Chapter 4 - walking around the city

Yup, there it is.

Ykri let out a bitter sigh in her mind before shaking her head and saying, "There's nothing to worry about. I was just… overwhelmed by my new appearance. Also, I kinda wanted to test out my powers."

"That's not how—" Superman began, but he was suddenly cut off by a thunderous explosion echoing through the city. His head snapped toward the sound, then back to her.

"I'll be back. Stay here," he said quickly before vanishing in a blur of red and blue.

Ykri stood there, completely speechless. Like She wasn't mentally preparing herself to deal with all of his questions.

"Wow… just fucking wow," she muttered, dragging a hand down her face.

With a shrug, she turned toward the door behind her and started walking. "No way I'm waiting around for him to come back," she said under her breath. "And honestly—thank god to whoever decided to blow something up right now. You're the real hero."

Ykri walked down the street, occasionally catching people staring at her—or worse, watching them turn around for a second look. The children were the most brutal, pointing at her and whispering things like "weird lady" loud enough for her to hear.

"Damn," she muttered under her breath, feeling her pride take a small but noticeable hit.

There wasn't much she could do to hide her current… cat-like features, after all.

At least she only had the ears. Her pupils were slit like a cat's too, but those were safely hidden behind her oval-shaped glasses.

"Thank god I don't have a tail," she muttered under her breath. Not that she'd mind having one—it'd probably be kinda cute—but still, she preferred not standing out that much.

She made a mental note to check later if she actually did have a tail hidden somewhere. But for now, that wasn't the priority.

Right now, all her focus was on the phone in her hand.

Now, you might be wondering where Ykri even got that phone from, right?

Well, the answer was simple — as the saying goes, finders keepers.

She'd seen a man place his phone on a café table while he went to pick up his order, and… well, somehow, the device just mysteriously appeared in Ykri's hand a few moments later. Nothing more, nothing less. Pure coincidence. Definitely not theft.

The process of getting the phone to actually work was even simpler. After all, she had her powers. Her Technological Control allowed her to control almost any piece of tech—as long as she had a basic understanding of how it functioned.

For example, she could control a smartphone easily since she knew how it worked: circuits, signals, processors, the usual stuff. But trying to control, say, an alien spaceship without any clue how it operated? Yeah, not happening.

That's why, the moment she got a proper base of operations, she planned to start studying everything tech-related she could get her hands on.

Yukri walked into a small café, eyes fixed on the phone in her hand. She ordered a cold coffee,an paid it with the money she had "found" on street and took a seat by the window, and quietly sipped while pretending to scroll. To anyone watching, it probably looked like she was just zoning out at nothing—but in truth, her eyes were focused on the faint black mission screen floating in front of her.

Mission: House the HomelessDescription: Capture SCP-2000Status: Not TakenReward: A place to stayDuration: NoneThreat: SafeFailure: Difficulty finding housing

"This could do," Yukri muttered, tapping her finger against the cup as she considered it.

From what Yukri knew of the lore, SCP-2000 was supposed to be humanity's ultimate fail-safe—a place designed to restart civilization from scratch.

Like, from scratch-scratch—as in "wiped-out-by-a-god-level-being" kind of scratch.

From what she knew from reading and watching lore videos"Damn, now I'm actually thankful for all those hours I dumped into reading wiki entries and watching lore videos. Guess it was all for this moment," she thought sheepishly.

This SCP contained everything humanity could possibly need to rebuild: medical supplies, food, weapons, and maybe even nukes if she got lucky.

Well… probably not the nukes. But honestly, there was never a full list of what was actually stored inside the thing, and that mystery only made it more tempting.

What really caught Yukri's attention, though, was the cloning function.

Theoretically, SCP-2000 could recreate any human being perfectly. If that was true, she could clone herself—send copies out to complete missions while her "real self" stayed safe. It could even become her personal failsafe, a foundation base where she could finally start rebuilding the SCP organization properly.

It sounded brilliant… until she considered the other side of it.

What if the clones didn't think they were clones? What if they believed they were the real Yukri?

She could practically feel the migraine coming on.

There were also other factors she hadn't considered like would SCP-2000 even recognize her as human?

Maybe yes, maybe no. It technically didn't have any direct attack capabilities, but still... there was always a chance. And even a small chance could snowball into something that killed her.

"Ahhh…" Yukri let out a long breath, bringing both hands to her face. She was definitely overthinking it, but this was a huge decision—one she couldn't afford to mess up.

Where would the SCP even appear if she summoned it? What if it spawned near a super hero base or even worse a villain base ? What if someone found the site before she did and turned it against her? The risks stacked up faster than she liked.

Yukri unconsciously tightened her grip on the phone as she ran through every possibility in her mind. After weighing all the positive and negative outcomes, she let out a long, resigned sigh.

She had made up her mind.

She was going to summon it.

After all… her real trump card wasn't luck, or strategy, or even the SCP itself. It was her power.

Technological Control.

If SCP-2000 was truly a technological marvel, then in theory, she could take full control of it—override every system, lock every door, maybe even rewrite its protocols. That alone made the risk worth considering.

Shaking her head to drive away the darker thoughts, Yukri stretched, her cat ears twitching slightly as she refocused on the mission screen.

"Please," she muttered under her breath, "let it be where it's supposed to be… deep under Yellowstone."

Or, she quickly added, muttering to herself, "Yeah… or just… near me."

With a reluctant sigh, she clicked the Accept button.

Mission AcceptedStatus: OngoingDuration: NoneLocation of SCP Appearance: Gotham

"Fuuuck," she whispered, her eyes widening as the reality of the situation hit her.

An eerie silence settled over her as she stood there—completely still, like a statue—processing the words glowing on the screen. Maybe… maybe she'd read it wrong?

Yukri blinked, rubbed her eyes like someone trying to get dust out, then looked again.

Nope. The message was still there. The SCP had appeared in Gotham.

Her jaw twitched, and for a second, she swore she could feel imaginary fangs pressing against her tongue. "Did I just… do this to myself?" she muttered. Sure, she had asked for it to appear near her—but Gotham? That was definitely not what she meant.

"Why Gotham? Of all the goddamn places…"

It was a city famous for chaos, crime, and supervillains. Her carefully crafted plan of wating SCP- 2000 to be summoned to appeared in a safe and quiet place had already been torn to shreds.

"Ohhh, this is just perfect," she muttered in a tone that dripped with exhausted sarcasm, dragging a hand down her face. "What could possibly go wrong? Nothing at all. Just me, this SCP, and freakin' Gotham."

Hmm, nice, she thought with a smirk. The SCP had manifested in an abandoned oil station on the outskirts of Gotham. That was… surprisingly convenient. All she had to do now was get there and find a way inside.

"Huh. If I play this right, there shouldn't be a problem," she murmured, standing from her seat. As she walked out of the café, she casually erased every trace of her presence—camera feeds, receipts, even the café's Wi-Fi logs—all gone with a flicker of digital static.

Shaking her head, Yukri mentally laid out her plan: Step one get to Gotham. Step two don't die. Step three figure out the rest when I get there.
