Chapter 6 - 006

Late at night, March Bookstore.

Ever since the Cunning Hares left, Jiang Ge officially began his work.

First, he needed to resolve the issue with the Public Security. He had to get them to retract the request for the Bangboo inspection from the client and have an acquaintance arrange a personal apology, stating it was all a misunderstanding due to incorrect information, in order to restore the client's reputation.

Next was the business matter with the Cunning Hares. He began reviewing the recent commissions of "Good Enough," sorted out some less important ones, personally contacted the clients to decline them, and then referred them to the newly established subsidiary organization.

He then reached out to some informants to verify whether the commission details matched the actual situation, assessing the risks involved. Based on this intelligence, he formulated detailed plans for executing the commissions. This way, the Cunning Hares would only need to follow the plans.

This might seem somewhat peculiar. Why would Jiang Ge put so much effort into these less important commissions? The reason is that "Good Enough" had long ceased to rely on such commission fees to sustain itself. Compared to the few Danny earned from completing these commissions, Jiang Ge would rather forgo the payment in exchange for other resources.

Such as connections, insider information known only to a select few, the weaknesses of certain influential figures, or deeply hidden secrets.

The main funding of "Good Enough" also comes from this source. The amount of Delanny that can be gained from these avenues is countless times higher than what could be earned through laboriously completing commissions.

That's why Jiang Ge doesn't prioritize commission fees. For "Good Enough," commissions are merely one way to curry favor.

Jiang Ge always has a solution.

But what Jiang Ge didn't know was that while he was focused on his work, Corin beside him had been watching him intently the entire time.

Since the Cunning Hares left, she had watched Jiang Ge become overwhelmingly busy. He hadn't even taken a sip of the hot tea she had poured for him earlier, leaving it to slowly grow cold by his side.

Although Jiang Ge had smiled and told her to rest, assuring her that she didn't need to help with the remaining tasks, Corin insisted on staying, thinking there might still be a chance to assist him.

However, even now, Jiang Ge had not called for her.

He kept making phone calls, pulling necessary materials from the bookshelf, and jotting down information from the other end of the line—all without asking for her help.

It was as if he was completely ignoring her presence. Even when Corin went downstairs to find the napping Ellen and returned to Jiang Ge, he didn't seem to notice she had ever left.

This left Corin feeling somewhat disheartened.

Although Ellen told her it was fine—that if the employer said to rest, why go looking for extra work—Corin didn't see it that way. To her, the relationship between Jiang Ge and herself wasn't just a simple employer-employee arrangement.

When Jiang Ge had suddenly appointed her as his personal maid and she learned from Lycaon that he was "Good Enough," she had been so startled she could barely stand.

During that period, Victoria Housekeeping had already had numerous dealings with "Good Enough," and due to conflicting commissions, had even clashed with its agents a few times—each time ending with Victoria Housekeeping at a disadvantage.

However, every time an agent from "Good Enough" would ultimately abandon their tasks and leave voluntarily, never causing trouble for Victoria Housekeeping. Of course, Victoria Housekeeping was deeply puzzled by this—until Jiang Ge suddenly showed up, revealed his identity, and explicitly requested her to serve as his personal maid.

"Good Enough" is the most dangerous organization in New Eridu, wielding influence in both legal and underground circles, and even the city's elite have to show them some respect.

So it was impossible for her not to be afraid.

Although Victoria Housekeeping couldn't confirm whether Jiang Ge was truly the master of "Good Enough," they had no reason to refuse—after all, this was their closest opportunity to get near "Good Enough."

Thus, with Lycaon's assurance that he would come to her rescue immediately if she encountered any danger, Corin left with Jiang Ge.

At first, Corin expected to be treated poorly by Jiang Ge. However, not only was he gentle and considerate toward her, but he also gave her many gifts.

If she accidentally made a mistake, Jiang Ge wouldn't blame her. Instead, he would even praise her for doing well.

It was hard to imagine someone like him being "Good Enough," but after experiencing certain events alongside Jiang Ge, Corin had no choice but to believe it.

And so, under Jiang Ge's day-and-night care, a certain indescribable, special emotion began to grow in Corin's heart.

This was why, even though Jiang Ge had explicitly told her to rest, she still found herself wanting to help.

However, it seemed that at this moment, Jiang Ge had no need for her after all.

The only thing she could do was remove that cup of cold tea.

Corin let out a soft sigh and reached out to take away the cold tea from the desk. But before her hand could steady the cup, Jiang Ge's hand suddenly moved toward the same spot—reaching for a book on the table. Inadvertently, he bumped into her. The unsteady teacup tipped over, spilling its contents and instantly staining the books and papers nearby.

"J-Jiang Ge... I'm so sorry, so sorry... I'll clean it up right away!"

Corin froze for a moment, then flusteredly pulled out a handkerchief to wipe the desk. Jiang Ge, who had been looking at his phone, shifted his gaze and glanced up in confusion. Seeing the panicked Corin, the messy desk, and the stained books, he understood what had happened.

"Didn't I tell you to go rest? Why are you still here? And how come your using your handkerchief to wipe the desk?" Jiang Ge didn't scold Corin but was concerned about why she hadn't listened to him. He took the handkerchief from her hand. "It's alright, go rest now. I'll clean this up myself."

"But, Jiang Ge..."

"It's fine, I'm not angry, little Corin," Jiang Ge said with a light laugh, guiding her to the door before returning the handkerchief to her. "It's getting late. Go get some rest."

"What about you, Mr. Jiang Ge?"

Having retrieved her handkerchief, Corin watched as Jiang Ge stretched his stiff shoulders and prepared to return to work. She couldn't help but voice her concern.

"Me? Well, there are still a few matters I need to wrap up. Don't worry—if I get tired, I'll just rest my head on the desk for a while." Seeing the worry in Corin's eyes, Jiang Ge felt his weariness fade slightly. "Besides, most of the work is already done. I'll be going to rest soon too."

"Resting your head on the desk... that can't be good for your health. And besides..."

Besides, his claim that he would rest soon was surely a lie.

Having been by Jiang Ge's side for so long, Corin knew his habits all too well. Just yesterday, he had been out all night and returned only in the morning to catch up on sleep. Even then, a few phone calls had interrupted his rest, leaving him exhausted and far from well-rested.

His current state couldn't possibly be good.

Corin desperately wanted Jiang Ge to rest now, but she had no idea how to convince him.

"Hmm... Huh?"

Just as Corin was fretting, she suddenly remembered the advice Rina had given her a few days ago when she was reporting on her work. Rina had said it would be very effective with Jiang Ge under special circumstances. Even though Rina hadn't interacted much with Jiang Ge, she had spoken with great confidence. So Corin decided to give it a try.

"Um, Mr. Jiang Ge..."

"What is it, little Corin?"

"I just wanted to ask... would you like me to provide a sleep-assistance service tonight?"

With her face flushed red, Corin cautiously asked while lowering her head, not daring to look at Jiang Ge's expression. However, after a long wait, she received no response from him.

"Mr. Jiang Ge?"

Finally unable to resist, Corin looked up, only to find that Jiang Ge had somehow already vanished from the office.

Just as Corin was feeling puzzled, Jiang Ge's voice came from the bedroom on the right.

"Corin, I'm all ready now."
