Chapter 19 - Lucky Cube

« Here we are… Egypt. »

After hours of travel, Ji-Kai's plane finally landed on Egyptian soil.

He stepped out without waiting for anyone to greet him — not that anyone would. He had no one here anyway.

Once outside the airport, he hailed a taxi headed to a very specific location — the Pyramids.

Fortunately, his English was good enough, though he sometimes relied on a translator app since he didn't speak the locals' language.

Because of his appearance, he drew attention almost immediately, which made moving around quite a hassle.

He bought a mask to cover his face, a hat to hide his head and hair .

And as for his clothes…well , there wasn't much he could do about that.

After several hours of taxi rides and asking directions here and there, he finally reached the Egyptian Pyramids — the Pyramids of Giza — the same place mentioned in the clue about Anubis's Dagger.

« Traveling around was exhausting… it felt like an eternity, » Ji-Kai said, shielding his eyes from the sun to get a better view of the pyramids.

« The language of this country is extremely complicated. Thankfully, I've got my translator — otherwise, I'd be completely lost. »

Still, there were people nearby, scattered around the site.

A quick look through social media confirmed what he'd already suspected — Egypt attracted millions of tourists every year, along with other popular destinations.

So, it was easy to tell who was a tourist here.

But I'm different… I'm here for something far more important.

But ... maybe I'll take a few photos~

He pulled out his phone and began snapping pictures.

For a while, he acted like a regular tourist — smiling beside one of the most magnificent landmarks in the world.

He even took a selfie next to the famous Sphinx, and just like that, two hours passed.

« Alright, sightseeing's over. Time to get serious » Ji-Kai said after wasting two hours pretending to be a kid seeing the world for the first time.

By now, the sun was setting.

The area around the pyramids was mostly empty, except for a few guards.

For Ji-Kai, dealing with them wasn't a major problem — he didn't need to search every pyramid one by one anyway.

I already have something that might help me… or so I thought.

[ Item : Luck Item ]

[ Grade : Undefined ]

[ Details : An unclear, mysterious object resembling a small cube. Depending on your luck rate, you may obtain something from it. ]

[ Quantity : 1 / 1 ]

«As I see it, this item isn't something that can be owned in large quantities.»

Still, nothing is guaranteed. That's why I kept it after obtaining it during the Park Yun-Seok rooftop rescue mission.

« And now… » Ji-Kai muttered to himself quietly.

« I'll use it — hoping to get something that could help me here… and maybe later as well. »

[ Do you want to use the 'Luck Item'? ]

«Yes...»

[ Please wait... ]

[ The item will activate in ten minutes ]

[ 09:59 ]

« Ten minutes? I didn't expect that. Maybe it's designed to build tension and anticipation or something, » Ji-Kai murmured softly, careful not to draw anyone's attention.

Since the item would take some time to activate, he decided to do something in the meantime.

« Maybe I'll try sneaking into one of these pyramids. I might find some ancient relic of the Egyptian gods. »

Moving cautiously behind the guards, Ji-Kai's steps were steady and silent as he made his way toward the pyramid's base.

The problem was — he didn't know exactly where the entrance was. He had to find a way in.

« No matter where I look, there's no sign of an entryway… Is this pyramid just for show? Should I try another one? »

He wasn't desperate, but he was clearly annoyed. He had searched every visible side — except for one.

« Where the guards are standing… »

It finally clicked. After examining the pyramid's surroundings for so long .

Ji-Kai realized something: there were no guards around the sides or the back — only in front.

And the place with the most guards… was obviously the entrance.

« I need to find a way in. But how? »

After observing their movements carefully from afar, Ji-Kai counted six guards in total.

Three of them were armed — stationed right by the entrance — while the remaining three patrolled nearby with standard handguns.

« Alright... I have an idea. »

Thirty minutes passed in an unsettling silence. The guards didn't pay it much mind; they were used to the quiet — though some were starting to feel a bit drowsy.

That drowsiness vanished the moment a sudden, sharp boom echoed nearby.

« What was that!? »

« An explosion!? »

« Could it be… terrorists!? »

After a short burst of confused chatter, the sound came again — louder, closer — and then once more, followed by another.

Panic began to ripple among the guards. Suddenly, a sound resembling someone collapsing to the ground echoed out.

« Stop right there! »

Startled and tense, the guards abandoned their positions entirely — which gave Ji-Kai the perfect chance to slip in, whistling casually as he walked past.

The guards rushed toward the direction of the noise... only to find nothing there.

In truth, the "injured man" was just a hidden sound device Ji-Kai had planted earlier, perfectly concealed to buy himself some time.

And, apparently, someone else entered right after him — unnoticed by the distracted guards.

« Nice… didn't expect that to work » Ji-Kai said, brushing off some sand from his shoulder as he walked down a dim stone corridor. He turned on his flashlight.

« To be honest, the interior is quite stunning. Simple, but meticulously crafted. I get now why Egyptians are so proud of this crumbling legacy. »

He traced his fingers along the stone walls, visibly impressed — until a thought hit him.

« Wait… how long has it been since I activated the Luck Item? »

He remembered suddenly. But instead of checking through the system, his curiosity dragged him elsewhere — toward a faint light flickering deep within another passage.

He followed it.

And at the end… he found a dead end.

« Am I some kind of fly? Drawn to lights like they're seducing me? How embarrassing, » he muttered under his breath, careful not to cause an echo.

« Well then, since I'm here, and I've got nothing better to do… let's see what that Luck Item's been up to. »

« System, show me the activated Luck Item. »

[ The Luck Item has been successfully activated ]

[ Upon activation, the item has transformed into the 'Cube of Fortune' ]

[ Cube of Fortune: Press the small golden circle on its surface to determine your random reward ]

« Weird… » Ji-Kai frowned.

« Didn't it already look like a cube before? Why is it transforming into one now? »

A few seconds later, the cube appeared midair — before dropping neatly into Ji-Kai's hands. Reflexively, he caught it.

« Oh… so this is the cube it meant. »

He examined it carefully, spotting the small golden circle mentioned by the system.

Still, he couldn't help but wonder aloud, half in amusement.

« The system said it was a cube before… and now it says it became one? Maybe it means this is its true form — the cube it was meant to be all along. Yeah… that makes sense. »

Without further delay, Ji-Kai took a deep breath — and exhaled slowly, making a silent wish for good fortune.

Then, he pressed the golden circle.

The cube began to tremble in his hands, almost as if it were alive.

After a few seconds, the shaking stopped — and the vivid yellow and violet hues vanished completely, leaving behind a colorless, hollow cube.

« What does that even mean? » Ji-Kai raised an eyebrow, utterly puzzled.

[ Congratulations ]

[ You have obtained: 'Summoning Chance' ]

[ Do you want to use it? ]

« Summoning? What now? Summon what, exactly? There aren't any details? » Ji-Kai muttered, exasperated at the system's vagueness.

After a few moments of silent thought, he sighed, narrowing his eyes slightly. Then, reluctantly, he said:

« Use it… »

[ Processing... ]

[ 'Summoning Chance' has been used ]

[ Please wait while the summon request is being fulfilled... ]

« Oh rig–WAIT—what? Fulfilled? What kind of nonsense—Hold on! Am I summoning a creature!? » Ji-Kai suddenly jumped in place, finally realizing what was happening.

Wait , wait ، wait!!

A summoning? Seriously?

That's insane! I'd only ever heard about this kind of thing in fantasy novels or video games — not real life!.

But as it seemed... that "fantasy" might actually be happening right now.

« I'm not gonna lie... this is making me nervous. »

[ The summon request has been fulfilled! ]

[ Summoning complete ]

[ Analyzing species and type of summoned entity... ]

« I hope it's something useful. A tank-type creature would be ideal » Ji-Kai muttered, half joking, half serious.

Then came the system's final messages—

[ The summoned creature type has been identified ]

[ Manifesting: 'Vampire' ]

Hmm ...

Well...

I'm cooked ...
