.

But nothing said that he couldn't enjoy his new ability a little longer, as he made way to his safe haven.

"Woohoo!" He whooped, as he jumped in between trees, through trees, and above trees as well, the forcefield armour using energy relative to the task at hand. Jumping seemed to need the most energy, by far.

Cutting through trees felt as if he was moving through air that was being pushed at him with a large enough cooler, the ones they used in big non-air-conditioned events. It was noticeable but not significant enough to mention.

With the forcefield armour around him, he was near his home, in front of the lake, very soon, much faster than running with all his speed. On his way here, he kept his senses peeled and nothing registered to them but even so, he would exercise caution for the better part of the next week.

"Ugh, that's still left," He groaned as he thought of his project to get out of this place. Well, that was before he found out that vampires were a thing here.

Well, not for long if he had anything to say about it.

As soon as he entered the clearing around his home, he lumbered into his cave, keeping the forcefield tightly wrapped around himself, deactivating the sharp bits and the giant avatar thing.

As soon as he did that, however, it all seemed to hit him all at once.

The next moment, he was in front of the stone sink he made for himself, throwing up the tea he had earlier. Dry heaving came next.

"Oh, dear god," He whispered to himself, feeling horrified and disgusted at what he had done.

The images of him just cutting through a sentient being just made him want to puke. The vampire might have deserved it but those other people? They might just have been some unfortunate people turned into thralls of that vampire.

Oh, god, he just killed 7 people. If not from the point force fields or the explosions, or the light from the explosion, then from the fact that he left them lying there, unconscious, for them to burn up when the sun comes up in the morning.

"What have I done? What happened?" He ended up asking himself and then the answer came to him.

That unicorn. That Baby unicorn.

Now that he was far away from that place, and had some time to reflect, he could tell that it all began when he laid his eyes on that Baby unicorn. He knew intellectually that they were pure beings of magic, with magic favoring them at every step of the way but he had never thought it possible for magic to just take control over his emotions like that.

It was horrible. He didn't even feel the bloodlust take over as his first thoughts turned to killing anything and everything that was a threat to the baby unicorn.

He shuddered at the level of influence those beings possessed, "Terifying." He muttered to himself.

Trying not to think about it too much, he stumbled to the water drum, drank two cups of water, before all but collapsing into the bed, not before activating all the safety measures in his cave, turning it into a fortress which could be reached only by the likes of the Ancient One.

Well, he said that but it was only because that was the only frame of reference he had. For all he knew, someone like Wong or Mordo could breach through as well.

Well, someone of the level of that vampire definitely shouldn't, so there's that.

With that self-consolation done, he curled up on the bed, lulling himself to sleep.
