BlueBird needed him.
Whoever had tried to kill him, will want to drown his company. Thing is, he wasn't even sure if the air he breathed was an enemy, because in Baltimore, the breaking news everywhere was, Marcus Thompson was dead. No one except Dr Phyl—and Lyn, knew he still lived.
For Dr Phyl, he had sworn an oath of secrecy, that he would keep his word, not to reveal Marcus' identity to anyone.
"What do l give in exchange for your oath?" Marcus' mouth had curved into a cold smile, unsure if Dr Phyl had spoken frankly.
He remembered how he assessed him through narrowed eyes. He was surprised too, he wasn't offended.
"Marcus, in the past, l would do anything to keep winning, and damn the consequences, but now, l'd choose lasting peace and genuine relationships over a fleeting career.
Marcus had seen he meant every word and was stunned by his attitude.
"What changed, Dr Phyl."
"Stacy left. She resigned shortly after Ava stormed out. I was so selfish not to see that she was being overworked."
"You loved her didn't you?"
"Like you love Ava!" Dr Phyl said cryptically.
Marcus sensed his pain.
"She relocated to NewYork. It pains me to think she may find love soon, cos l really miss her."
Marcus had left immediately after, cos he had a trip to Los Angeles in his private jet.
Lyn had not expected Marcus to show up at her door step on a bright Saturday morning. Thinking it was Stephen—the one she sent to threaten Ava to leave Marcus, she opened the door...
"Ste—phen!" Lyn said, not believing who she saw at the door.
"Who are you?" She asked, her heart racing fast , seeing a man she thought looked like a sculpted Greek god. He looked very handsome .
Marcus scoffed when he saw the look on her face. It was the second time he delighted in seeing her fright.
"Lyn, I'll deal with you the same way and a lot worse than l dealt with Stephen, if you ever think of threatening Ava again." His voice was firm and frank.
Before she could exclaim "Marcus!"
Marcus wasn't done yet.
"Stephen was deported back to Portugal. I understand, you don't have your papers yet, and you've been jailed for drugs, fix your life before l help you do it."
Marcus had walked out, briskly, leaving Lyn staring after him like she had just seen an alien.
Looking out his condo, he loved the view of the island. Whatever made Ava live here, was worth the investment. Tangy island, had the peace and wealth Baltimore was known for, and he loved that Ava lived here.
"The girl's living her dreams huh, from cleaning my room to working for Frodd." He murmured.
Speaking of Frodd, he reached for his cell, and dialled his aide, he wanted an update of what he knew about FroddTech.
"Anything new yet?"
"You won't believe this Boss, he's been trying to get information about you. The dude fired his PA for not finding a clue after his meeting."
Marcus gave a bleak laugh.
"I heard they said l was a ghost."
"Aren't you , Boss, the way you vanished from the hotel, leaving no trace, proves you are."
"About their innovation, any update?"
"Not yet Sir! The only information we have is all he said during his training."
"Stay close Fred. There will be an update soon.
"One more thing, about Ava? You said you saw her bump into Frodd's PA?"
"Yeah!" She was looking for you too. I guess when she left the balcony briefly, and didn't see you when she got back, she went in search for you."
Marcus felt the heat from his body. He knew Ava was curious about knowing who he was, cos he saw her stare at him, outside his hotel suite. He deliberately lodged opposite her room to see she and Alfred were safe.
"She mustn't find out who l am Fred. Never!"
"Copy that Boss."
"And Alfred? How is he?Did you drop my note on his bed?"
"I did and the little boy's smart Boss, but he looked a little unwell."
"Yeah!"He needs a heart transplant quickly. Ava won't ask for help from anyone. She wants to pay his bills— herself."
"Sounds like she's in a contest with someone."
"Me!"
Fred laughed .
"Freeed!"
"Oh!,Sorry Boss!" Fred said frankly. " l just thought to ask if she really knows your networth, cos if she did, she will beg your attention."
"I don't think so Fred. She's already proven it to me, more than once."
"She's already falling for you Sir."
"My looks and intellect, Fred. She doesn't even know she's attracted to those."
Fred read the tone of his Boss' voice and immediately knew he wasn't bluffing. They had talked too long about Marcus' personal life and it was enough. He was a professional and would dare not cross boundaries.
"Time's far spent Sir. They should land in Baltimore this evening. Is there anything else you would like me to note?"
"Keep your eyes on her home tonight. Let's be sure Lyn understood what l told her the last time we met."
"Before you hang up Sir. I just thought to let you know that BlueBird will be having a board meeting to elect a new CEO. Everyone thinks you are dead Sir, and Anthonio had sworn that your legacy must live."
"Who are the board members Fred. I don't remember creating one."
"Your grandfather—Anthonio.Matthew. Lucas and Sonia, your Aunt. I guess they are hold key positions in your company Sir."
"No Fred. Everyone except Matthew, is family. Nothing more. My father made me promise to help them make a living. And l did.
I treat them as l do the rest of my staff.
"You have done well Sir." Fred said, pleased by Marcus' generosity.
"You think so?"
"Hmmmm!"
"Lucas thinks l don't pay him enough to measure the demands of his job."
"Which is?" Lucas asked with an air of gratitude. Having a conversation like this with the wealthiest youngest Billionaire in Tech, made him feel so honored.
"Data-analyst. He heads and oversees every important information about BlueBird's latest innovation. Unfortunately, l noticed he was becoming overly ambitious and really boastful. He told me once, that he would become CEO, soon. It beats me to think if he had anything to do with the accident l had here in Baltimore."
Marcus noticed his conversation with Fred, was becoming lengthy and a bit too personal. He smiled. This was another proof, that the accident changed something in him. His arrogance was becoming allien to his personality.
He was loving the new him, but he made sure he still had an iota of it, to help him when he needed to make a decision.
"When is the election Fred?"
"Tomorrow Sir."
"It's time l meet BlueBird then. We leave tomorrow."
