Chapter 227 - Chapter 227: Baby, Do You Miss Me?

After suffering a series of setbacks, the Su family had become much quieter than before. Mrs. Su only came over excitedly when Captain Huang appeared.

Jiang Qing, also unaware of what had happened, frowned. "You must be mistaken! My daughter and Su Nanfeng had no contact at all."

Mrs. Su also found it unlikely. "Yes, this...wasn't it an accident you said before? How did it become murder?"

"We'll have to wait until Miss Jiang cooperates with our investigation to find out what exactly happened. Okay, Miss Jiang, please come with us!"

Jiang Zhi looked at Jiang Qing in panic. "Dad, I'm being wrongly accused. I didn't kill anyone! I don't even know Su Nanfeng..."

Huang Yu immediately took her away.

Jiang Zhi probably didn't expect that after finally enjoying her moment of glory, something like this would happen.

Jiang Qing's dinner party had become a complete joke. I felt so bad for him.

Who told him to have a mistress and still dote on Jiang Zhi so much? A spoiled child, ultimately disregarding even human life.

When she was studying abroad, she'd always bullied her classmates. If anything went wrong, she could simply use the Jiang family's power and wealth to settle the matter.

She'd always had it easy.

Of course, this circumstance was changing, and she'd played into the hands of a ruthless character like Su Ning'an.

Su Ning'an only needed to make a slight move to push him to the limit of his level.

Jiang Zhi probably didn't even realize what had happened; she'd already been completely manipulated by Su Ning'an.

Watching her being led away, Su Ning'an supported Mrs. Su, who looked panicked. "What does Captain Huang mean? Didn't my son die in an accident?"

Su Ning'an advised, as always, "Mom, we don't know what happened. Let's wait for the police's results."

Su Nanfeng and Jiang Zhi couldn't possibly have anything in common.

Now, both families were in a state of confusion.

The dinner party naturally couldn't go on.

As Su Ning'an passed by me, he gave me a meaningful glare, as if warning me. If I interfere in her affairs again, Jiang Zhi will be my fate.

I feigned fear and looked away.

It was like the aftereffects of the knife threat she'd last time.

Su Ning'an helped Mrs. Su leave.

I was worried and wanted to stay with Mom, but Lu Yanchen received a call from Grandpa, telling us to go back to the Lu family's house.

"It's okay, Wanwan, you should go back first. You're a married woman now, and you can't stay at your parents' house all the time. It'll make people laugh."

"Mom, if you need anything, just call me. I'll be there in twenty minutes at most."

"Okay, don't worry. We have servants at home. I'm in the early stages of pregnancy, so it's probably nothing to worry about."

"I'll come see you tomorrow."

In my eyes, Mom was the one who needed care.

She was only ten years older than me in my previous life, like a sister.

Jiang Qing helped my mother into the car, his face heavy with worry over Jiang Zhi.

I reluctantly got in, and Lu Yanchen took my hand and placed it in his. "With the servants taking care of her, my mother-in-law will be fine."

"Yes."

I met his reassuring eyes and asked, "What about Jiang Zhi? What will happen to her this time?"

"If the evidence is solid and she's convicted of hiring a hit man, even with the best lawyer, she'll likely spend a few years in prison. The more serious the circumstances, the heavier the sentence."

"She deserves it! She forced Jiang Wanwan to death! Let her repent in prison."

"Alright, don't get yourself hurt by someone like that."

Lu Yanchen patted my shoulder gently. I held his large hand, my lips curled slightly. "After all these years, I didn't expect we still play so well together."

"How could I forget something so etched in my memory? Have you been practicing privately these past few years?"

I nodded sheepishly. "Occasionally, but not much, thanks to you, but..."

"Brother Ayan, what are you thinking about when you play the piano?"

He slowly leaned over and kissed me on the lips, softly uttering one word: "You."

The car stopped at the Lu residence. I reluctantly parted with him, a blush tinging my ears.

He handed me his coat with a gentlemanly grace. Wrapped in my thick down jacket, I wheeled him back to the Lu residence.

Old Master Lu sat on the sofa in the living room. Lu Shiyan had arrived before us and remained with him, silent.

I felt a little intimidated by the old man. I whispered, "Dad..."

The old man glanced up at us both, his tone still gentle, "You're back."

"Yeah."

"It's almost New Year, and there's a lot of things the Lu family needs you to take care of. I know your mother is pregnant, but since you're married into the Lu family, you still have to prioritize the Lu family."

I nodded, "I understand, Dad."

"It's getting late, go back and rest."

Lu Shiyan looked at me from behind, wanting to say something, but ultimately, he said nothing.

In the elevator, Lu Yanchen whispered to me, "The old man is old, and with New Year's approaching, he wants the whole family to be around. He didn't mean any other things."

"I understand."

I went back to my room and called Mom.

Mom said Jiang Qing had dropped her off and then left, probably to find a solution for Jiang Zhi.

I told Mom not to interfere, to just take good care of the baby, and that we just had to wait and see what happened.

Jiang Zhi deserved what she had ended up like this. After I hung up the phone, I was debating whether to sleep in the cubicle or in the master bedroom with Lu Yanchen. But he wasn't in the room.

My eyes lit up; I knew where he was.

The villa was warm, but I still threw on a shawl before leaving, slowly making my way to the attic in my slippers.

Lu Yanchen's status in the Lu family wasn't high before; back then, the old man even disdained him.

So, his room was in the attic.

Although it was spacious, it felt lonely and desolate.

As I ascended the banister, I heard the sound of a piano.

The piece we'd played together reminded Lu Yanchen of the past, and he began playing the piano again.

Just like twenty years ago, I held the hem of my skirt with one hand and pushed open the door with the other.

What met my eye was that familiar figure, a fusion of time and space.

The thin back of that youth had become immensely broad and broad now.

I closed the door behind me and sat down beside him. He'd already reserved a spot for me, as if he'd anticipated my arrival.

He was playing the very same piece, "Canon in D Major," which had been our first encounter twenty years earlier.

My fingers quickly followed his rhythm.

When the song ended, his hand rested on the back of mine, our eyes locked. He uttered only two words: "Wanwan..."

Thinking of the kiss we'd shared in the car, I sat on his lap.

It was strange; he was clearly disabled, but his thighs didn't seem weak at all.

At this moment, I didn't care. I put my arm around Lu Yanchen's neck and cautiously asked, "Can I... kiss you?"

Before I finished speaking, Lu Yanchen kissed me.
