President Zafina felt useless, hopeless, like a failure. She was looking down from an airship that showed the burning of her country. Large cities were already razed to the ground, the enemy military had made strongholds in her territory, and her forces, including the Aegis Corps, were losing badly.
"We can't win." It was as if her soul had been stripped out of her body, turning her into a husk who couldn't do anything. Every order she gave out when learning about new information backfired each time, and it got to the point where she stopped relaying orders entirely.
"Madam President, we need to fall back! If you're killed, then the chain of command will be in disarray!"
"It doesn't matter." Zafina slumped in her chair, her voice weak, powerless, and lacking pride. "We're going to die anyway."
Her assistant got upset and grabbed Zafina's suit collar and lifted her up into the air.
