Chapter 219: Shiny Snivy
Currently, however, this Snivy appeared to be heavily injured and unconscious.
Judging by the looks of it, these injuries were almost certainly caused by the Ariados. On top of that, it was tied up tight in Ariados's silk.
Clearly, this Snivy was the prey Ariados had caught during its night hunt.
Checking the map, Kenji knew that there was indeed a Snivy clan living not far from here.
Snivy, as a starter Pokémon, was naturally disadvantaged against the Poison/Bug type Ariados.
But the Snivy line's final evolution, Serperior, had base stats far surpassing those of Ariados. In this forest, the Serperior clan was one of the top-tier apex predators.
With the protection of its clan, a Snivy shouldn't have ended up on an Ariados's menu.
As mentioned before:
Shiny Pokémon, due to their strange coloration, were often viewed as anomalies in the wild and expelled from their groups.
It was highly likely that this Snivy had been exiled by its own clan because it was a shiny variant.
Without protection, it became an easy target for the nocturnal hunter Ariados.
Thinking of this, Kenji couldn't help but turn his head to look at Mankey, who was still casually picking its nose.
If Mankey hadn't accidentally intercepted Ariados, the spider would have dragged Snivy back to its nest by now and enjoyed a hearty meal.
Suddenly, even Mankey's nose-picking looked heroic in Kenji's eyes.
It was a close call. Snivy had nearly become spider food.
An S- Potential Shiny Snivy ending up as lunch? That would have been a tragic waste.
"Help me untie this silk. Be careful not to hurt the Snivy inside."
Kenji walked quickly to Snivy and spoke to Ninetales.
Spider silk was sticky and incredibly tough. It would be hard for Kenji to free the Pokémon without accidentally hurting it.
Ninetales used its psychic power to carefully peel away the layers of silk, one by one.
In no time, Snivy was freed from its cocoon.
Snivy was badly hurt. The wounds on its body looked quite severe.
Kenji rummaged through his backpack. Soon, he pulled out a bottle of potion spray, some ointment, and a medicinal drink.
He gently pried open Snivy's mouth and poured the medicinal drink down its throat.
Then, he applied the ointment and spray to its external wounds.
After patching it up, Kenji took out a Heal Ball from his bag.
Kenji rarely used standard Poké Balls anymore.
All his Pokémon had been transferred into Ultra Balls.
If a standard Poké Ball was like the cramped rental apartment Kenji lived in before his college entrance exams, an Ultra Ball was like the luxury villa he lived in now.
Besides the different internal environments, specialized balls like the Heal Ball had unique effects. As the name suggested, a Heal Ball's primary function was to fully heal the Pokémon caught inside and restore their vitality.
Kenji opened the Heal Ball. A gentle pink light engulfed Snivy, drawing it inside.

Putting away the Heal Ball, Kenji turned his attention back to the Ariados still held by Ninetales.
The spider had no strength left to struggle—or rather, it had given up resisting.
Kenji dug around in his bag again, pulling out a small bag of High-Grade Bug-type Pokéblocks and a Potion. He walked over to Ariados.
With Ninetales suppressing it, he wasn't afraid of a sudden attack.
Standing in front of Ariados, Kenji tossed a Pokéblock into its mouth, then uncorked the Potion and poured it in as well.
As the delicious taste of the energy block and the healing effects of the potion kicked in simultaneously...
Ariados's eyes lit up.
Kenji placed the remaining bag of Pokéblocks in front of Ariados and said apologetically, "Sorry for stealing your prey. This is compensation."
He stepped back to a safe distance before signaling Ninetales to release the hold.
Regaining its freedom, Ariados shot out a thread to snag the bag of Pokéblocks. It then lowered its head slightly toward Kenji.
It seemed to be thanking him. Then, it scuttled into the bushes and vanished into the jungle.
The energy provided by that bag of Pokéblocks far exceeded what it would have gotten from eating that skinny little Snivy. Ariados was thrilled with the trade.
After sending Ariados on its way, Kenji recalled Mankey and Ninetales.
He then released Beedrill.
Worried about the heavily injured Snivy, Kenji changed his travel plans. He switched from traveling by land to traveling by air.
His mount changed from Ninetales to Beedrill.
The original plan to arrive in Spring City tomorrow afternoon was compressed. He would arrive this afternoon.
At 3:00 PM, Kenji appeared at the Pokémon Center in Spring City.
The first thing he did was get Snivy a comprehensive physical examination.
Life in the wild was harsh.
Wild Pokémon didn't have the luxuries of captured ones—no guaranteed food, no Pokémon Centers to heal injuries.
Most high-level wild Pokémon carried old scars or chronic injuries from years of fighting for survival.
The good news was that although this Snivy had suffered greatly due to being exiled as a Shiny, its old injuries were treatable. With proper care and rest, it would fully recover.
After retrieving Snivy from the nurse, Kenji took its Heal Ball to the Pokémon Center's training room.
"Come on out, Snivy."
"Snivi..."
With a flash of red light, the small, bipedal snake Pokémon appeared on the field.
Finding itself in a completely unfamiliar environment, Snivy immediately tensed up. It looked around vigilantly, eyes darting everywhere, finally landing on its new trainer.
