Chapter 76 - Chapter 76 — Call the Police, Find Out If Su Wan Is Dead or Alive!

Su Ning'an screamed shrilly.Of course she did — she was there that night, she saw everything. When Lu Shiyan described my death, every word must've pierced through her nerves, dragging her right back into that blood-soaked memory. For a moment, her panic was so real she couldn't even control her expression.

Even my mother, though terrified, patted her shoulder and tried to comfort her."An'an, don't be afraid, it's okay."

Su Ning'an's psychological endurance was far stronger than most.Soon, she steadied her breathing, her face smoothing over into a calm mask.

"Brother," she said softly, "you've already seen the photos, haven't you? Huang Ying is just… mentally unstable. She doesn't even know what she's talking about."

Lu Shiyan shook his head stubbornly. "No. When I visited her, she was clear-headed. If you don't believe me, we can ask her again when she wakes up — she can tell you every detail herself."

Su Ning'an nodded with exaggerated gentleness."Alright, alright, we believe you. But Huang Ying is in the ICU now — we can't see her. Let's wait until she's better."Then, deliberately shifting the topic, she added, "The real problem is you. Do you know something's wrong with your body?"

That caught his attention immediately.Lu Shiyan turned toward her, frowning. "What do you mean?"

She didn't waste the chance to steer the conversation."This is the report from your emergency checkup," she said, handing him a folder. "Some of your results require further testing — particularly your kidneys and stomach. The doctor said the shadow in your stomach might be a tumor."

The word tumor hit the room like a thunderclap.A single difference — benign or malignant — meant a life or death sentence.

Lu Shiyan's eyes darkened. His hand went to his stomach. He'd been suffering from pain for months — he just hadn't cared enough to get it checked. Now fear began to creep up his spine.

"Book the tests for me. As soon as possible."

"I already did," Su Ning'an said quickly. "The endoscopy is scheduled for tomorrow morning. You can do the kidney scans today."

Lu Shiyan frowned. "But Huang Ying—"

"We'll wait a few days," she interrupted gently. "She's still too weak right now. Once she's stable, we'll ask her again. After all, Sister Wanwan is our family — if Huang Ying really knows something, we'll find out soon enough."

My mother muttered from the side, "That girl must've imagined things. How could she see Wanwan? Everyone talks about ghosts, but who's actually seen one? It's all superstition."

Lu Shiyan wanted to argue, but exhaustion had already settled deep into his bones. For now, the results of his own tests weighed heavier on his mind than anything else.

That night, he didn't sleep.Because of the upcoming endoscopy, he had to take a laxative at midnight to clear his system.

He sat by the window, pale under the cold moonlight, his phone glowing faintly in his hand.Again and again, he dialed my number — the same one that had long been disconnected.

It was almost pitiful. He could believe I was out there cheating on him, but not that I was already dead.

By morning, he was on the operating table, undergoing full anesthesia.

The procedure didn't take long. When it was over, the nurse spoke softly to Su Ning'an:"The patient may feel dizzy or nauseous — that's normal. Wait until he's fully awake before taking him home."

"When will the biopsy report come out?" she asked.

"Usually about a week," the nurse replied. "But we'll prioritize Mr. Lu's case."

While they talked, I sat on the windowsill, my legs swinging idly in the golden morning light.

Outside, sanitation workers shoveled snow from the streets. The little green plant on the windowsill trembled under the wind.

I reached out to touch the breeze —but wind, sunlight, and rain had no temperature for someone like me anymore.

Then, a hoarse whisper broke the silence.

"Wanwan…"

I turned my head — and met Lu Shiyan's eyes.

For a split second, our gazes locked.

He lurched up from the bed like a man possessed. The anesthesia hadn't even worn off; his legs gave way immediately, and he crashed to the floor with a heavy thud.

"Brother!"

Su Ning'an rushed to help him, but he shoved her aside violently.

He was looking straight at me, his face lit with unrestrained joy."Wanwan! You're back — you're finally back!"

To everyone else in the room, he looked utterly deranged —talking to empty air, chasing after nothing.

Just as he was about to reach me, his body gave out again. He fell hard, sprawling on the floor.

"Wanwan!"

When he lifted his head again, I was still there —but he couldn't see me anymore.

His fingers clawed at the air. "Where is she? I just saw her—"

"Brother, stop! Doctor! Doctor, please come quickly!" Su Ning'an screamed.

But he ignored her, muttering desperately,"I saw it — Huang Ying wasn't lying. Su Wan was right there, looking at us."

"Mr. Lu," the doctor said gently, "you're still under the effects of anesthesia. Hallucinations are normal."

My mother nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes! Listen to the doctor — you must be too tired. There's no one here, see? How could anyone sit on that narrow ledge?"

But Lu Shiyan shook his head violently."No, Mother, I saw her exactly as Huang Ying described — seventeen, maybe eighteen, her hair loose, wearing a white dress… barefoot."

The moment he said barefoot, my mother's face turned ashen. Her hands rubbed against her sleeves nervously, her eyes darting around the room as if something unseen might be watching.

"That's impossible," she muttered. "Impossible…"

Su Ning'an's tone was calm. "Doctor, this kind of delirium is common after anesthesia, right?"

"Yes," the doctor confirmed. "He'll recover once the medication wears off. Just let him rest."

My mother finally exhaled in relief."Thank goodness. He scared me half to death."

"Brother, listen to the doctor," Su Ning'an said softly. "You're hallucinating because you miss Sister too much. Lie down and rest, okay?"

She exchanged a quick glance with my mother, and they both reached to help him back onto the bed.

But before they could touch him, Lu Shiyan suddenly shoved them both aside and bolted out of the room.

His voice echoed down the corridor, loud and raw:

"I saw her! Huang Ying was right! Su Wan is dead — my Wanwan is dead!"

"Shiyan! Stop!" my mother shouted after him, slapping her thigh in panic."Where are you going now?"

Lu Shiyan turned his head slightly, his eyes bloodshot, and said every word like a vow:

"I'm going to the police.I want the truth.I want to know if Su Wan is really dead — or still alive."
