Chapter 70 - Chapter 70 – Deal with Spandam

Kalifa went to contact the World Government.

After thinking for a long time, she finally chose to contact Spandam.

She had no choice. Canceling a kill-on-sight order required someone who could actually speak within the World Government.

Among the people Kalifa knew, only Spandam had that kind of pull.

"Kalifa… you useless trash still dare to contact me?"

Spandam's vicious voice crackled from the Den Den Mushi.

Kalifa calmly pushed up her glasses. "We've obtained concrete intel on the Pluton blueprints from Iceburg."

"We can hand Iceburg over to the World Government. In return… the kill order on all of us must be canceled."

Spandam froze for a moment, then laughed sharply. "Just because you say you have intel, I'm supposed to believe it? It took you six years with nothing to show. Now you suddenly have 'definite intel'? I don't buy it."

Kalifa knew she had to throw out something big or this bastard wouldn't budge.

"We've confirmed that Franky of Water 7 is actually Tom's apprentice… Cutty Flam. The Pluton blueprints are in his hands."

"With Iceburg's relationship to him, as long as we have Iceburg… Franky will definitely show himself. And once he appears, the blueprints are easy to take."

"Oh? That confident?" Spandam sounded surprised.

"Of course. Iceburg is practically Franky's family. He would never abandon him."

Kalifa's voice was firm and sure.

"Spandam… even if you weren't punished this time, the destruction of Enies Lobby definitely affected your standing."

"But if you deliver the Pluton blueprints… all of that disappears."

Kalifa threw out an irresistible bait.

Spandam went silent for a long time. "Fine. Hand Iceburg over to me. I'll find a way to cancel the kill order."

She had hit the mark.

Even though Spandam had dodged responsibility, as the official in charge of Enies Lobby, his reputation had taken a hit. His standing with the Five Elders had definitely dropped.

He needed something enormous to regain favor.

Kalifa's face brightened instantly. "Good. Then it's a deal."

Truthfully, she wasn't completely sure. But at this point… certainty didn't matter. They had no other choice.

If this didn't work out, they would figure something out later. Anything was better than staying on a kill list.

She delivered the good news to Lucci and the others. Their long-held tension finally loosened.

"Finally… this nightmare is getting sorted out. I've been on edge for days." Kumadori collapsed onto a sofa with a dead-fish expression.

Lucci shook his head. "It's not time to relax yet. Get Iceburg out of here. We wait for Spandam's people first."

Kaku lifted the heavily injured Iceburg, and the group headed toward a safehouse.

All of this was clearly seen by Oguro and the others not far away.

"Lord Oguro… aren't we going to rescue Mr. Iceburg?" Robin asked, confused.

"If Spandam gets him, Lucci and the others might really make it back into CP9."

Oguro smiled faintly, his tone meaningful. "Robin… you still don't understand Spandam."

The clever Robin quickly understood. "You're saying Spandam will take Iceburg… but he'll never take Lucci's group back. He'll break his promise."

Oguro nodded with satisfaction. "To Spandam, promises are worthless. All he cares about is whether he can rise in rank."

"To him, Lucci's group is disobedient… and they've seen him at his most pathetic."

"With Spandam's personality, he would never allow them to return to the World Government."

"If I'm right, once he gets Iceburg… Lucci's group will be hunted down."

A group of subordinates who never listened, and now they were about to achieve a merit bigger than his own. For someone like Spandam, that was absolutely unacceptable.

Not only would he kill them all… he would take all the credit for himself.

Reality matched Oguro's guess perfectly.

Inside a certain World Government facility, Spandam went to see his father.

"Father… Lucci and the others found the location of the Pluton blueprints."

His father, Spandine, glanced at him calmly. "What do you want?"

A crazed light flashed in Spandam's eyes.

"I want a CP0 unit assigned to me. Once Iceburg is in my hands… I want every one of those fugitive CP9 members executed on the spot."

Spandine's cold face finally showed a smile.

"Good. That's my son. The Pluton blueprints are too important… how could we let a bunch of expelled failures offer them to the Five Elders?"

"I'll contact CP0 and have them support you."

In the original timeline, even a waste like Spandam could enter CP0 thanks to his father's arrangements. Calling in a small squad now was nothing difficult.

"Once you recover the Pluton blueprints, I'll rise again… and you'll enter CP0 properly."

Spandine spoke with heavy emphasis.

"CP0 is known as the greatest shield of the Celestial Dragons. You'll have many chances to meet those lords."

"If you win their favor, power and wealth will fall right into your hands. Don't waste this chance."

Spandam was shaking with excitement. "Father… I won't disappoint you!"

Joining CP0… serving the Celestial Dragons… rising straight to the top.

He could already see his glorious future.

And to reach that dream… Lucci and the others had to die.

All the credit would belong to him alone.

On Water 7, in an abandoned shipyard…

The place was piled high with discarded ship parts and all kinds of garbage. It was the dirtiest and most chaotic place in the city, a place almost no one ever visited.

Lucci chose this location to hand over Iceburg to avoid being seen.

After all, Iceburg's disappearance had already driven Galley-La half mad.

"How much longer?" Lucci asked.

Kalifa checked the time. "Five minutes."

Iceburg was tied up on the ground, weak and barely responsive.

Lucci's group had treated his injuries, but they weren't doctors. Iceburg's condition was still terrible.

"Rob Lucci."

A cold voice echoed across the shipyard.

Everyone turned sharply and saw three figures approaching… white suits, masks covering their faces.

"CP0…"

Lucci and the others were visibly shocked.

These were direct agents of the Celestial Dragons. The fact that Spandam could mobilize them was absurd.

"Hand over Iceburg. Your task is done." The burly leader of the CP0 trio spoke with a deep voice.

Lucci stayed silent for a moment before suddenly asking…

"Where's Spandam?"

"He said he would help us cancel the kill order. Why isn't he here?"
