Aegon rubbed his temple furiously, muttering, "Fucking roommates."
After he slammed the door, he leaned back against the wall by the side.
Visibly green with disgust, "you didn't even lock the door or anything."
In that moment, he paid attention, he hadn't before because of the sheer embarrassment of what was happening but when he did— it clicked.
The girl— so to speak, wasn't human. From the pink complexion of her skin, not from flush but actually pink then up to her head where twin horns jutted from her skull and warped her head.
Whatever she was, she wasn't human.
He wasted no time asking for permission before kicking the door open.
The guy stood weirdly, tugging the hem of the hoodie he hurriedly put on exposing her bare torso, sweatpants that looked a little worn out and damp hair that clung to his forehead.
"Uhmm," He stuttered, "Hi, I'm Eli."
Aegon paid him no heed, right now he was in a hunt for answers. He scanned the room but no one was in it and there weren't any places to hide.
He saw the door at the corner, sidestepped Eli and shoved the door open.
Eli just turned to observe him as he jumped around in circles like a monkey looking for its missing banana.
The bathroom was clean too.
"She's," Eli mumbled, "she's not here anymore."
Aegon marched up to him, looking Eli in his blue eyes, "what the hell was that?"
"It's not what you think, she's my beast summon—"
Aegon tilted back, not letting him finish, "You're having sex with your summons, it's that animal abuse or something?"
"No. No. No." Eli waved him off, "She's a succubus, she basically made a beast contract with me, I can summon her and call upon her strength but only if we have sex at least twice a day."
'Twice a day? How much stamina does this guy have?'
His mouth hung open and he stared at Eli blankly.
Eli, feeling the need to defend himself, "It's not like I'm some sex addict or something..."
'You definitely are dude.'
"It's just that's how she regains her strength and that's the deal I made with her."
Eli finished but Aegon still said nothing, it was too weird.
Eli extended his arm out for a handshake, "What's your name?"
Aegon's eyes trailed down to his palm and then up, first his sweaty torso then up to his still heaving chest before finally settling on his eyes.
"I'm not shaking you after what I just saw, man."
Eli casually slid his hand back into his pocket, "Alright that's fair. Just don't snitch on me, will you?"
'Of course that's what he's worried about.'
But said, "As long as you don't have sex in my bed I'm good."
"Err..." Eli dragged out while scratching the back of his head, "Actually—"
"You had sex in my bed!" Aegon snapped, "Dude, I barely know you and even if I did that'd still be weird."
"It's not my fault," He defended, "Trixie, that's my succubus' name, said it'd be hotter on someone else's bed."
Aegon furiously shut his eyes and took several deep breaths, 'This is what I get for having a roommate.'
He took a good look at the room, three beds— two at opposite sides of the door and one at the far end, simple and sturdy.
He walked over to the window beside the bed at the far end— it overlooked a pool and a plain field beyond.
He turned back, beside each bed was a wardrobe/drawer structure for their belongings.
The bathroom was a simple tub and a toilet, white tiled with a mirror hung on the wall. Minimalistic and reliable.
He turned to his bed, evident by the name Aegon Dhalar stamped on the frame— the rumpled sheets, the smell of sweat and bodily fluids.
"No," Aegon shook his head, "You had sex in it so you sleep in it."
Eli shrugged.
"Fair game."
Aegon took the uniform neatly folded on top of the dresser and moved it to the other bed.
He finally sunk into the soft sheets, it had been a hell of a day.
He opened his eyes to see Eli standing uncomfortably.
"Soo," Aegon struck a conversation, "Did you miss orientation just to have sex like a creep?"
He was still a little pissed over everything.
"Wow," Eli froze for a second before responding, "You're never gonna get over this, are you?"
"Nope," he said finally, "Not anytime soon... Look two rules when you're living with me.
One, and I never thought I'd have to say this, never ever have sex in my bed and two, if you're planning on having sex in the room either text or call or leave a hanger or sock on the door.
I'd get the memo."
Eli just nodded as he reached the opposite bed and sat down.
"How was orientation? The same boring shit like always?"
"Haa," Aegon scoffed, "Like you'd know what happened."
"I actually do, I have a sister here so I already know how most things work, firstly, probably Mirage came and gave you all the gloomy speech to let reality sink in, then...
Nightwalker comes in, in all his Spandex glory, saying some shit about how you're all chosen by the gods and how he's a God with a big 'G'."
Aegon shit his back up, "That's way too true, how'd you know that?"
"Because..." Eli took a deep breath, about to monologue, "The Academy has to tell you the truth, out of that fifty percent chosen only thirty-five survive and out of those thirty-five only thirty survive the next trial.
And the number drops every year, the more people who awaken the more people who die and the trials just get harder and harder.
I think that's why the system had mercy and gave us the option of staying at Adept rank once we survive the trial."
A luxury that Aegon couldn't afford, the system made it very clear that he'd have all trials mandatory till he surpassed the Paragon trial.
Which brought up a valid question he'd been pondering.
"What rank's above Paragon?"
"None," Eli scoffed, "They only name ranks when people surpass them but since no one's ever survived the trial above it, it's never been named."
"What about Nightwalker, why doesn't he go for the trail?"
"Because he'd die, only five awakened have bothered going for the trial above Paragon and they either withered away or turned into anomalies, specifically melas to Thrall ranked anomalies.
And when an anomaly of that magnitude pops up, it costs millions of civilian lives, thousands of awakened and is hell to get rid of.
The last person to try the next trial turned into a Thrall ranked anomaly and required all the Paragons left to deal with it.
It cost the world three Paragons and destroyed an entire nation.
Leaving us with five Paragons left and none of whom have the balls to go for the next trial."
"Damn, so no one can survive it?"
"No one has, yet."
~Knock. Knock. Knock.~
They both whipped their heads to see who it was—
A girl with auburn hair and girl monolid eyes, sport a pair of loose jeans and a blue shirt.
Aegon pointed at her, "You're the same girl from orientation."
