Chapter 245 - Chapter 245: The Assassin, He's Starting to Test Me

Jiang Zhi was completely absorbed in her quest to recapture Fu Xici, and I worried that if she learned the truth, things would get worse.

After all, in front of someone as high-ranking as Su Ning'an, it's easy to see through her.

So I persuaded her, "You should go back now. Chinese New Year is almost here, and their wedding isn't far off. Don't make things complicated now."

"Why should I leave? I'm not some filthy thing to be seen with."

I silently grumbled inwardly, "You're not even an illegitimate daughter, so what are you if not filthy?"

Facing a single-celled organism, I still had to offer some kindly advice: "Are you sure you want to go in? The Su family is here today. Don't forget that even though you've been cleared of all charges, they don't see it that way. Su Nanfeng and the assassin had no grudges, so how could he have been assassinated? Don't underestimate the love a parent has for their child. I'm afraid they'll be on your back soon after you go in."

At the mention of this relationship, Jiang Zhi felt a flicker of fear. Although she didn't mean to, Su Nanfeng's death was indirectly caused by her.

"It's already this late, it's better to avoid trouble. I'm afraid if something happens to you and you can't follow the plan."

She glared at me. "I'll listen to you just this once."

She turned and left.

I breathed a sigh of relief. She finally listened!

If she had stayed, I'd have seen Fu Xici and Su Ning'an being affectionate, and I was afraid she'd flip the table.

I checked the time and turned to Shen Ji. "Ayan is almost here. Go pick him up."

After all, in public, Lu Yanchen still appeared disabled, and this persona had to be maintained.

I don't quite understand why, even though his legs had long since healed, he kept hiding and pretending.

"Yes, ma'am, be careful." Shen Ji turned and left.

This is the Fu family. No matter how bold Su Ning'an was, he couldn't attack me at this moment.

I breathed a sigh of relief after dealing with Jiang Zhi.

I was getting closer and closer to my goal. I crossed the courtyard and headed toward the residence. At the next corner, I nearly bumped into a tall man.

He was dressed in servant's clothes and clutched a machete, still dripping with blood.

"Excuse me," the man's voice was deep and hoarse.

The moment I looked up and met his gaze, my heart seemed to stop, and my body went rigid.

It was him!

The man who killed me stood before me. His face had changed, but I'll never forget those fierce, three-white eyes.

He had infiltrated the Fu family and was still working there as a servant.

Blood trickled down the blade, a scene remarkably reminiscent of the night I died.

My body instinctively trembled.

Move quickly, don't let him see what's going on, I silently told myself.

But fear was ingrained in my instincts, and he seemed to be observing my reaction. His eyes fixed on me, just like that night when he stabbed me and I fell to the ground, he stared down at me in that same condescending manner.

He didn't say a word until I lost consciousness.

My gaze fell on the dead chicken he held in his left hand. It turned out he had been killing one.

My face paled and I cried out, "Ah, so much blood!"

My cry attracted the others, and an old woman hurried over to apologize.

"I'm sorry to have disturbed Mrs. Lu. This new guy is clueless. He just killed the chicken and didn't have time to clean it."

I couldn't disguise my fear, so I could only exaggerate it.

I covered my eyes with one hand. "I was so scared! I came over and saw him holding a bloody kitchen knife."

The old woman kicked him. "Why don't you apologize to Mrs. Lu?"

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Lu." His voice was raspy and harsh, as if his throat had been burned. "Hurry up, hurry up! Take the knife and the dead chicken away! It's terrifying!"

He left with the chicken, cursing at the aunt, and I was already trembling with fear.

I was so afraid he'd turn around and stab the aunt.

This kind of dog that doesn't bite is the most terrifying.

In TV dramas, villains always talk a lot before harming the protagonist, only to miss their chance.

In reality, only the truly ruthless would say a word.

He even lowered his footsteps as he stalked me, then without warning, stabbed me through with the knife.

From beginning to end, it was a clean, efficient operation, leaving me no chance of survival.

The aunt saw my pale face and knew that a rich girl like me, who had everything she wanted, was a life of luxury, and had never seen such bloodshed before, so it was natural for her to be frightened. "Mrs. Lu, you're scared, aren't you? It's okay, it's just a few chickens."

I patted my chest, still trembling with fear. "It was a bit scary the first time I saw it. I got lost and accidentally walked into the kitchen."

"Mrs. Lu, I'll take you back."

"Thank you."

I glanced at the person disappearing into the snow. His footsteps left a trail of blood.

It looked like he wasn't carrying chickens, but me.

"Who was that person just now? He looked scary," I asked deliberately.

"We all call him Dongzi. He's a quiet man, but he's incredibly efficient. He does all the dirty work in the kitchen, especially slaughtering chickens and ducks. No one wants to do it, but he's quick with his hands."

I was still terrified. If he could kill people, why would he use a butcher knife to kill chickens? "Dongzi? What's his last name?"

"I think it's Wei. Does Mrs. Lu know him?"

"No, I just think he looks scary."

The auntie chuckled. "Don't be fooled by his tall appearance; he's actually very considerate. Don't be afraid, Mrs. Lu."

"Okay, thank you, Auntie. I'm here."

"Come in, Mrs. Lu."

I nodded, my expression returning to normal as I prepared to go inside. Suddenly, I realized the brooch on my coat had fallen off at some point.

The brooch's price wasn't the main reason; it was Lu Yanchen's gift.

I saw it not long ago, probably on the same street.

I turned back to look for it.

On the porch, I found the kind auntie and Weidong together.

The woman who had greeted me with a smile and kindness before suddenly changed her expression.

Weidong asked her, "Did you see anything?"

The woman took the kitchen knife from Weidong's hand and wiped it with a towel, her expression dark. "No, she looked just like a spoiled young lady, but she did ask me one more question: your name."

Hearing this, I was terrified!

So, this woman and Weidong are in cahoots!

They were testing me!

Luckily, I didn't ask any more about Weidong, or I'd have been exposed.

So, Weidong wasn't the only one who entered the Fu family's house; he had accomplices.

The scariest thing is, they're starting to suspect me...

This place isn't safe anymore. I have to leave quickly.

"Who's there?"
