Ava rubbed her face, and grimaced as she looked toward Dr Wilson. He could see right through the young doctor's heart. It was sullen, though he looked cheerful. They had been talking about the Janitor, before Lorenzo walked in, and she wanted to continue.
She needed to know if Anthonio considered Dr Wilson's report, and punished the poor lad, instead of her. Too bad he was the only man close then, when her heart tasted joy from what BlueBird had done to honor Alfred, and her body yearned to express it.
Lorenzo had gone, and no one spoke for a while. In an instant, as if they were in a quest, Ava and Dr Wilson spoke at the same time.
They both smiled heartily.
"You first," Dr Wilson's mouth curved wryly.
"What did Anthonio do to the Janitor. Was he dismissed from work?"
"No! He was promoted instead."
"What?" Ava couldn't believe her ears. She sat up eagerly, straightening herself to listen intently. It was the least she had expected to hear.
