Chapter 133: The Sleepy Elekid
Kenji didn't have to wait long. Within half an hour, Elekid's check-up report was out.
"Doctor, is there anything wrong with this Elekid?"
The doctor responsible for examining Elekid was a woman in her thirties. Hearing Kenji's question, she smiled warmly. "Don't worry. Your Elekid's condition is quite stable. There aren't any major problems."
"Then why is it so sleepy?" Kenji voiced his confusion.
It was true that infant Pokémon mostly ate and slept.
But the problem was, this Elekid slept way too much. From the moment he caught it until they returned to Jinling City, it had slept the entire way.
The doctor adjusted her glasses. "The situation is this: your Elekid has accumulated an extremely massive amount of electrical energy in its body. The amount is so great that it could overload even an Electabuzz."
Kenji's eyes widened, momentarily stunned by the doctor's words.
One moment she said there were no major problems, and the next she said Elekid had enough stored energy to overload an Electabuzz.
Seeing Kenji's heart jump into his throat again, the doctor quickly reassured him. "You don't need to be too nervous. Like I said, Elekid itself has no major issues. Although the stored electrical energy is massive...
"From its current condition, this energy is extremely stable within Elekid. Not only is it not harming Elekid's body...
"On the contrary, Elekid is constantly absorbing this energy. The reason for its lethargy is likely because it's digesting the energy within its body."
Hearing the doctor's explanation, Kenji finally relaxed a little, understanding what was going on.
It was like how humans get sleepy after eating too many carbs—a food coma.
For Elekid, this was basically an "electric coma."
"Barring any accidents, Elekid will likely remain in this lethargic state until it fully absorbs the energy within its body," the doctor added.
"Understood. Thank you, doctor."
Having figured out the reason for Elekid's sleepiness, Kenji left with the Pokémon, deep in thought.
Ultimately, he connected Elekid's anomaly to Raikou.
Perhaps when Raikou was healing, it summoned lightning to treat its injuries.
The overflowing electrical energy was then absorbed by the unhatched Elekid, leading to the massive stockpile of energy in its body upon birth.
Kenji couldn't say for sure whether this was a good thing or a bad thing.
However, one thing was certain: Elekid didn't need to eat right now.
Elekid's species naturally fed on electricity. With so much stored inside, it probably couldn't stomach any Pokéblocks.
Kenji wondered if there were any "digestive aids" specifically for Elekid to help it absorb the energy faster.
For the next few days, Kenji didn't dive headfirst into training as usual. instead, he took his Pokémon around Jinling City to eat, drink, and have fun.
His Pokémon's potential was, at worst, S+.
Kenji had realized that even if his Pokémon didn't train so hard, with their aptitude, they would eventually reach the top regardless.
In that case, whether they climbed fast or slow didn't matter much. Instead of rushing the ascent, why not enjoy the scenery along the way?
Of course, there was one exception.
Gyarados.
Perhaps due to the trauma of being bullied as a Magikarp, Gyarados's determination to become stronger was terrifyingly steadfast.
Kenji could only cater to its preference, investing more energy into Gyarados's training.
It was winter, and the sky darkened quickly. By 7 PM, it was already dark.
Kenji sat by the lake, watching the shimmering water reflect the city lights. Beside him sat Ninetales in human form, holding Bellossom in her arms.
On the grass nearby, Elekid was fast asleep.
On the other side, Vigoroth was wrestling with Pupitar.
A westerly wind blew across the lake, rippling the water. Kenji shivered.
Ninetales silently raised her body temperature a few degrees, driving away the chill for Kenji.
"It's time to move on."
After resting in Jinling City for a few more days, it was nearly mid-December. Less than a month remained until the New Year.
Vigoroth, after venting its energy recently, was still restless but no longer possessed that excessive, manic vitality.
As for Elekid, it had ended its infancy early and begun leveling up.
In just a few days, it had automatically reached level 5.
Leveling up this fast just by sleeping—without a doubt, the energy within its body was starting to take effect.
His other Pokémon had also made varying degrees of progress.
The Exceptional-grade Electirizer Marina promised had been delivered two days ago.
Next, Kenji needed to prepare to head to his next destination: Crestview City.
It was the location of the Summit Gym.
Crestview City was located in the center of Summit Province.
To get there, he would inevitably pass through Edgecliff City.
But since there was still plenty of time before the New Year, Kenji planned to secure the Summit Gym Badge first before returning to Edgecliff.
Back at the Pokémon Center, Kenji began preparing for the next leg of his journey.
"Preparing" wasn't much work. His backpack was already packed with travel essentials; the only thing he needed to restock was Pokéblocks.
Kenji also made a trip to the Riverton Gym to bid farewell to Marina and his little fanboy, Johnny.
"I truly look forward to seeing your performance at the National League Championship," Marina said with a smile.
Kenji smiled faintly, confident. "I won't let you down."
The next morning, Kenji and Ninetales set off again.
Just after leaving Jinling City, Kenji headed straight for Mount Blackthunder.
With Ninetales as a mount and Mount Blackthunder being close to the city, they arrived at the foot of the mountain in no time.
Kenji looked up at the peak, wondering if Raikou had left.
It had still been raining frequently in Jinling City these past few days, but compared to when Kenji first arrived, it was much better.
