Chapter 134 - Chapter 135: Overcoming Skill with Brute Force

The game was about to start.

The offense for the opening drive belonged to the New York Giants, wearing their white dominant, red-accented jerseys.

The defense was the New England Patriots, decked out in their blue dominant, white-accented uniforms.

As the quarterback for the offense, Luke stood behind the center, waiting for the snap.

The human wall formed by the center and the five other teammates in front of him provided a strong sense of security, as the big guys in the front line were all tall, strong players.

A quick rundown of the rules of American football:

It's essentially a game of territory played on a field 120 yards long and 53 yards wide (one yard is equal to 0.914 meters).

The offense's goal is to carry the ball into the defense's end zone for 6 points.

The defense's goal is to stop the opposing team from getting the ball into the end zone.

The offense gets 4 attempts (downs) to advance the ball 10 yards. If they succeed, they get a new set of 4 downs. Otherwise, possession changes, and the other team goes on offense.

Both teams have 11 players on the field, the same as soccer.

"Beep!"

With the referee's whistle, the game officially began!

The center quickly tossed the ball backward into the hands of Luke, the quarterback.

Luke, holding the ball, immediately started sprinting toward the front-right.

The opposing defensive players instantly swarmed toward him like sharks smelling blood!

If they could tackle Luke, it would be a "sack." The spot where Luke was tackled would be the starting point for the New York Giants' next play, effectively pushing the offense back several yards.

"Thud!"

"Thud!"

"Thud!"

Luke's teammates rushed forward, intentionally colliding with the opposing players to form a shield, clearing the way for Luke to run forward with the ball.

Luke keenly avoided the most crowded area and continued his sprint down the right side toward the Patriots' end zone.

As the newly crowned champions, the New England Patriots' defensive line wouldn't be broken so easily.

Two linebackers quickly charged at him, moving with the speed of a hawk pouncing on a rabbit!

They approached from the left and right, coordinating perfectly, and instantly closed in on Luke, completely blocking his running lane.

"Whoosh!"

One of the linebackers lunged forward, making a diving tackle. His outstretched arms were just about to wrap around Luke and bring him down hard.

"I got you!" The opponent's laughing expression was clearly visible even through his facemask.

No way to dodge! Luke made an instant judgment. All his angles of escape were locked down on both sides.

If I can't dodge, I won't!

Luke accelerated without hesitation, smashing directly into the opponent's side.

"BAM!"

A massive crash echoed out, like two steel trucks slamming into each other, creating a spine-chilling sound.

"Fck!"

To everyone's shock, the linebacker, who was six-foot-five and weighed over 220 pounds, was sent flying backward.

"Are you serious?! Luke is only 167 pounds! He just sent a 220-pound guy flying?" one spectator exclaimed in disbelief.

"That's his old data from the fight with Tyson. He's bulked up to 183 pounds now."

"Does 183 pounds sending 220 pounds flying make any more sense?"

"The point is the first part! He sent 220-pound Tyson flying when he was 167 pounds. Of course it's reasonable now that he's bulked up!"

"Oh my God, is he using the power-generating techniques of Martial art in the game?"

"He must be. I knew Luke wouldn't step onto the field without absolute confidence!"

The audience members started buzzing with discussion. On the field, Luke also stumbled backward after the fierce impact.

But he immediately followed with a quick backflip to absorb the momentum. The moment his feet touched the ground, he continued his mad dash forward.

With one less linebacker blocking him, Luke quickly crossed the 10-yard mark, which meant the Giants earned another complete set of four downs and successfully advanced the line of scrimmage.

But Luke wasn't satisfied yet and continued to sprint toward the opponents' end zone.

Sensing trouble, several safeties in the opposing backfield had to leave their positions and join the linebacker to try and block Luke's running path.

Seeing the opponents' reaction, a smile appeared on Luke's face: He had finally achieved his goal.

The tactic that Luke and the New York Giants had rehearsed over the past two days was incredibly simple:

When the play started, the offensive line (center, guards, tackles, etc.) would aggressively step forward, blocking the opposing defensive line man-for-man to create an open lane for Luke to charge through.

Then, Luke would rely on his world-class physical fitness and the master-level force generation techniques from his Kung Fu to storm forward like a bulldozer. A small number of one or two defensive players in the backfield simply couldn't tackle him.

To stop him, the defense would have to commit more players to pile on him.

But as soon as the opponent did that, a gap would appear in their backfield defense.

Luke would just throw a timely pass based on the situation, and his teammate could easily run in for a touchdown.

You could say the tactic was simple, brutal, and lacked any technical complexity or variety. It only took a short time for Luke and his teammates to sync up and use it effectively in a game.

However, for their opponents, it was almost impossible to stop.

This was Luke's philosophy of "Overcoming a hundred skills with a single force" (or brute force overcoming skill).

At this moment, Luke had drawn the attention of three defensive players, and a huge hole immediately opened up in the opponents' left flank.

One of Luke's teammates seized the opportunity and sprinted straight toward the opponents' end zone.

Seeing the timing was perfect, Luke leaped high and launched the football!

"What?! He's throwing from this far? How is that even going to be accurate?"

"That ball speed is insane! Is he trying to hit someone with it?"

"The difficulty of that pass is comparable to a half-court shot in basketball."

"What a wasted opportunity. Why didn't he play it safe? They advanced at least 20 yards on that opening play! Too bad."

The New York Giants receiver, however, didn't even turn his head. He didn't look at the ball, only focused on sprinting as fast as he could.

"It was already hard to catch, and he's not even looking? I guess there's no hope for that one."

"I don't even know what they're trying to d—Oh my GOD!"

The next moment, the swiftly flying football seemed to have eyes of its own, drilling perfectly into the receiver's arms.

Could a ball thrown by Luke, using his Master-level Knife Throwing skills, ever miss?

The receiver simply tucked the ball effortlessly and took two more steps, arriving in the opponents' end zone.

Touchdown! Six points!

Immediately following that was a successful extra-point kick for one more point.

Seeing this play, the entire audience in the stadium fell silent.

Is this how football is supposed to be played?

Isn't it supposed to be a tight battle where advancing 10 yards over four downs is already a success?

But you just scored on the very first down of the game?!

And your opponent is the newly crowned championship team!
