Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Wait—Why Can’t I Activate Red-Eyes Fusion!?

Isn't it perfectly normal for me to have Infinite Impermanence? I might not have a full deck, but it's not like I don't own powerful singles.

You Ye's calm response left Wu Ping speechless.

He really said that like it was obvious!

In his eyes, cards like Infinite Impermanence were common—he'd seen them all the time back in Master Duel.

But for everyone else? That was absurd.

For most duelists in this world, unless you had Heaven-tier potential, even the spirit of that card wouldn't acknowledge you—let alone allow itself to be used.

That meant… he wasn't bluffing.

And then she remembered—earlier, when he Normal Summoned Effect Veiler, she hadn't thought much of it.

But now that she thought about it, Veiler was also a high-rarity spirit card!

The realization made her brain freeze completely.

Sheng Ning, on the other hand, wasn't as shocked.

After all, just from seeing You Ye casually run triple Solemn Judgment and Glow-Up Bulb, she had already concluded—this guy was definitely a King-Rank duelist.

Someone who could consistently obtain Primordial Cards each year from Master Duels.

Given that, pulling something like Infinite Impermanence or Effect Veiler wasn't exactly unbelievable.

Bai Yuner, meanwhile, simply watched quietly—her eyes never leaving You Ye's figure, as though deep in thought.

Effect Resolution:

Chain 2 — Infinite Impermanence resolves successfully.

Archfiend Black Skull Dragon's effect is negated until the end of the turn.

Chain 1 — Archfiend's effect fails to resolve.

"I now activate from my hand the Quick-Play Spell Runick Dispelling.

This time, I choose to Special Summon from my Extra Deck—come forth, Hugin the Runick Wings!"

"Hugin's effect activates upon being Special Summoned from the Extra Deck!

I discard one card to add one Runick Continuous Spell from my Deck to my hand.

I discard Infinite Impermanence, and add Runick Allure to my hand!"

"Then, thanks to my Field Spell Runick Fountain, I return Runick Dispelling and Runick of Flashing Fire from my Graveyard to my Deck—draw two cards!"

He smiled faintly. "You may continue."

Wu Ping nearly broke down laughing.

She suddenly realized—this was still her Main Phase 2, yet You Ye had been moving like it was his own turn!

Was this even legal anymore?

She looked at her hand for a long while.

No plays.

No hope.

Nothing but despair.

Finally, she sighed.

"…I end my turn."

"At the end of the turn," You Ye continued smoothly, "Hugin the Runick Wings' third effect activates. I recover 1000 Life Points."

You Ye LP: 6600 → 7600

Wu Ping's faint smile vanished completely.

She'd worked so hard to finally inflict a bit of damage—

And in one turn, he'd already recovered it all.

By the time his next turn ended, he'd probably be back over 8000 again.

How was she supposed to fight that?

For the first time, she felt regret.

Maybe… it would've been better to just get one-shot by his combo earlier.

At least that would've been quick.

"My turn—draw."

You Ye looked at the card he drew, sighed lightly, and gave a helpless shrug.

"I really didn't want to do this," he muttered. "But fate's being cruel today."

He turned toward Wu Ping, silently asking if she had any responses before Main Phase 1.

Wu Ping shook her head.

"Then, Main Phase 1—let's begin the trimming."

He gestured toward the field.

"I'll start with Baronne de Fleur's effect—destroy your Archfiend Black Skull Dragon.

Then activate Runick Golden Droplet—you draw one card, and then I banish four cards from your Deck.

Next, Runick Dispelling—discard one, banish two, and banish one Continuous Spell.

After that, Runick Slumber, targeting my Baronne—you banish three more cards, and another Continuous Spell.

Finally, Runick Fountain—shuffle three Runick Spells from the Graveyard back into the Deck, and draw three."

Within moments, Wu Ping's Deck—originally around twenty cards—was down to five.

Sheng Ning couldn't watch anymore.

Most people didn't understand how cruel this stage of a Runick duel was.

When your Deck had fewer than ten cards, the Runick deck's banishing effects started to shut off—they could no longer recycle effectively.

To an outsider, that might sound like good news: "He's out of resources!"

But in truth, it was pure torture.

Because while Runick slowed down slightly, you?

You had no Graveyard, no Deck, no recovery, no hand—all your power cards were gone.

All you could do was sit there… and wait for your inevitable end.

So Sheng Ning turned to Bai Yuner and quietly said:

"Little Bai, have your servant surrender.

If this duel continues, her spirit core will crack."

Bai Yuner blinked.

"Her… spirit core? It's just one loss in a duel, isn't it?"

She was confused—but she trusted Sheng Ning's judgment.

So she looked toward Wu Ping.

Wu Ping only gave a faint smile and shook her head.

Refusing.

Bai Yuner sighed softly. "Sister Sheng, don't worry. Aunt Wu's mental discipline is top-tier. One loss won't shake her heart."

"…If you say so." Sheng Ning murmured, deciding to respect her fate.

The turn ended.

You Ye recovered another 1000 LP during the End Phase.

Then he calmly declared the turn over.

"My turn—draw!"

Wu Ping's eyes lit up.

Finally—Red-Eyes Fusion again!

If she could end the duel in the next two turns before he drew Runick of Flashing Fire, there might still be hope!

After confirming You Ye had no interruptions, she entered Main Phase 1, excitement rising.

She slammed the card down.

"I activate—Red-Eyes—wait.

Wait… why can't I activate it?"

She froze.

Her Duel Disk remained unresponsive—no activation glow, no effect window.

For a duelist of her level, this was impossible.

Equipment malfunction?

No—that couldn't be.

The Duel Disk's rule module was system-enforced; manufacturers could tweak performance, but not change the fundamental duel rules.

That could only mean one thing:

The rules themselves forbade her from activating Red-Eyes Fusion!

"Check your banished zone and your field," You Ye said calmly.

"If I'm right, it's because every single one of your monsters has already been banished—meaning you have no valid Fusion Materials left in your Deck."

Wu Ping's hands trembled.

She quickly opened the interface—checked her Banished and Graveyard zones.

Ten seconds later, she looked up at him blankly.

He was right.

Every single one of her monsters—either banished or buried.

Not one left.

No legal materials.

No activation possible.

And that wasn't even the worst of it.

She also noticed that her Dark Hole, Mystical Space Typhoon, and even Pot of Avarice—her entire set of recovery and board-clearing tools—were all banished too.

In summary—

For the next four turns, she could literally pull out her phone and scroll through social media while waiting to die.

Her professional duelist's smile faded completely, replaced by bitterness.

Crushing, helpless bitterness.

Both You Ye and Sheng Ning had warned her not to resist.

She hadn't listened.

Now, she finally understood why.

Sheng Ning sighed softly.

She'd once faced the same thing—against Mu Ning, no less.

That feeling when you have a spark of hope—

only for it to be slowly extinguished until nothing remains…

That kind of despair breaks people.
